- An alternate timeline video in which we'll take a look at 1975 with Robert Plant coming back home SAFELY after his vacation time in Greece, Led Zeppelin's touring the States for a second time and later recording a new album from a place of joy as opposed to survival. This is for Led Zeppelin fans only, put yourself in between the Physical Graffiti and Presence, let your imagination run free and think what if the band continues their concert journey at the height of their popularity. #ledzeppelin #johnpauljones #jimmypage #johnbonham #robertplant #documentary #kashmir

Once again... It's such a great video, thank you.
Idea. YES, documentary of the time period of 1978 to 1980 and Drama album.
I second this. Very underrated time.
So there's a Drama documentary by fellow RUclips Documentarian, channel name: RAEL NYC. But i do wanna make my own version with my deep dive style, i love DRAMA.
I love your work, brother.
Kurt Vonnegut used to say, "Everyone is beautiful when they're doing what they love."
That makes me think of you working on these wonderful videos. 👍👍👍
I love working these, yes! Thank you very much for watching!
That was a very realistic 'what if' projection. I think they would have grown even more popular (and wealthy). I do not know if the movie would have been released for another year or 2, and what form the next album would have taken. I think Presence was made in extreme haste to fill in gaps that would not have been there with no Plant accident, and it would have been released later and in a diificult to guess form. No matter what would have happened, this episode was definitely on point. JCM, you struck again!
Thank you very much for watching! I sense Achilles would have ended on an album one way or the other. There's also the posibility of them splitting in 1977 over TOO much fame and excess you know?
10:41 ... I went to that Super Bowl. Jan 9, 1977. Oakland 32-14 over Minnesota. Favorite team won. Great memories growing up. Tickets cost $20 and you didn't have to take out a home equity loan to afford buying them lol. Those were the days..
Another absolutely incredible "what if", documentary! Thanks from The Gator Bowl in Jacksonville. :).
Glad you enjoyed it!
Deciding not to do a full-on tour in 1979 and instead doing the two gigantic Knebworth dates proved right there that the Zeppelin organization was just too big. It outgrew itself and there weren’t enough hours in the day for Peter Grant. That said, if Robert didn’t have the accident in ‘75 then I say (the realization that I mentioned above) simply would’ve arrived earlier in time. The pure demand for them was unprecedented. What about the dates cancelled in July ‘77, had Karac not passed? These were enormous venues as well. With the golden goose off the road, a lot of money was left on the table and a lot of job positions not filled. Thanks Jose for this interesting insight.
I was at the last American show in Oakland, July 24th, 1977.
I had tickets for Zeppelin in Rich Stadium in Buffalo. Sadly, Karac died and the gig was cancelled.
The one scenario i will not do is the what if Karac didn't pass way. I just don't want to disrespect Robert and his family you know? But yeah, coming up with these is always a great exercise for the fan :)
I wouldn’t expect a video segment on the passing of a child. Ever.
Zep at the Rose Bowl would have been the pinnacle of the rock era.
JMC, I'm hoping for video on the '77 LA series!
yes please🤤❤❤❤
Sounds like a great idea David. Question, would you like to see one full video or separate episodes?
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-StoriesI don’t think each show needs a video but maybe a 2-3 video series would do it justice. you’re the best btw 💪🏻💪🏻
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I think two videos would be great!
Filmore 69, Japan 71, LA 72, March 73, Seattle 3.21.75, MSG and LA 77
Really appreciate the thought and effort you put into these amazing docu-videos. Your research is amazing, Jose. Ernie
My pleasure! Just got a new PC to work on new episodes, lots of stuff i wanna do! Hope you are doing well!
Slept out in a sleeping bag all night for the Tempe show.
Was crushed when it was cxd.
