This is why I love the Camaro. It somehow feels refined and ready, but gives that raw appeal and makes you still earn it. A real driver's car.

Track alignment and high quality DOT 4 brake fluid and full send. That is all the SS 1LE needs for track day excellence. The OE SuperCar 3's are great on track.

@@frankie072 My 2022 cap says DOT4, but that isn't a guarantee that it is DOT4, let alone the quality and age of the installed fluid. The Performance Supplement says to flush with high quality DOT4 that meets a minimum boiling temp prior to track use. That is just good practice. Boiling fluid has taken out many a track day vehicle. Fresh high quality fluid is the cheapest track day insurance anyone can buy.

I love how in each video I learn something and you don’t just assume your viewers know certain things. Thanks for breaking it down. Learned a lot about the high speed, low speed compression and rebound. Also makes so much sense in terms of what you said about driving high HP rear wheel drive cars, never thought about it like that.

I loved your video and the comparison of the 6 speed vs 10 speed 1LE! I just bought (last year) a new 2023 2SS 1LE 6 speed manual and quickly discovered that you really can't even begin to experience how amazing and capable this car is if you aren't taking it to the track! I've never driven on a race track before in my life, but the 1LE is SO confidence inspiring and capable I am simply blown away by how much true "sports car" car you get for so little money. What I love is it's more than capable of being a great track car without a single modification - bone stock it's the wildest ride I've ever experienced. So sad that Cheverolet is done with the Camaro - it's an amazing bargain. I stayed away from the Camaro because of the reported issues with visibility - but the rear view camera, as well as the traffic alert system etc in the 2SS certainly help with the challenges of seeing what's going on around you. I have zero regret for buying this car, in fact I'd say that anyone that can get one in good shape should because they just don't make many cars like this anymore.

I dont think there is a 'track' specific review of the manual vs auto out there on RUclips! So great job getting this out there for people to see. Luckily, I havent hit full ICE mode yet, but the pedal feel is quite linear and takes some getting used to initially (compared to the F series BMW M pedal with the OEM brake pads which tends to have more initial bite but doesnt seem to have as much stopping power from higher speeds).

I was lucky to find a 2022 Camaro SS 1LE with a manual last June with 3100 miles on it. I love the LT1 with the tall gearing of the Tremec. I will change the tires and thats it, everything else is good from the factory (Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, magnetic ride, forged wheels) Very happy I found one when I did because the 1LE's are really hard to find now. Love the car, I feel like I get the fun and performance of a C7 Grand Sport for much less money.

If I owned the cars, I definitely would be! I have a lot of mechanical sympathy when it comes to driving other peoples cars!
When I post videos of me driving my personal cars, you’ll see.
I also try to be a bit longer and lighter on the brakes and just be outside of threshold braking to leave a bit of margin.
It’s tough as I need to explore the limits of the car in very short amounts of time, 2-3 laps.

Awesome video man, you drove the HELL out of those cars, especially the manual, and just in a few laps as well! Hopefully you can get an opportunity to drive a ZL1 1LE in anger on track soon, as that car comes from factory with Multimatic DSSVs, R comps, and real legitimate aero and downforce. You wanna talk about a track *monster*. The SS 1LEs are so incredibly balanced from factory though, man. The modern Camaros really are just some of the best sports cars/track cars on the market!

GM's magride damping is really good. I also had a DSC controller with DSC's maps, GM is better in tour/sport (overdamped in a good way) DSC better in Track for some situations. The biggest issue with it is the spring rates are really low, which is needed to make Tour work. SS 1LE should have got stiffer springs though, especially up front.

Car excuses for the manual ss1le: it was found that there was air in the brake fluid later, so that explains why it's so hard to modulate for the trail. As for the DTC80 pads, they hit abs way too soon and f up the straight-line braking, too.... The next step for fixing would be, 315 crs (add more grip for brakes to use), castrol srf (love that wet boiling point), let's see if it can be fixed lol

Ice mode is scary! I have an '18 and upgraded the ABS to '19+, ice mode in '19+ cars is rare. You're correct as to cause, and there are a couple more situations where you might get hard pedal such as stabbing the brakes while cornering. ZL1 1LE may not have ice mode programming at all and SS 1LE may be able to accept it's EBCM, not sure... I'm pretty happy with the '19+ SS 1LE ABS programming so far.

