- Join Aslan & I as we continue south along the Oxford Canal. Soon I pass through a memorable area (for me), Hungerfield and where in Season One I moored for a few days and which was the first time the boaty way of life clicked into place.
Continuing on, I arrive at Newbold-On-Avon, where I moor for the night and the next day, pass through Rugby and the site of the 2017 Boat Tuber's summer BBQ, and eventually arrive at Hillmorton and it's 3 locks.

One of my favorite CHG episodes. No drama no hustle & bustle. Just laid back chug-chug through a green tunnel of relaxation. My pulse & attitude laid down.
And then we got the “Mystery of the Missing Lock”. 🤔
The way you describe how you’re traveling, sounds like sound wisdom. No need to hurry, take your time and enjoy. Safe travels Kevin.
I Kevin a good vlog I remember you on this wen you fast ware on the canals is good won all for now 😊
Would think the 4-5 miles/day and mooring up for several days would make for a much more enjoyable pace. Sounds blissful.
Thanks for all your hard work bringing a bit of the canals to our homes.
Ah thank you so much. I appreciate that and thank you for watching.
👍@@CountryHouseGent
I'm with you there on The Long Way Down/Round CHG! I watch it at least once a year I recon.
Stop and smell the roses good advice to enjoy the fragrance of life. Happy motoring Sir
The guitar riff for “69” cracked me up. Great episode!
Can't think of anything witty to say right now. But years ago I stubbled across you on Prime. Didn't know squat about narrowboats and the canal system. Guess you were "The Gateway Drug" to all this canal watching I been doing. Absolutely hooked.
Yup.
It seems that you have now found the true meaning/pleasure in canal boating and life, which is to slow down and enjoy every second of it. There is only one life in this world Kevin, and it is unique for each one of us! I am very happy that you are slowing down and enjoying it. God bless you brother and may the All-Mighty grant you health and a long life to enjoy it and continue taking us along on these great adventures of yours! Cheers from sunny Puerto Rico!
You look just fine, it's up to you whether you have a shave or not,
I just like to see you and the lovely canals that you travel on and the gorgeous scenery.
Yes take your time when cruising up and down the locks more enjoyable that way
Take care until your next video you do for all of us X X X ❤
The swan family treated you very well when they got out of the front of you to let Aslan cruise on by. I like how you explained about shaving and the lack of desire to do so and how that ties in with viewer comments. What a bit of serendipity, to finally pass by on the towpath the man with the dog named Aslan! I enjoyed every bit of this cruise. Thank you!
Another CHG new ‘un! The weekend has begun. Nice one Kevin.👍
After a rough go of it this week that culminated into a horrible Friday, it's exactly what I need. Aslans puttputting and Kevins musings. A cuppa and pork pie would go down a treat as well.
Ah thank you so much and more than happy to provide some soothing relief at the end of a busy week.
Oh, Kevin..
You always look fine and dandy
Don't let them try and dissuade you.
Always enjoy your videos. Take care and
Keep enjoying life.
love the reference to Long way around, it's an absolute favorite too. Obi Wan and Charlie running their bikes around the world with their stalwart camera guy in tow. Who among us doesn't wish we could do that? nice episode thanks Kevin
Thanks!
Thank you
The good old-fashioned mosey along
For some reason, today's journey with you and Aslan felt like traveling with Mark Twain, but on a British canal rather than an American river. Absolutely lovely. The pace you're setting this season is perfect. Every day's an adventure of the most excellent variety. ❤
Thank you Pat. Yes, less of a race against the clock this time.
Mark Twain was my staple author as a kid. And yes... Kevin's travels remind me greatly of the "lazy" travels of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.
@@Balthazar1963 Spot on!
Like the photo at the end. A nice touch to a good episode. If I remember you did take photos in previous series and added them to the video.
Oh Kevin you are priceless!!
Caught up with your last two films.... Great as always... love him you answer the questions... keep up the great job ....
Compared to your first few seasons, you look healthier and have "de-aged" Lol. Being roughly the same age as you, you have inspired me to "take it all in stride." Thank you.
Great times .. relaxing lovely views . Your great !
Wow the lushness of summer and the sound of trees talking with the wind. Beautiful. Non-shave and all 😆 -Cheers from Seattle!
