    % needs to be account bound then, because most glads have alts that take 5 places

    I quit in WoW January 2024. I was only playing to get 2100 in arenas for the pvp weapon illusion. I was lucky enough to get the DF S2 pvp illusion. When S3 came around, i queued every day for months 2s with a friend and got 2k, at that rating we kept facing multi rank 1s and after couple weeks of not achieving 2100 i quit. Fighting Petkick and Challengerz at 2200 mmr while i'm 2k cr and they are at 2350 cr makes no sense. I was just a casual player try to get a simple achievement and could not even achieve it. Made me feel terrible about myself, and don't even get me started on playing solo shuffle as a healer. -- Glad I quit and will not be coming back to PvP until they make the pvp CR achievements percentil based again or some kind of other big overhaul like you mentioned.

      People forget that gladiator on static achievments was around 2800 CR. Achievments were never so easy to obtain like it was in Shadowlands or Dragonflight.

    They don’t need to cater to the top .01%. Meaningful goals and realistic goals should be achieve able by other players as well. The AWC has rewards for those on a different level. I’m not saying I fully disagree with you actually about % based rewards but they need to keep the carrot for casual players which vastly outnumber the high skilled players. Especially if rated pvp thinks to stay alive.

      % based should 100% return, fixed so many issues that Palumor stated well. Also agree with you the % should be upped a bit from what it previously was for the health of pvp.

      You're basically saying that an achievement designed to reward the bests should be given to the casuals as well ? That makes no sense though... I mean you wont expect to be given gold medal at (pick a sport) if you arrived 11th right ?

      Elite should be 50 wins over 2.4 or just simply 2.4 like it is now. Making gladiator a participation trophy was the worst possible thing they could do

      We had one turbo inflated season where like 5k people got it.
      Have you ever looked at the top 100? It’s 30 people on alts

    As someone who plays in the 1800-2200 CR range, at 1900-2200 MMR, by far the worst aspect of rated pvp (and it isn't even close for me) is players playing the game 1,000 rating below their peak. I did 50 games yesterday at 2100 in 2s and every single game bar about 4 were against players running at me on gladiator drakes, and they weren't the obvious freelo boosted $100 SL S2 drakes, they were actual current expansion gladiator drakes or from legion or wod or cosmic or whatever.
    I don't care if one spec is op, i don't care if one spec is bad, i don't care if theres an annoying trinket, i don't care if the meta is slow or fast. I just want to play against people who have within 500 rating of my peak rating and I want that to happen 90% of games after the first 10 placement games. Every other game nails this. If you're gold 5 in League you don't randomly get a game against Faker. In WoW, you do. 25 or so games into a session yesterday I meet Hayne (3x gladiator, multi legend, 2700+ player) at 2k MMR in 2s playing with a gladiator priest. Why? It makes no sense and it isn't fun and it isn't fair.
    Likewise, I too do this to worse players than me. I am a 2400 peak player, I play at 2200 MMR every season, more or less. Despite this, I regularly queue into people who have their gear unmogged, who run at me without mounting, who don't go invis at the start of a rogue mage game, who will never trap as hunter and who will never shift form as druid to deny a hex. I crush these people in 45 seconds flat and then I am the bad guy now. I am gifted a free win for no reason whatsoever and I know for a fact I just ruined those players' days. They stood no chance at all. They should be at 1400-1600 MMR, instead they're playing me at 2200 MMR and the game before they probably played a gladiator.
    This is, for me, what has killed rated pvp. In ye olden days the way around this was moving to the easy battlegroup. If you weren't very good, you moved. Now, the whole region is a battlegroup and because MMR just seems to not work at all half the time, you are extremely likely to play into the players who play the most games, are always gladiators and always playing meta. I understand that the game sucks for these players when they sit a queue for 50 minutes after marooning themselves at high MMR, but thats the price of being good and I'm more worried about the majority, not the minority of good players. I play Overwatch at 4400 rating. My queues are often 30 minutes long. It sucks, but i'd rather it be that way than I ruin games and farm noobs all day at 3k rating and I wish WoW's MMR and rating systems were the same as OWs, because nothing kills a session faster than queueing into Jazgg into Hayne into Drainerx on your holy paladin alt that you just dinged at 1900 MMR. It unironically makes me stop queueing for weeks its that boring and unfun.