Really interesting take Jose, as usual your evaluation is so sympathetic to the subject matter. For us in the UK we were knew we would probably never see the band again unless they did an open air event. Maybe they would have played Wembley? But Grant was so difficult to work with as Freddie Bannister found out to his cost. Zeppelin in 75 had simply outgrown Europe, the Showco thing was so difficult & expensive to bring to Europe and as you pointed out a mixing desk nightmare. Sound systems at large shows in the UK in the mid 70’s very hit and miss, Reading Rock Festival one of the better ones, but that was to only 30,000. Some shows were so loud i.e The Who is was just a noise, some so quiet you could not make out the vocals. Also you have to remember the climate in Northern Europe, most Festivals still end up a mud bath!!
Thank you so much for your interesting episodes.
Hey Paul, hope you are doing well! Nice to read you again! Wembley is a great theory, i'm guessing the operating costs were tough in post Nixon economics. Their US tour in 1975 was not that profitable with the devaluation of the U.S Dollar. The problem i see with Festivals and Led Zeppelin is the Peter Grant factor as well as the camaraderie backstage, they were just TOO BIG for their own safety you know? Oh yes, the mud bath festivals, for sure. Always a pleasure to analyze your comments filled with wisdom!
The best deep dives on Zepp ! You sir are a true fan !
You know it Jason, thanks so much man!
My immediate thought was -
think about how hot it would have been in those stadiums in August and early Sept. Tempe in August ?!
I wish you HADN'T made me think of that! How miserable!
Thank you so much for this latest Fantamentary (I know, I made it up fantasy/documentary😅) These imaginings are great and so creative. I mean, as LZ fans, we all do it, right? "If only" "What if they'd....." "Imagine if..." I loved the In the Light "live" effects and the alternative Presence track list! I've also wondered what songs they could've attempted if one of others could've been a 'sub vocalist' in the band who could've taken some of the pressure off Robert's vocal chords, but that may be an imagining too far. Is it bad that in this AU, I wanted them to stay at Orange 75 on August 16 so that Bonzo and Ginger Baker could get into an actual punch-up (spoiler alert: Bonzo won- he showed that Baker :))
Fantamentary, maybe sponsored by Fanta? Oh man i would love to see a match between Ginger Baker and Bonzo, pretty sure Baker loses and blames Bonham for being too strong....
Interesting track list for Presence, I'd still have Candy Store Rock though, or perhaps you're saving that for Coda.
Yeah i see that on Coda much more.
Bro your videos just get better and better! Thank you
I appreciate that Rob! Thank You!
I believe that Led Zeppelin did the right thing as far as replacing John Bonham when he died…
They could’ve done many many things, but they did the right thing in my opinion .. and they’ve done the right thing there after they did a couple of tribute type of things didn’t go so well and then they did the concert in 07
That they filmed and put down on record and it was awesome but their old guys now and the music that made them what they are was performed written and recorded by guys that were in their 20s and early 30s 75 years old now that kind of music and deep down no one wants to see great grandfather aged playing music. They wrote when they were 25. I know I don’t and I respect them for not doing a tour. It’s the right thing to do.
Very well said. I agree.
JCM, how about the version of when the levy breaks at Bloomington 1975
Wow, this brings me to tears!
If you haven't heard it, it is a must!!!!
I had tickets to the Aug 24th show at Oakland. Ticket was $10.00 plus a 50 cent BASS (Bay Area Seating Service) charge. Because the show was cancelled, the local FM station KSAN played their entire catalog from A-Z.
Wow that was a nice gesture by KSAN. The 1975 Oakland shows were promising indeed!
The omnipresent and unanswerable question: “what if…” 🤨 I often wonder “what if John hadn't passed away (so maybe I'd have the chance to see Zeppelin live)...this episode left me with even more questions. So many “what ifs…” great job Jose, this is worth as a historical document. Thank you, see you in the next episode!
Thanks Marcia! I have a lot of theories i left out, but yeah, makes you wonder...!
