Window regulators are common malfunctions in these cars. The motor rarely fails, but the regulator cables do. Buy a replacement regulator and replace it yourself!

Thank you for this. Replaced my front passenger window regulator yesterday with what I learned from this video.
Watched your video last night, and swapped out the regulator today. Thank you for saving me time and grief!
Good work. My 4th and final regulator snapped last week! I have to do it one more time. May film properly in 4K this time instead of 1-handed cellphone
@@gregs_garage The passenger side went, and now I'm back 7 or so months later for a refresher. Thanks again!
3 of 4 of mine went and I had to watch my own video to remember each time@@SilvaD702
Excellent video with the process well defined and direct. I was on my way to an old peoples date and noticed the rear window partially down. I had 30 minutes to find a solution as rain was also in the forecast. I had no idea how to get this apart. I found your video and I was able to quickly remove the door panel, raise the window closed, and secure with a pair of Harbor Freight vise grips. The motor operated with a grinding sound, but would not move the window. Since I was able to easily move the window, the regulator motor drive is inoperative. Final diagnosis later. Thank You.
Thanks. You need a regulator. Cable pulled off. You can probably reuse the motor just 3 bolts to swap onto new regulator.
simple, very well explained, and he did it with one hand....MY MAN...!!
🙏 thanks for showing us how those clips work.
Thanks you
Thanks for sharing very helpful
Thank you for the video. It kept me from breaking all the tabs - Those tabs are a great design. First time ever I haven't broken some tabs in a DIY situation. I added a comment earlier but it appears that RUclips removed it. Because I linked to a thread in another site on how to repair your regulator if the motor still works, and the regulator piece slides, and just the plastic bit is broken that holds the metal piece on the cable? I repaired it and can share pictures if needed. Saved almost $200 dollars by repairing the unit and the window is working flawlessly and that area will never break again (fingers crossed).
Regulators without the motor are cheap
Great tutorial - thx!
Thank you so much, you crafty bastard! I just bought a 2005 Deville in perfect condition with the exception of that damned regulator. Because of you I was able to fix it.
you'll eventually do this job 4 times...
@@gregs_garage Well if so, I now know how to fix it.
Thanks, that's how I learned how the white plastic clip works. Nice video talk someone into holding the camera for you, good detail.
yes I did this in a parking lot by myself with $10 in harbor freight tools, a 5-year old phone and built in mic. Normally I use a tripod / GoPro 8 / external mic / etc, but I was traveling!
The white clips are called bird beaks, I worked at GM we assembled those door pads 👍
Bird beaks!
Thank you for this! Window works like it left the factory. Now i just gotta put back together. Oh yeah you have hella skillz to be able to do this one hand while filming this at the same time.
In a parking lot too with $5 harbor freight tools. What I like about these window jobs is each step is doable if you go slow.

Great video !! Thanks
great job. great vid. all with one hand. impressive. Thank you.
thanks. Did in a parking lot. I did the other side at the GM dealer for $400. This way was less than $50.
very good video A+
i think there’s a hole higher up on the left side that allows access to the rear 10mm window clip, but the window has to be up to access it.
Exellent
This watsup thank u
Thx !
I already replace front ( both )
Looks like a bad design
Hi! this might be a silly question but I was wondering if the front door modules are the same for both doors (left and right)? It's just that I need the module for the right front door (passenger) and I can't see on ebay/amazon any specification of which side goes the product. So any comment about it will be helpful.. Thanks!
I'm not sure. I checked RockAuto but couldnt find the module. I'm sure the internet has your answer.
Hey Greg! I’m actually doing kind of the same process in my 2008 dts, I was wondering: is the motor/regulator system the same in both the deville and dts? Could I purchase a regulator and motor with the metal thing for a 2000-2005 deville and be able to put it into my dts?
the pictures look very similar. But they are different part numbers. It may work but there are likely differences. Motors typically are fine. Maybe just replace the regulator and swap the old motor on. cheaper.
Right rear window goes up and down from driver controls but not at the door has power and ground at the plug switch is good even tried new switch still doesn't work at the door. Is it a shot to ground?
not sure how the wiring works at the door but it must be switch wiring related.
If you do this job the white clips have a tendency to break from heat and tension over the years. I’ve searched all over and finally found some that Napa stocks. They sit flush and for perfect. NAPA !
The clips are getting old. There are so many of them it really doesn’t matter
I took the motor out of my back door and moved it to the front and the front window will only go down if I use the back door switch. Any ideas? It is on a 2008 DTS. Thanks
that's a big waste of time taking off 2 door panels. Buy the right motor for the front. They aren't expensive.
i removed the T25s from those square white clips and one of the clips is still being held in place by something! ???
I seem to recall the clips in the middle of the door are tricky. I ended up breaking them yanking the door off. Fortunately there are so many screws and clips holding the door on you don't need them all to keep the panel solid and quiet.
So just wiggle and lift and pull and hope for the best.
Thank goodness! Push in the middle of the white clip! How DID you learn that exactly?
Pried and broke the first one.
@@gregs_garage Yep! Me too! Thank you so much.
Hi thank you for your video, how much is cost for the parts
not much. under $100
Where do you get extra clips that you end up breaking?
I don't know. Probably GM. There were so many clips on this door it went back together fine missing a few. No rattles or anything bad. Just fine.
at least you broke the clips and not the part of the door skin that holds the clip heads like I did. 😢 seems my inner door skin is exceptionally brittle.
I just bought a window regulator+motor and can't get it working I tried replacing the door module with a new one I still hear the click but nothing happens don't know if it could be a bad fuse motor idk lol
do you have 12 volts at the plug when running the switch?
@@gregs_garage yes sir tried the main switch and the switch on the back window still hear a click for both but still no luck just got done checking the fuses nothing seems wrong with that the only other thing I can think is I either bought a bad window motor or maybe wiring problem
put 12 volts to the motor and see if it spins
So my window is stuck down, can I just move the window up and leave it there?
Yes that’s what I did for a while. It may stay up by itself or some tape May help
But he broke the metal bracket that holds the door panel onto the actual door that has a slide up clip
good eye. yes it did break! There are so many clips and screws on this door it is still very solid and does not rattle or move at all.
Mine works but I need to place it on the rubber grippers
Really? Cable broke I bet
I replaced mine and everything worked, but then an hour later the window won’t go down or up and I hear a click noise when I try to put the window down.
Hmmm. Time to take the door panel off. I wonder if your motor burned out or something isn’t aligned.
@@gregs_garage The panels off I didn’t put it back on until the window started working when I replaced the motor and entire mechanism that moves the window. It went down and up just fine now, then all of a sudden it stopped working. I unplugged everything and reinstalled it all again and i hear a click from the module that’s on the black paneling of the door.