      I played 2s with my buddy. It's all that is fun for us. We don't like 3s. And we had the same thing happen. Current xpac Glad on alt. We were like...1200 or so? Believe this was shadow lands or something. Anyways, we actually won cause we ganked their partner but omg it was hard. Noobs should not have to fight glads even if they are alts.

    This is a great video. I think if you just start rewards in X week, so maybe week 3 or 4 is the first rewards week, then weekly after that until end of season.

    Pvp rewards should be obtainable without Qing into AWC teams. All rewards should be obtainable on pick up games/lfg, but still be fairly difficult for the highest tier rewards.

    hi palumor. first of all thank you for all your videos. they are always very well explained. I wanted to ask a "difficult" question. according to your experience in all these years of rogue...
    (I ask you this question because with the expansion I will start using rogue).
    What was, what is right now and what will be the best spec for dueling, 1 vs1, gank?? and if you want even the funniest. This would help me focus on one spec and learn it well for now and the future.

    I think that if there was different ratings to reach glad and if it was a "moving goal" it would be less enjoyable. I know as a player who currently sits between 1800 and 2200, I am so focused on that number "2400" and it motivates me, however if that was to constantly change, it would be more confusing and less fun. I do agree however that there needs to be some consistency in the skill level/ratings.
    I think if it was possible to keep the same rating jumps and just programme it in a way that, like you said, have a percentage of people with 2400 and above and if someone else jumps up, someone gets pushed out

    Yes! The only problem with percentage-based was not knowing if you were high enough rank before season end, but they should easily be able to keep a tracker for that ingame, seeing as they already do that for the 2400+. It would also kill the elitist "Glad is ez/free"-comments, since there wouldn't be any debate about what percentage reaches it.

    I got my first 2k in season 2 of shadowlands. Got my second 2k season 2 of DF. Getting the one in SL pushed me to improve to get it in DF

    The problem I think with static percentile based achievements is you will get people who have 3 and 4 alts sitting on the ladder 2 of which they just leave at the top of the ladder and dont even Q with anymore clogging up the ability for anyone else to move up.

      Ideally ladder snapshotting would account for alts the same way rank 1 alts do in cutoff range, but yeah you're correct.

    i got every arena achivement, arenamaster, multiple glad mounts, played every single class to 2100+ in shadowlands, but i am missing 2700. i would need to almost reach rank 1 to reach that atm, so i am not participating. you are absolutely right, the current system deters players like me from even trying it.
    i will try again with the next addon season 1, but the system needs a big change.

    You could just merge the current and old system, so if you were in the top 1% at the end of an under-inflated season but the top 1% was only 2200, then you'd get your glad reward after it ends, on top of what we already have today.

      Exactly, the scale should be based on a percentage of the CURRENT playerbase. So the top 1% are glads, too maybe 5% should be duelist and too 15% rival

    I agree! :) rating system needs that overhaul badly.
    Also ppl asked for soloque. Not solo suffle so make it one round and que again.
    I dont get it why they have to overengineer everything at blizard.

      You are correct, this would help with queue times, but the problem would then lie with RNG, some people would get unlucky with getting bad/inexperienced team mates, which is then frustrating for a lot of people. Not sure whats the best out of both.

      @@crizzleyo815 lets say 2 healers que for solosuffle, they play it out 6 rounds so 4 dps gets to play.
      Same 2 healers que for 6 times soloque and 24 dps gets to play.
      So it would cut the que time quite a bit and it would fix healer cr problems.

      @@MrRedrud it would cut the que time a bit but i get to play 1 game instead of 6. also those 2 healers dont play with 24 dps at the same time. so i think the que time actually stays the same. 30 minutes for 6 games or 5 minutes for 1 game. and the game would be complete rng because u dont even get to play with everyone. what if you get the guy with the same mmr in full greens doing his placement games? sadly some flaws in your theory

    your Idea of checking % of the Ladder multiple times during a season makes sense to me, but i would prefer it if they skip the first two weeks of a new season so that it makes somewhat sense. In the first two weeks there are too many random variables like people not having gear, not having qd at all and so on. Other than that i agree.