Just catching up on this ....I love these "What ifs?" ....love the fact that they could of filmed the '75 shows to replace the '73 footage nice twist there JCM. These were massive stadiums at the time not sure if thats a good thing or bad thing. I don't think Presence would of existed and even the songs like Achilles Last Stand as it was a pun from the accident and even the lyrics. Its hard to think about what ifs but I like what you did here. cheers JCM
Hey Vance! You're right about Achilles, it was definitely tied to the accident but i think it could have existed musically as Jimmy already had the snippets you know? Maybe a different name for sure. I'm glad you enjoyed this one, it was harder to make than the 80s one because any changes in the timeline have great impact in other realities! I sound like Doc Brown now hahaha!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Yes I know what you mean ….Doc😂.
Another classic! Hey,that stage shot at 12:20....... I know you superimposed some of it but it looks like the original shot was Tull's '76 "Tullavision" stage.
You've got an Eagle Eye :)
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories ✌🏼😁✌🏼
Well said, Jose! I'm disappointed with Presence. They still had incredible musical ideas with Achilles' Last Stand, For Your Life, Nobody's Fault But Mine, and Tea For One. But, there was no need to release another album one year after Physical Grafitti. They earned themselves a break from writing and touring, and I wish they would've taken it. Imagine if they shelved Presence for another year or two? They could've channeled more energy into additional tracks similar to Achilles' Last Stand, Nobody's Fault But Mine, and Tea For One, and they could've finished Swan Song, 10 Ribs & All/Carrot Pod Pod, and Bonzo's Montreux. Presence could've surpassed the creativity of Physical Graffiti if they had more time, which is exactly what Bonzo and Jimmy wanted to do after ITTOD.
I agree Presence could have surpassed Graffiti, but you know what for me it did. From a composition stand point they took more chances. This may sound strange, but trust me, they did. It's harded to play Royal Orleans than Custard Pie.
You've got one hell of an imagination, Jose.
This one was harder to make than the 80s because of the connections to the rest of the story Mike!
Fascinating! Huge venues, even more than’77. And it all could have happened! I think your predictions may be accurate. I like the new Presence track list! PS saw U2 at the Rose Bowl in 2017
@JCM another epic deep dive. My comment is how much the music industry has basically disappeared. There is no musical act today that would warrant this sort of deep dive. The time is ripe for some newcomers to enter the market.
It has dissapeared yes. Whenever i see a "classic rock band" play these 70s anthems at Corporate events i know it's over. :) Thank you very much for watching!
IMO, if Robert had not had the car accident, or the accident was less severe, Jimmy never would have become a heroin addict as he began using heroin during this off time and became addicted around the Presence sessions. The band would have been healthier, stronger, and Jimmy would have been playing at Euro 73' levels consistently with his healed finger.
I understand what you're writing, but I don't know.,.... Addiction is a bitch. He may or may not started using the that garbage. But we'll never know. It's too bad, because Zeppelin is my favorite band and that will always be so.
i agree with you
Kenneth Anger said it was Charlotte that got jimmy addicted to heroin.
Really? That's a new one. For me at least.
It’s hard to know really, but Jimmy was so deep into Crowley at this point, I think it still would have happened. Crowley was a heroin addict and it seems Jimmy was absolutely obsessed with him and living his life style.
Excellent documentary!
Thank you very much for watching!
Whenever I see any interesting architecture or a particular place - be it indoors, such as a shopping mall, or a covered and semi-sheltered spot outside in a park - I fantasize, and think to myself: It would be so cool if Led Zeppelin performed here - opening with ‘The Song Remains The Same’ of course... 🌲🌳🛍🌴🎸🥁🎤🎹🤔
AWESOME
i always thought of Carrot Pod in the same way as Achilles' Last Stand, both inpired by the live solos of '75 of their creators, Carrot Pod being inspired by Jonesy's live piano solos, maybe even playing it during the piano concerto section of the '77 tour, i also believe that Jonesy could manage to play moog synth along his clav for in the light to work, like Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman, playing more than a keyboard at once, amazing video man, it really kickstarted my imagination!!!
My heart breaks whenever your vids end..........😢
More coming up man! Stay tuned
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories 🥰Watching the Tempe vid right now🥰
Awesome video as always
Really well done. Very fun ride. My own take on it would be that had the accident not happened, there would not have been time for Jimmy to get lost in habits. As the quote went in that much-derided book the band hated: "From '73 to '75 Jimmy was in his prime... after that he got kinda smacked out."
