    Thank you for this informative presentation on Northwestern's "temporary" football stadium. I have a few corrections for you. Martin Stadium is Northwestern's Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium. It already exists and will continue to exist. It is NOT a "practice" field. Northwestern will force their soccer and lacrosse teams to share the Stadium with the football team for the next 2 years. The seats on the West side of the Stadium are permanent soccer and lacrosse seats that the football team will now also use. The lights in the pictures on the East side of the stadium are the Stadium's lights that have been used for soccer games. They are NOT "practice" lights. They cannot build anything more on the West side of the Stadium, without destroying their Field Hockey Stadium. Thus, they are forced to put a few rows of temporary bleacher seats on the East side of the stadium and major temporary stands on the North and South sides of the stadium. The stands on the South side of the stadium will be built on the old practice football field which will not be used for those 2 years. Thus, the soccer and lacrosse teams will continue to play all home games at their stadium, but will be forced to allow the football team to use their stadium on 5 Saturdays this year, and perhaps as many as 5 Saturdays in 2025.
    With regard to TV, I don't know and frankly don't care. As far as I'm concerned that's TV's problems and we already give far to much deference to them already.

    Northwestern fan here. I just became a season ticket holder so that I can go to some games here. Wanted to answer some questions posed by the video. There is at least one night game on the schedule for this season. Those light towers are still in place. I don't know if they plan on adding more temporary lighting for that game. The boxes on the west sideline do look kinda weird, and they will serve as the press/coach boxes. There are places for TV cameras between the boxes. The suites are at the back of the south structure. It should be a great view from up there. They added two jumbotrons on the east sideline and I have heard that they have been slightly angled towards the end zone stands. USC is not on the home schedule for next season. The home schedule includes Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Purdue, and UCLA (and one or two non-con opponents probably, only one non-con opponent on the schedule currently and its an away game). I imagine that they will play five games here and two games at Wrigley next year as well. The dates for each conference matchup haven't been announced yet so I'm not sure how it's gonna shake out in terms of what games are where. I imagine it will work out similarly next year. It will be COLD at the temporary stadium as we move towards the end of the season so the final game there this year is on October 19. The final two home games will be played at Wrigley on November 16 and 30. All-in-all, it is gonna be one hell of a unique atmosphere and I cannot wait to experience it on Saturday.

    • @JeffreyW67
      @JeffreyW67 5 месяцев назад

      They did.
      The most realistic option was SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview -- but that is in the SW suburbs and would be very inconvenient for the students who wanted to attend the games. Wrigley and GRate Fields could not be made available until the baseball season is complete (not that either team has a shot, but you have to plan as if they do). Soldier Field has to coordinate with the Bears, so that would be a challenge. It would also be an expensive option. NW Football is not known for their massive crowds. And I don't know if the indoor arenas are big enough. The United Center would certainly be booked with the Bulls and Blackhawks. The Allstate Arena, maybe?

    The last time I saw something like this was in the CFL in 2010-ish. The BC Lions dome stadium in Vancouver was renovated and took two years. So a temporary outdoor stadium with a capacity of just over 25,000. No Joke.
    Aloha Stadium in Hawaii was condemned because it literally rusted out. The university is playing on campus at a temporary stadium with 15,000 capacity. The University of Hawaii is building a new track and field complex because football took over the track and field stadium.
    No one has any idea when Hawaii football will get a newer and larger stadium.

      And for the next several to come. And the new stadium seems to be getting smaller (and further away) with each new proposal. IIRC, the original plan was for a stadium with a capacity of 35 - 40k that would open in 2026, but the latest plan now has a 25k-capacity stadium that won't be ready until 2028 - if the State Legislature doesn't try again to kill the project and reallocate the funding toward recovery efforts on Maui.

    • @BroadwayJoe99
      @BroadwayJoe99 5 месяцев назад +1

      And that new stadium will be the centerpiece of an "entertainment district". They've become a thing in professional sports around North America and even in Europe, but this is the first time such a district would be centered on a college-football team. I think what's at play here is that the local authorities want to create something that will attract pro teams to Hawai'i. Not the NFL, of course, but a state-of-the-art 25k-capacity rectangular stadium that's being built with rugby and soccer in mind along with American Football could potentially lure Super Rugby, the NRL or even MLS to Hawai'i.

    This seems like the most ridiculous plan ever. Go play at Soldier field. I can appreciate wanting to play on campus. I too love getting back to campus for a college football Saturday. But this low capacity is going to prevent a lot of your fans from getting in. And having the bulk of the seats in the end zone is just going to ruin the gameday experience. If this whole thing were free (which it obviously isn't) then I could see doing it for some low-interest non-conference game in September but using this setup for a high-interest game means leaving millions of dollars on the table.

    A lot of 3rd- and 4th-division English soccer stadiums look exactly like this; 75 percent of the seats directly behind the goals, and only a few rows along rhe sidelines. The diehards lime to stand behind the goals for the atmosphere, leaving the few sideline seats for casual fans or those who can't/won't spend two hours on their feet.

    Lighting --- they can bring in Musco Lighting out of eastern Iowa which has done temporary one-game projects millions of times in college football in the past. Bleachers --- obviously Brodie you've not been in a Big Ten college football stadium even in the recent past for those comments.

    This is like that stretch of interstate that is always laced with potholes everywhere and they decide to finally repair the road. The catch is that it’s going to be closed for two years and you have add 15 minutes to your commute. However when it’s finished the comfort level goes up to 11 and you don’t have to worry about those potholes.