Hi Kevin! I enjoyed the pacing of this video. By the way, I too have avoided shaving daily for most of my adult life. I agree the whole ritual is a drag.
Absolutely
Thanks
Ah thank you so much Kimmi, I appreciate that and thank you for watching.
Well I liked your full beard over lockdown! Suits you. Nice to see what Rugby looks like, history for me. My gg.grandfather emigrated to South Africa from Rugby in about 1854. He was 7. He was thrown in at the deep end. Was trading by the age of 10, with his uncle.
Beautiful Swan family
Such beautiful scenery and relaxing ride Kevin. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes, Deb
Gorgeous scenery ❤
You look great, I stopped shaving about 10 years ago. You do look like you are living well.
Monkey bike on your tug deck!!!! Smiles per mile sir!!
again, my favorite day of the week, Kevin's got a new post up!! memorable episode from the lovely Oxford canal...heavily wooded areas interspersed with tasteful development...meaningless aside -- have been viewing my favorite British TV shows, noticing an increased use of canals, canalboats, and the associated areas for settings in dramatic productions -- one show even featureed a towpath serial killer along the Oxford (brought to justice by the intrepid coppers)...agree with your wise decision to slow down and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings of canal life
Great video! Do what makes you happy regarding shaving. Former Michigan resident where they talk and complain about the weather plus the lake effect. Lake Michigan’s influence on the climate.
Good to see you looking so healthy and happy. Clearly you are in your element and you do it very well.
I Truely Miss England!,
Lately, Friday mornings have started with my watching the latest installment of CHG's travels, but... I slipped this weekend, and now am watching and starting my Saturday morning at the farm instilled with peaces and tranquility from Kevin's narrowboat travels. Thanks Kevin. Always a great pleasure.
Always good to have you along for the journey, cheers.
The purple bank flowers, the first farm scene, the fat cattle. Hmmmmmm. then add a "tuuug tuuug tuuug tuuug....
Yes, I was quite drawn to the scene of the bull, the mother and the young lad. A little family. No doubt the father has sired a few offspring and won a few shows himself. The young lad probably following in his hoof steps in years to come. 🙂
You truly are a gentleman!
Enjoyable video...all we needed was a CHG cooking segment.
Kevin a real joy to what this blogg thank you
You crack me up!! Love the new hat!😘
I take Med's to get my blood pressure and heart rate down........ I Love the GREAT relaxing video's like this in my life ! THANK you Kevin !!!!
Please keep up the great content for us in the world....
SBF
Wonderful and relaxing. You look good and happy. We fans worry about you. Always wanted to visit England if we do my goal will be to meet you.
Hi Kevin!
I'm so glad that a banana a day keeps your constellations away!
My Mum used to complain, every now and again, about her 'bloody asteroids'!
I'll leave you to figure that one out!😂
Many thanks for sharing your travels!
Enjoying the story as the years drift on, one after another. Light speed, it seems somtimes. Your story has become more than just a man and a boat..Much more.
I’m still ‘ere! Another great one Kevin. Really nostalgic for me, sir! Cheers!
So relaxing to watch. I like to watch whilst on my elliptical machine, and imagine the bit of rocking is caused by canal water underneath a keel rather than a land-based glorified cycle. Thanks for posting this, Kevin. Enjoy your journey - we, your followers certainly do (and I don't care whether you shave or not!).
Thoroughly enjoyed this one, a well known route of ours. Even moored at at Clifton Cruisers for a while when David (Cruising The Cut) was moored there. 💕🦆
Thank you 😊
Yesterday I had a short ride on the narrowboat Jubilee out of Newbury Wharf, and even though it was only an hour, and my bum got wet because it rained, and we weren't even on the canal proper but did go through a lock and a swingbridge--- I got a glimmer of why narrowboating is such a groovy thing. I even knew what a pound is, thanks to you. Cheers, Kevin!
Thanks Kevin, Your weekly editing is much more interesting than having to wait until your entire cruise segment is complete. In particular, your commentary is more interesting because it is fresher in your mind.
Many thanks John, great to hear that though I must point out all my commentary is recorded on the fly, as I film along the canals - none of it is dubbed on later.
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing…!