One rumor was they wanted to be the first rock band to play in Russia. Peter Grant would have made it happen.
Can' you do a review of the "listen to this Eddie" show?
Wrote this down, and will make it happen!
Thanks J. I wish we had a conversation about alternative timelines
This is a topic that's hard to summarize in 20 minutes Justin, lots of roads this can go to right?
Someone, sometime, probably on Reddit, is going to take this as their actual history. Just wait and see.
The funniest part to me is the continuity problems with the fictional filming of the Pasadena show....that would figure.
Oh man yes thats why i added the disclaimer at the beginning but yeah...maybe i should put a note like For Advanced Zepp scholars hahahah. Thanks fof watching!
Jose & His Magic Crystal Ball-Awesome !
heheh thanks Ian!
Really enjoyable. Sliding door moments for the world's greatest rock band. I do like the alternative track listing for Presence, which for me is sonically too samey and lacks the variety - provided by acoustic guitar and keyboards - of their best work.
It’s true. The end of their acoustic era was heartbreaking, for me. But I now think that the music on Presence is actually really good on its own. My new stereo allows me to hear things I’ve never heard before. I have a new found appreciation for it. Achilles last stand is my favourite LZ song. In my opinion, their pinnacle! Tea for one I think is Jimmy’s best blues solo, and the little Spanish flourish at the end, ending with Bonham’s hi hat and bass drum closure was a beautiful way to end the album. (Just for the record, I don’t think it is more of ‘since I been loving you’ at all. More mature.) I almost think that it would have been a perfect ending to their catalog. I would just love to get rid of Robert on all of the songs, excepting Achilles, then I would really love the album. Robert wasn’t in top form anymore. I would also love to hear just the music for Carouselambra, Fool in the rain and All my love. They are interesting musically, though not with the same emotional impact as what came before. The rest, forget it. With Presence, they had started their downhill slide...
I've got the ultimate "what if" - what if Page never became a heroin addict?
I do wonder what happened with Swan Song. So much work put in but then…
It ended up on the first The Firm album called midnight moonlight. Check it out it’s awesome
It's a shame that the original Led Zeppelin stopped in 1980. And only in 2007 did they give a single reunion concert in the O2 Hall (they were so good there!) instead of going on tour again. Instead, soft pop stars like Ed Sheran, Taylor Swift, Adele, etc. are now filling stadiums around the world in a way that rock bands have never been able to do until today. Not even the Rolling Stones today. Many 70,000 capacity stadiums even on five days in a row... Soft poppers, not rock bands... I don't understand that. It's a strange world today!...
The Presence album is one of my favorite.
No one can blame someone else for doing drugs, that’s a decision you make on your own
The 70s were a complicated and exciting time Keith, not an easy path for these rockstars, or any band really. Thanks for watching!
the occult never dabble in it mr page
🌠I reminded clemy bear about the $..I gave it 2 her on April 25 ...she'll do it I trust her..my friends band played daryl hall's place last nite ..it was good ..I roadie ed...talk later ..gonna watch this video now
Hey men a question, will you ever upload about bonzo's death or will it only be in that little episode in eightvideo?
Thats a good question. Out of respect i think how Episode 7 of The Making of In Though the Outdoor provides the context of 1980 is the most fitting way understand his passing in full. It also makes people realize the importance of their last studio album.
You put a lot together, between the album and something that practically killed the band.
JCM, I hope you are well sir.
Salutations from Belfast Northern Ireland 🇬🇧
Good day from Medford, Oregon USA

1. That Would've Changed Everything! I don't believe that Presence would like It Did! 2. BOO! No Canadian Dates!!
Greetings from Germany 😊😊
Wasn't there rumours that they were going to south america later that year?
