As much as I ‘d like to install it, doing music production I have to wait for the DAWs and other software I use to update so my work flow isn’t disrupted.
zollotech I believe Tony is talking about compatibility with music production software like Logic, Ableton and Pro Tools. These DAWs have to be updated to support macOS Catalina before Tony can update
I would wait to update. Apple ios 13 and watch os 6 were buggy. I’m still experiencing bugs on my iOS 13 reminders apps. I rely on reminders for work related stuff. So for you I wouldn’t update if I rely on my Mac for work.
@@zollotech Voice Control works well after learning the commands to navigate. I see this option being a huge help for those with disabilities affecting their motor skills. I used voice control in conjunction with voiceover and while it does work I don't think it's really suited for those of us who are blind. It can make it easier to open an application but once inside I have to completely rely on voiceover to navigate. Still, I am always happy to see Apple adding options for those who need assistive tools to make technology accessible for every person. Thanks for your video. I wasn't even aware there was an update until I came across your video.
This feature has (and a bunch of others have) been around since before Catalina. For example, I'm pretty sure Voice Control has been around for a few versions now (a more primitive form of it has been around since 5-10 major versions back); it's certainly on my Mojave machine, under Accessibility -> Dictation -> Dictation Commands. The QuickTime Player info panel has been around for several versions now. I didn't watch the full video, but these were just a few that stuck out to me.
This is one of the most professional videos I've ever seen. Thank you very much for taking the time to create this tutorial on the new IOS for Apple. It's a huge help to those of us who aren't wizards at this. This is very much appreciated.
Really down to earth, speaking normally in human language... Very helpful. You have a gift for explaining things, without being judgemental or pretend that you know it all. Thank you!
Remember, Outlook for MAc and Iphoto will be inaccessable once installed. The warning prior to update says "will not be optomized for". The reality is "will no longer open or work in any way".
I started reading through the comments and nobody seems to have a problem with this. I don't think this should classify as an OS version update - so they changed iTunes to be a few apps instead. Sarcastic 'wow'. Adding it all to iTunes in the first place was a bit of a mistake anyway (there's a video all about that somewhere) but besides the point for me. Is there anything else? I read something about a watch, and nearly every other sentence is mentioning iPhone. The Mac is just a base hub for your mobile devices now is it? I've been using Apple macs for 20 years and apart from keeping up with technology, I don't think they're improving and in some cases even getting worse. Missions Control is so unintuitive compared to spaces, and it drives me crazy that they don't just bring it back. I lost trust in Apple a long time ago and I wish they just sorted themselves out. It's all so underwhelming to me. Anyway, great video by zullotech. I just wish there was more to the update itunes > music. wow.
Tech reviewer‘s have been complaining about iTunes for years as overbloated software that it was slow and based on old code. They simplified it to what iOS is doing. As far as spaces goes, I’ve actually never used it because I never found it useful, however I do like Mission control and awful lot, but you should be able to do either or since both can be very useful depending on how you use your device. While I do use the Mac every day for video editing, I understand where you’re coming from and I agree there is much more focus on making the Mac like a mobile device it seems
At first I thought this is only a worthy update if you patronise Apple services and mobile devices. But this comprehensive video proved me wrong. This is an excellent walkthrough of the new features.
Colin Steinberg It might require watchOS 6. Can’t confirm, though, because I already updated my apple watch to watchOS 6 while we waited for the macOS update.
Debbie Bridygham I think I will like it too. I already use the apple watch to unlock the mac, further authentication with it looks like a good feature.
I missed iTunes. It has been around since 2001 until this year. And now, they split into three different apps are Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV. Those are three separate apps.
I regret having upgraded to Catalina at this stage. The OS is full of bugs and has proven to be a giant time waster. My iMac shuts down every few hours, particularly when it is left unattended. Sometimes the Blue tooth function is turned of at the same time, so that I cannot use my mouse and magic keyboard. And those are just the most annoying surprises that Catalina holds for its users. There are plenty more. This is just beta-software and should never have been released to the wider public. Of all the OS upgrades I have had since I bought my iMac late 2015, this is the worst. I had Windows before I switched to Mac 4 years ago. Windows was no party, but I cannot remember such a bad experience back then. Why don't you do a video about Catalina's flaws. There are quite a few!
thanks for your comment! Really on edge about upgrading but Apple brilliantly made catalina a requirement to be able to develop with the newest XCode..
I was also concerned about this... But playlists and view options, etc. stay the same. It does take a while to load all your songs back into iCloud though...
Not entirely, if you are used to play/pause/skip functions in iTunes via the media buttons F7-9, you lose that nice and convenient functionality from iTunes.
My Mac OS 10.15 Catalina update came in at 8.09 GB for my 2019 Mac Book Pro 15". You said your update was 4.89 GB. Were you updating from a beta version?
He probably was. My mid-2013 mac is running mojave 10.14.6 and the update to Catalina comes in at exactly the same size, 8.09 GB, as it did for your 2019 macbook pro. Will download it later on.
Was just wondering how he missed that fact. Tons of applications and tools along with half of the games on Steam was deprecated with this release. Now that I would call a big shift. Finally splitting iTunes into individual apps, not such a big deal. Also messed up a lot of self-signed SSL certificates along with corporate VPN solutions and access to older file servers.