Thank you for such a relaxing video!! My wife said to me at one point.....What is that bell sound? It confused me initially, then I realised it was the sound of church bells.........It is a sound that I had not heard in the 22 years I have been in Japan! And she - being Japanese, had never heard it! The sound is quintessentially British and was as comforting as it was nostalgic! Thank you, young fella.
Yes indeed Ian, the ringing of the village church bells is as English as roast beef.
thanks kev, just meanderin. love it.
I love it when pedestrians outpace Aslan.
Yep, darn speeding pedestrians.
The swan's thought you had a rod knock or two. Inhaling diesel fumes is great for the digestion.@@CountryHouseGent
yahooo, CHG!!! :D
Very slow and very lovely. This really is back to your narrowboating roots.
The canal as a monastery ...now there's a thought 🤔
In Canada, Kevin'
waterways were our highways in the early days. When I was 16, I canoed the whole Saskatchewan River Water system in a 16-foot cargo canoe from the borders of Alberta to the edge of Manitoba. The rivers were used for trap lines by the Hudson Bay Company. You would think that travelling the whole system, you would run into people, but you really don't. It was all nature until you went through a town and a beer store. It is that peace that I feel in your videos of flowing along and watching wildlife and cows go by. It is a fantastic feeling on a beautiful sunny day. On a more turn-of-century industrial revolution, your canals were your highways, too, and served as lifelines for people. Canals are amazing things and should be preserved at all costs. Thanks again, Kevin, for the Voyage today to the Aslan.
Best wishes, Tom Crosby YQR Regina, Canada
Wow, a 16 foot canoe sounds like a handful, Tom. Not on your own I imagine? And over such distances. Incredible.
@@CountryHouseGent Yes, the canoe fits four people and lots of cargo. It took us two seasons of three weeks each to go about 1800 miles from border to border. We had to portage several times. The whole Saskatchewan River system, both South Saskatchewan and North Saskatchewan River. We found wood in the frame of the Canoe in the QuAppelle Valley and fiberglassed it as a project. The Hudson Bay Company hired only short Canadians, and aboriginal First Nations called them the Coureur Dubois. They used this size of cargo canoe for beaver pelts that were popular and sold in the UK to make your top hats. The United Kingdom Top Hats were made from Canadian beaver pelts. Yes, I love history too Kevin Thanks for taking an interest, friend best wishes, Tom Crosby YQR Regina Canada.
The Oxford is beautiful. I agree about the shaven and unshaven look, though some of us like that bad-boy look. This was so relaxing yet entertaining. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing…
I am chilling on a nice late summer day with you , Aslan and the beauty of the green and pleasant land 🌹 Cheers
Very relaxing.
After watching Travels By Narrowboat since the beginning, I can really say that my favorite episode is the one I'm watching.
🙂 That's awesome, ta.
I am sure people comment on how you look cos they worry for you we all luv you Kevin and Aslan so are always concerned lovely vlog has always woof woof to doggy Aslan I take it you finishing soon for winter 😢 roll on spring tc now the oldies 😉🥰😉🥰
Hello Kevin mick from Hull another lovely episode hope you are well and if you don't want to get a shave you don't have to I don't like shaving either lol 😂😂
Greeting from sunny New Mexico. What a lovely chug, chug. My Dad’s favorite thing was to just putz along in our harbor. This episode so reminded me of him. Thanks so much. I love when people recognize you. Very sweet.
Another spiffing video, thank you Kevin. Hello from The Gambia.
I felt the bit about shaving. I refuse to do it unless I absolutely need to. At most, I simply trim down to stubble with some electric shears and call it a win. And the bonus is that I can give myself a haircut at the same time since I prefer the old buzz cut!
When you said there was a tunnel ahead my first thought was, “oh good we get to go through a tunnel.” What a pretty canal. Just peaceful and beautiful.
Thanks Kevin 😊
I always look forward to Fridays and a trip on the English canals.....thanks Kevin!! Cheers🙂
Catchin' up. Thanks CHG!
Thank you and you're very welcome
I have watched all your seasons and are still following. You are good at it. Keep that up...
Yes, I'm American. It fascinates me the extent of the canals. I understand it tho. We on our side of the pond could never do that. The distances are way too far. But we sure as heck use rivers and waterways. So it's not that much different... Anyhow, carry on and enjoy.