    It should all be % based like you said but the rewards/titles need a rework as well so normal players feel incentive to push into a new tier. Like brand new titles unaffiliated with the old ones at

    Honestly the top .01 is ridiculous. Just for AWC players? Why? Just give them an Official AWC Title for Qualifying for AWC.

    I realy like pvp, but the fact that the rewards is so hard to get i kinda lose the will to play. If i could see myself reaching glad and maybe geting the mount i would play way more. But im old now, and cant keep up :(

    Static rating for 1800,2100,2400 ect aren’t bad. As long as the actual cr calculating method is simple and consistent from season to season, where ratings aren’t set back every season.

      Look at rocket league, simple calculations and simple formula. Never reset ratings to 0 and have a simple win you up lose you go down algorithm. The more simple the better it lets the natural process settle things into where they belong. If one season has a lot less participation it wouldn’t impact anything so long as the core simple algorithm stayed unchanged.

    The static based is much better for casuals. The only issue is why isn't artificial inflation larger when population is small?
    Why did SL S2 have so much inflation when the population was healthy?
    Why did DF have no inflation when Solo Shuffle ate the population?

    I came back to wow pvp because of solo shuffle, it was an amazing idea!
    I quit because of the 6 rounds system, that takes way to long to find a game (as a dps).
    I'll come back to pvp in TWW because of solo rbgs.
    If the queues are 1h long I'll prob quit again..
    Anynway, if they make solo shuffles 1 round or max 3 rounds it would fix queues times 100%.

      The number of rounds won't fix anything IMO. The number of healers will.
      p.s. On solo BG, the healer problem will be less real. But there is a need for way more people so on high mmrs queues will be also huge (

    I agree percentage bases rewards make more sense, but you didn’t touch on the fact a lot of these top players have 4-5 alts on the ladder, making it artificially harder to get percentage based rewards. That is a problem.

    Yes and amen. They need to make all rewards % based. Even in classic iterations they have some CR based rewards (gear rating locked/tabard) so inflation still is a problem with those rewards. I played first season of wrath classic and hit Rival and made it in the higher echelon of the rival cutoff. But that wasn’t anywhere near the glad tabard rating req of 2300. Next season my partner doesn’t play, so I don’t play. And rating got mega inflated and rivals were now 2300 and getting glad tabard. And I missed it. And my friend never played again and I just stopped playing wrath all together. Still so sad I didn’t get a glad tabard in wrath. They’re so beautiful 😭 so make everything % based. Like actually everything.

    We need to make PVP more accessible to a wider audience, not just elitists. It's time to incentivize more rewards, like glad mounts, to make them more accessible.

      How about instead of giving gladiator mounts to 1600 rated players, we just give each bracket a mount that gets cooler the higher rank you are. Why would you give everyone a glad mount?

      if you give everyone glad mount it will not be special as used to be. Still %0.05 glad mounts are more prestigious than 2400 glad mounts. Because it was hard to get. If someone gets glad mount at 1.8k why would he play more ? to get r1 ? no because he cant. He basically quits. None would use glad mounts except 2k andies.

    their a real problem with the r1 title too its always the same people and r1 player have 3-7 alt of the same class and some are playing in EU + US so imagine every r1 taking 2-5 place to the r1 leader board, so new glad have very very low chance to get it

    Love your videos bro but this math illiterate. The current MMR system fits the players skill to a log-normal distribution. 1500 (modulo any inflation Blizzard adds) is equivalent to 50%-tile. You can check Drustvar for data that confirms this. their standard deviation comes out to roughly 150CR so 1600CR is 40%-tile. I believe their goal was for 99%-tile to be 2400 which means that if you had 100k players participating then top 1000 would be 2400+.
    In an ELO system that I describe above the top 0.1%'s CR/MMR is proportional to the square root of the number of participants. So the very top rated player in 100k player system will have 2x the MMR of top player in a 25k player system (and to some extent sensitive to the activity at the top of the ladder).
    ANY long term solution to this requires getting more people to play this game (and as content creator that should be your goal too). They need to make PvP interesting and rewarding for the people between 25%-tile and 75%-tile. Use an M+ or Plunderstorm style system which has a mixture of reward you can grind and 1% and 0.1% rewards.