Hi, you should try ETC OFF + ESP OFF ;-) Put car in TRACK mode and press TC button for more than 5 sec. For me it works much better than PTM.
To be only 1 sec from record (against great driver + better prepped car) seems almost unbelievable in stock car :) ... do you know conditions, when he drove record? If he drove in 30+ °C ... and you under 15°C (with good air pressure)... it makes big differences too. But still crazy good to be soo close ;-)

    • @DriversPaddock
      @DriversPaddock  2 месяца назад

Thanks for the tip! If I ever get the chance to drive these cars again, I’ll definitely try different modes! PTM did cut a bit too much power, if I was fast with the steering, it would give it to me, but felt slightly unnatural. Unfortunately, I have very limited laps to try to put down a fast one… traffic was bad as well.
The record was done in 25 degree weather with 315 square CRS, pads, fluids, alignment. The front shock is shaved down a bit to allow for more front camber. The driver is one of the best drivers I know… multiple championships in time attack, multiple wins and podiums in wheel to wheel racing - CTCC (Canadian touring car championship)and more… a beast.
I think I would be close with a prepped car, new 315 aggressive 200tw tires.. but those last few tenths are what separate the champions from the rest. All the respect to Chris. 🫡

Piss on a ZLE. The ZLE is not some body in white racecar that GM Performance will sell through special channels, or something like that. Why should a car built on such a great platform as an Alpha Camaro need such a harsh ride to be able to track well? My guess after owning a SLE is it doesn't need the Multimatic setup to be as capable as it is. You can tune, and adjust the MRC setup, so it's not like GM couldn't have improved on the ZL1/SLE's MRC setup for a more tracked focused ZL1. If the ZLE was a non-street legal racecar that's one thing, but from a ride comfort perspective, I'd rather daily a freaking 00 Cobra R, or a Viper ACR than a ZLE. The ZR2 trucks use a Multimatic setup that's much plusher for O/R work, but the only other performance car I know that uses it other than a ZLE is a GEN2 Ford GT. You miss spoke BTW. No modern highend Vette, that's designed to dominate a track full of street cars uses anything other than MRC. C6 Z06 Centennial uses MRC. C6 ZR1 uses MRC. C7 GS uses MRC. C7 Z06 uses MRC. C7 ZR1 uses MRC. C8 Z06 uses MRC. MRC is Ferrari's highend system of choice even in cars such as La Ferrari. Acura NSX uses MRC. Audi R8's premium suspension is MRC. Tons of high-end GMC trucks, and most modern Cadillacs (including your Cadillac V models) use MRC. All of your handling focused S550 and S650 Mustangs use MRC (was first an option on GT350, and then became standard, but was always standard on GT350R. Bullitt, and MACH 1's can be had with it. Standard on 20-23 GT500, and the new Dark Horse.) Lamborghini Aventador, and Huracan use MRC. As do GEN5 Camaro ZL1, and Z/28's which handled as well as, or better than a GEN5 SS 1LE while offering a way nicer ride. Many other vehicles use MRC as well. The point is MRC isn't an inferior system from a handling spandpoint. If it was the C7 ZR1, and the C8 Z06 would both be running Multimatic setups like the ZLE and GEN2 FGT. Using a racecar stiff suspension to make a ZLE capable on a road course, which in turn makes it a straight up crappy street car, is ridiculious, and really puts a bad look on an awesome car, especially when an extremely streetable S550 GT500 with MRC will run with it on a race track. Let's understand something here, Alpha Camaro's are chassis cars, where S550 Mustangs are engine cars. I'd bet going from SC3's to SC3R's add more in the improved track times of the ZLE to the ZL1 more than going from MRC to Multimatic. MRC gives you one of the best riding suspension setups ever invented, while also being extremely capable for track work, and superior to a stiff suspension setup on any track surface that's not smooth and flat.
When you test the ZLE bring a SLE with you. Compare them on the track, and them compare them on the street. Or hell a SLE is basically a ZL1 with a LT1, and a SS grill. The SLE even gets the ZL1's in tank fuel pump, along with it's eLSD, and 9.9" rearend. ZL1 does use 15.1" front rotor, where the SLE uses 14.7" front rotors, but a SLE is largely just a ZL1 with a SS engine/transmission, body, and features and amenities.