Yes I watch repeats!
Yayyyy!!! Aslan and CHG at break time!!!!
Awesomely awesome!!
Per your usual, great show brother!
Love the shows.all the best
Kevin, A thoroughly entertaining, informative presentation with lovely dialog to boot. The world is running at a hectic pace and GHG is not!! Cheers....
😂 21:31 Those of us in the northern hemisphere (and who are north of 50 years) call them the "Big Dipper"!
The church bells are so lovely.
You do well with it all. I imagine a lot of people with boats don’t really think ahead and cause issues. Not sure I’d cope that well with such idiots myself. What looks like a blissful life may not be for me and would cause me a lot of arguments and anxiety.
I used to shave daily in my youth, but then I got into a creative industry and it could be left and now I’ve had a beard since 2013 or so, so yeah, you keep the stubble mate. The rugged chap about town on a boat is all part of that look.
Thanks. Another lovely slice of canal life. I take for granted all your nice considered cinematography and editing and storytelling now, but it’s all present and correct and I always love your funny looks, insights and comments. Another top Ep to make my weekend. Btw, I appreciated the Bill and Ted reference, likely totally, dude. Wild Stallions, rock!
That stretch of canal as you were getting close to the locks, at least on screen, looks just about perfect. As always, thank you! 👍
Dude! The Bill & Ted cameo was a nice touch. Loved the photo at the end. Love it when you take photos along the canal. You have a good photographic eye.
That was an excellent adventure.
Aaah, yes, that's the life! Thanks, Kevin!
Great trip Kevin. Very gentle with your amusing comments. I just love the sound of Aslams exhaust beat.
Farmer Barley Mow from the TV series Bod. Looking at it now, mind expanding drugs might help to make sense of it, but it made perfect sense when I was 5.
The Barley Barn used to be The Boat Inn (when Mum, Dad and I were cruising in the 70's). Obviously it couldn't pay its way and got bought out by the Barley Mow. The Barley Mow was the place for a meal, The Boat for a pint and a sing song!
I started the day searching for rusty T25 sliding doors and finished here holding a cuppa and a Belgian chocolate. Very relaxing 😊
good for you Kevin to pace yourself & take time to smell the roses on your life journey. Appreciate the videos & sharing your journey with you! Live in Seattle area & enjoy the UK accents & lovely scenery/villages!
Absolutely loved this video as always. On the shaving front 100% with you. If you can get away with it, then do. Keep safe and well.
Such a life you have. Lucky fellow. I think you made the right decision when you bought that narrowboat. I love watching the swans. And by the way I don't know what's wrong with the old fuddy-duddies remember I'm 81 but those old fuddy-duddies that are having a problem with you not shaving. Don't they know that's all the rage nowadays you're just writing style. I can't imagine having to scrape metal over my face every morning
My favorite part of the week is Fri with you and Aslan
Loved seeing the flashback to the canal boaters picnic! Caught a glimpse of Jono! His videos & yours were the first ones I watched 6+ years ago. I was recovering from major back surgery & you two kept me entertained & in good company. 😊 (the pain meds helped, too! 😂😂😂) As you're cruising this winter, would be lovely to see a little glimpse of your travel every so often....😊😊😊
Many thanks. Yes I enjoyed catching up with Jono through his videos. Indeed as I'll be wintering on the cut this year, there'll be a nice steady stream of 'stuff' - just haven't thought about what, yet. 🙂
You look well Kev. Keep up the good work young man.
Namaste 😊
A very pleasant episode CHG! You really looked to be enjoying yourself, which is good for us viewers to see! I enjoyed the scenery, and I remember that 2017 episode with the Boat Tuber's summer BBQ. What I don't remember is if I saw it on your channel or someone elses', I also seem to recall when you had another boater visit you on your boat on his channel. IIRC that was Robbie Cummings, correct? I'm with you on the shaving, not something I enjoy myself. Anyhows, great video, and cheers till the next one!
Yes the video of Robbie and I meeting is on Robbie's channel. The BBQ video is currently only in season one, on Amazon.
I just love your lifestyle. So relaxing and yet adventurous. Be safe ❤️