      Shouldn't they have the Combat rating reset as players achieve a higher bracket rank. So players who want and work for the elite rewards can do so in a different way?
      Bronze/Combatant - 1k to 2k
      Silver/30% - 1k to 2k
      Gold/10% - 1k to 2k
      Diamond/Top 1% - 1k to 2k
      And Chrysanthemumimim/Top .01% - 1k to 2k
      If the focus was on creating more skill based mechanics that players can master and better environments that are fun to play within the PvP mode you wouldn't need to worry so much about inflating the rating so that players can get better gear.
      Why does gear impact performance anyway? I enjoy the combat in Arena and Plunderstorm. I never understood the fortnite type rewards system until I played Plunderstorm.
      I hope they intend rework the entire combat system with a combination of Arena, Plunderstorm and Project Ascension

    you can't do this in practice unfortunately, it would be too confusing for even non jimmys, how they have X Y Z achie on X Y Z rating when this dude is lower/higher than me and does/doesnt have it
    the best system is what they have right now, WITH THE BIG CAVEAT, of bi weekly or even monthly mmr adjusting by someone manually at blizzard, but they obviously dont give a single damn fuck for what feels like forever now so it won't and will never ever happen

    Edit, I actually really like your solution. Perhaps they should make it that you need to hit the "cut-off" for a certain rating during 3-4 weeks (not necessarily in a row) of a season to stop people from just getting an "easy" week of glad or whatever.

    Your idea is great, except you forgot one thing.... That would require blizzard to actually keep up constantly with pvp instead of focusing more time on what they care most about which is the pve community. People like to beat npcs and feel great about themselves and avoid pvp competition so why not appease the money maker...

    % is not fair or consistent at all, your literally still reliant on player activity your still reliant on your spec viability (which increases activity) which increases slots/decreases slots respectively. top .1% of players can vary from 10-1000 depending on total players counts and yet your actual skill could have gone up but if less people play even less people get the rewards which has nothing to do with player skill and is once against controlled by outside factors. If you get rank one and your the 5th best mage in the world and next season the playerbase gets cut by 30% because some busted ass spec ruins the season you could very well not be in the 0.1% of players anymore even if your skill lvl respectively has not gone up or down. The static rewards give people incentive to grind all season instead of only caring about their placement last week of season. A much better solution would simply be having more rewards spread out across the tiers instead of trying to pick some magic number that doesn't feel like an insurmountable wall. Going from 2200-2400 is alot less daunting for players then saying "just go from top 30% to top 5%, the rewards need to be obtainable or at least seem obtainable, or people who aren't at the top will feel like its not worth the time to even try and reach the top reducing participation making those % rewards even less obtainable and thus reducing participation again and it will snowball.

    I think there’s more going on under the hood than people give blizz credit for. You literally mention in your video there will likely be between 2-3k players above 2400 by end of season. Why does that number pop in your head? Because Blizz has CONSISTENTLY landed that number of players above the glad cutoff from season to season (with the exception of the obvious outliers where there were way more). Converting back to a % based system with a fixed % will mean there are 800 glads in one season and 2500 in another. Then “Jimmy” gets glad this season and falls short the next season simply due to participation. That is more inconsistent than the system you are proposing to “fix”. At least right now, players are aware of the fact that being in the top 2-4k players will give them the opportunity to hit glad. Way more consistent than % system. % based is a thing of the past and will not/should not return. Having static cutoffs with blizz’s finger on the inflation button is the only way to ensure a certain number of players achieve those ratings from season to season.

    Yes and no. Yes on system. Hard no on percentages. Rank 1 = 0.1% (for the no life-sweatlords), glad 10%, duelist 20%, rival 30% & challenger 40 maybe even 50%.
    You want (more new) people to actually play pvp or not? Make em feel like they actually achieve something. Being hardstuck '1200' is what makes people quit... What does it even mean, when you think about it...? Better players will always be in higher brackets no matter where you draw the lines. Keep people incentivized to actually play pvp and get some new influx and not let the 'mini-game' (as how blizz sees pvp currently) die-off completely...? And you no life-sweatlords can still push for R1. win-win right?