Check my Post Led Zeppelin 1990s series episode on Page Plant South America. Here i talk about Zeppelin's plans for South America and the Brazil connection :) ruclips.net/video/5d5ue9bkSPo/видео.html
"peter grant wanted to kill the film crew" 10000%
I have seen the latest video to the song trambeld under foot from led Zeppelin physical graffiti Lp the video you can see is made for the 70 s in the US girls comeing into the kitchen boogie on dancing around the flat to the song .Its Great perfect genius.
Odd... My vinyl and Cd of "Presence" has a completely different track list... River Home ... what is that? Where is Royal Orleans??? Ditto Candy Store Rock... Swan Song, not on mine... OR AM I LOOKING AT SOMTHING DIFFERENT??? Or is it all in the theme of alternate timeline?
Are you serious? lol. The whole thing is pretend, including the track listing of Presence and the imaginary “what if” tour.
Great stuff, but you’ve got the wrong model Rover…❤
That Rover was just a reference :) i love those cars and design.
Online there’s photos of Plant with the classic Range Rover. He has however a customised P6 ‘rover’ which was repainted black with wolf logos from 80’s album Now & Zen..go find it!
Move over Rover and let JCM take over 🎸
The what if’s.. that may have or could have happened way back in history it’s fun to think about
None of that stuff is ever gonna be true though it’s always gonna be a wish or a dream …
What if they immediately replaced John Bonham with Cozy Powell what would have turned out like? … I always wondered because I’m a big cozy fan.
What if they got somebody else like Neil Peart or Aldridge?.. or Jeff or Steve or Vinnie??? you could spend the rest of your life thinking about that stuff
Yes!!! Gates of Babylon. Rainbow. One of the two finest Bonham style masterpieces. I have always wondered how they would have got on. (The other, I’ll wait, Van Halen) Seriously, no one else has come close to capturing Bonham so well!
I know Cozy had the skills but I don't think he had the mental stability to handle such a high pressure job. He would have perished in some fiery crash on the highway trying to play chicken with an 18 wheeler, or fallen to his doom trying to do a parkour jump between two skyscrapers in the dark at night. Even Ritchie feared him at times which is REALLY saying something. Cozy was Bam Margera trapped in a British man's body.
Have you heard about the upcoming release of the 'Becoming Led Zeppelin' documentary?
Yes and like all of us, we're waiting on it's release, hopefully it will see the light of day :)
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories it was just purchased for release by Sony Pictures.
This is Fantastic. Lets cross our fingers it was done by Zepp fans on the Production side of things :)
Could have been 77 plant with 75 zep. Would have been epic
Don't ever give the wifey the car keys to drive because it could be very hazardous to one's health. I wonder if this will ruffle some feathers LOL and if Plant learned his lesson... "Maureen Plant was driving skidded and spun off the road, nose-diving over a precipice and into a tree. When Robert had landed on top of Maureen, the impact shattered his right ankle and elbow and snapped several bones in his right leg."
What’s the point of what if??
The point is the dot on the "i" :) Thanks for watching.
They simply got too big, something had to give :/
Yeah. And Meat Loaf/Jim Steinman were just waiting to release Bat out of Hell and take part of the album record sales market :( . Thanks for watching Fred!
10 Ribs & All/Carrot Pod Pod (Pod)
Yeah. That's, uhm... That's a reasonable, sane title.
More heroin, anyone? Some LSD?
Honestly? More 1975 mediocre shows and Page heroin addictions and lousy playing continue. After Zeppelin left the MSG stage in July 1973, they were finished.
Zeppelin sounds awesome in 77,79,&80.
That’s a little harsh and unfair, but I understand what you are saying. Those finally 73 MSG gigs is the end of their high point… but there are definitely some exciting gigs from 75-80….but nothing that is as tight or as slick as 69-73,their glory touring years.
Lay off the crack pipe.
If Page layed off the crack pipe, we'd have better shows 75-80.
You do know what they say about opinions right? I totally get what you’re saying though.. I saw Jimmy page at the arms benefit concert three nights in a row. He was the worst guitarist out of the three. Clapton was Well Clapton. Jeff Beck was on fire and Jimmy was pale and sickly looking. Heroin is a hell of a drug.