What do you think of macOS Catalina and are you installing it right away? Thanks so much watching! Time codes are in the description so you can jump to the section you would like to see most.
Its works great but im disappointed that sidecar not working on my MacBook Air 2017 I was so happy when I saw the feature but I can not find it on my Mac in settings or in my airplay bar with my 3rd generation iPad Air. maybe the don't support it for older Macs :(
I installed Catalina last night and haven't had a chance to play with it much yet, but my first impressions are quite favorable. One thing I noticed this morning though is that the 3 or 4 desktop icons I had have disappeared. The documents themselves seem to be in Finder but why should the desktop icons disappear?
CatalinaOS is Apples’s version of Windows ME. Give me High Sierra or give me a different OS altogether. Catalina has been largely panned by the community and rightfully so. Pro tip: watch his battery drain during this video. That’s the very least of the issues with Catalina, but it is one nonetheless.

Not so much. On older macs, that will still be the only option since we won’t be getting sidecar. As usual, apple reserves the best features only to those who shell out the big bucks.
Just found out that Sidecar is only supported by Macs with Skylake processors (2016 or later Macs). So my late 2013 iMac would still run Catalina but no Sidecar (major bummer!). 😣😫
Flaming Mantis no, I mean 2017 iPad (not pro) just 9.7" 2017 iPad. Its not supported... I guess its because this iPad and older dont support pencil. I dont care about pencil support on sidecar. I was just happy for additional screen with such easy connect.
My catalina install on my 2012 macbook pro was 8 gigs. It failed the first time but after a restart it succeeded. Its a bit slower even with my SSD upgrade I did last year.
Yeah, I've been using it for the last couple of hours. So let down. Still slow as crap and nothing really changed in my world as I don't own other apple stuff. Just a lot of data waisted as with most of Apple updates. Same ol' story. Paid way to much for a computer that has 1/4 the functions of Windows. Why did I get an apple you ask< Because of longgevity. Pc's are built for a year. But I'll tell you, 2018 Macbook air doesn't hold a candle to my 2014. So sloooooowww. MR. Jobs!!!! Come back. They've f'd up Apple!!!
Great video, thanks, unfortunately 32 bit software is no more supported. I use Adobe Master collection CS6 and a few other which I do not want to miss, is there a workaround?
Michael Hidalgo Quick question: did the default macOS Catalina wallpaper finally become fully dynamic? in the betas it only had two images, one for light mode and one for dark mode, instead of the 16 required for it to change according to the time of the day.
Can you please explain how to mirror ipad screen with the Mac and record the voice over simultaneously as I sketch and explain things with my apple pencil.
Apple have just lost the plot. I need my Mac to do work not fiddle around with music, podcasts etc. Locking things to 64bit has just made this a loosing update.

Flaming Mantis i have same problem but with ipad 5th gen. God ! I was so happy for this.
@@Krys519 Do you mean the iPad Mini (9x6) which is 5th gen? It should support it.
I don’t like how my Mojave dynamic wallpapers are gone.
I realized they're still there but I don't appreciate them being changed for me.
Currently running macOS Catalina on MacbookPro 15" late 2011. Thanks dosdude1
