Hmmm.... On behalf of all of us, we are very sorry. I was lucky not to be " too old to remember" , when my children got independent enough to show me my wrongs. I am sorry continually and I apologise and beg for forgiveness and acknowledge my error over and over. I think they need to hear it for years since the bad behaviour was also for years. Not one time sorry and hug and it's supposed to be all done. The damage doesn't fix in a minute. Parenthood is beautiful and terrible. If you'd been hurt, then please we are sorry and wish you everything you need to heal and grow.
You are so right. They forgot. The deny. They flat out lie. My son is now a grown man. And I hear him when he talks. There is no room for denying. There have been a couple times I had to sit quietly and allow him to express his feelings from childhood situations. I don't start making excuses. I don't deny. I just listen. And I apologize. My son and I are very close. He is my only child. And he is excellence. He isn't much for talking and feelings. So if he expresses himself I am quiet and I take it in. I owe him that as his mother.