      Totally agree.i”m 35 now, and dabble with wow pvp every exp 2-3months than quit.
      I never lost my reflexes, maybe 5-10% over the years but i”m smarter now and chill.
      Tbc,wotlk, cata i was a player between 2k-2.4k. Depending on friends and my main tier list.
      Last time i was close to 2k was in shadowlands.
      DF i dream about 1.8k as healer in solo shuffe

      I’m only a turbo inflated SL s2 glad but noooooooo I don’t think you understand how easy it is to hit top 10% in a video game. Most gamers just suck. I could hop on any PvP game and be top 10% in 2 weeks.

    Take your idea and instead of showing ratings, show the title. Make 3 sub tiers like challenger 1,2,3 so you could see how close you are to the next title bump.

    I tell you something PVP being bad has nothing to do with Solo Shuffle not finding Mates bad Players MMR balblablaaaaa!!! It has fundamentaly to do with the Class Designe and Gameplay overall.. Im a 15 Year long Arena,PVP Player i cant stand Retails Rotations, the feeling i have by pressing a Button.. Give zero Dopamine Hits when you hit a Target i went back to Wotlk in Season 6 or 7, i play till this Day moving into Cataclysm happily.. My Main Retail Account is on Ice since Legion pretty much, dont regret it.. I closed the Chapter of crying about Retail and moved on because i know Blizzard will not bring a Game Designe like Wotlk,Cata or Mop.. I think there not good enaugh Coders, Programmers or what ever you call that to build back a Game like that.. But you want PVP, Retail WoW to work again change it to that Playstyle and Class Designe of those Prime Expensions Wotlk,Cata,Mop done..

So previous season lets say 2600 ,2700 mmr starting the new season this Elite or whatever will be a joke even if you are way lower mmr still a joke , i can see what you trying to say but not true no matter start or end of the season its 50/50 the only thing that is factor is if blizz put mmr cap or not on fresh season. Season 3 DF for example few things made it shit season, first they made 2200 mmr cap , after that broken specs like half brain DHS , healer cr and mmr problem continued also, but most of the people just give up on that first thing the 2200 mmr cap and they was right everybody was fighting multi glads and rank1

    The reason pvp isn't going to get fixed, is because rewards aren't attainable by 90% of the WoW population. Figure out how many players get 1800/Rival and then you'll realize why the lack of participation is negatively affecting the elite players. This is a bottom up issue not a top down issue.

    You can’t stop paid carries / bots / cheaters. Shadowlands for the casual player was impossible to get 1800 cause it was all glads and R1’s doing carries.dragonflight was bots scripts and cheaters

    A massive problem is OTHER players base your skill and desire to play with you based on these numbers. I have yet to get a glad during this new system, but when I got glad pre static rating I needed around 2700 at end of season to get it. % based systems also encourage participation in the ladder because right now you can get your desired rating and are not required to play anymore. I also think a huge problem is the ease of gearing. SL system wasn't great with incremental upgrades at each rating threshold, but it also encouraged PVP participation as a whole. Once you got to a new rating you needed to farm honor to upgrade your conquest gear.
    Another HUGE problem with CR like it is currently is that it breeds toxicity, especially in solo shuffle. It is incredibly demoralizing to not be able to get to ratings you got last season or the season before.
    The static rating system also enables boosters and other methods of "cheating" which is very bad for the overall wow landscape.
    It's also really really important to note that the PVP rating changes happened in BFA and it was players overwhelming wanting it changed to a system that was more easily attainable, same with gearing.

    This is clearllly not a fix and your taking in the wrong account of many different factorss!!!! You said jimmy got 2000 cr one season but 1600cr other season well Yeah what about if his class getting nerfed. Some season I get high cr when my class is good but other seasons my class is bad so that has a HUGE impact in my cr. You need to talk about other factors. Also no one cares about PvP since wow is dying and everyone’s quitting
