    • @dblm7128
      @dblm7128 5 дней назад

      Depends on what you are looking for obviously. btw - I have a 23 SS1LE. If you are looking to track your car a lot I would go with the SS1LE. Where I live you can get a 2021 model for ~$55k CAD which still would have the 5 year powertrain warranty meaning you will be covered if you pop the engine on track (chevy covers the car for track use as long as you use the recommended fluids and the engine is not modified). The C7 GS is also an excellent choice but you won't have the warranty anymore since 2019 is the last year they would have been built. There is no doubt it would be a more capable car, but considering the price delta (~$75 to 80k) and harder to find manual/Coupe spec, I decided against the C7 GS. I've been a passenger in a C7 GS on track and it has lots of grip, and is ~300 lbs ligher than the SS1LE. So it is more prefereble as a pure track toy than the SS1LE from that respect. But I have a feeling the SS1LE would definitely be a better daily driver if you can get past the visibility issues which took me only 2 days to get use to as long as you set your mirrors correctly. I looked at the Supra also closely before getting the SS1LE. Especially the newer Gen with the manual. But again, for heavier track duty (if that's what you are looking for), you might need to make modifications to the car (better cooling, more camber via camber plates, perhaps wider more sticky tires). Of course, you can tune the supra to the moon and get monster horsepower in a relatively cheap and easy manner, which is something you have to spend crazy amount of money on the Camaro if you want to do the same. Out of the box though, the SS1LE is the better track car since all you need to do is to change the brake fluid for track use (you can even dial in negative front and rear camber via the factor setting so you dont really even need to buy camber plates). It really needs nothing else. And as Jason mentioned in his video here, the Car's PTM mode will allow you to learn at your own pace to go faster with the car. This is something that the Supra doesnt offer, and I dont think you get track coverage with Toyota either (not sure though). Hope the above helps!

    • @DriversPaddock
      @DriversPaddock 5 дней назад

      Great response! I will also add that if you are going to modify the car heavily… the supra has insane potential. The work of Spage, Verus, PhD (Jackie ding) and others have really developed an insane aftermarket catalog for that car. What I’m saying is the supra has a higher ceiling being lighter, having an engine that’s easily tunable to the moon and big aftermarket support. The SS1LE virtually needs nothing out of the box… maybe just camber bolts. It has no vices… no inherent issues you’re driving around… incredible. I have not driven a C7 yet. My friend has one but it’s heavily modified… it will be featured on the channel next year. My money… I would buy a SS1LE if I didn’t modify it… but a supra if I were going to spend money modifying. I’ll throw a curveball and also say the same about the BMW M2 and M2C. I considered all these cars myself before pulling the trigger on my personal M2C F87 Time Attack Build and the shop G87 M2 Time attack build. The tune ability of these cars makes them amazing time attack options. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.

    What are the odds the garmin shits the bed on one of the few laps you get with no traffic!? I feel your pain bro! On the day I set my 1:16.0 in my SS 1LE I went out for one more session trying to break in to the 15's and I put down a few really solid laps with no traffic that felt amazing. I must have got too excited and ejected the SD card before the PDR finished writing the file and the data got corrupted 😞. You put down an awesome lap even if you had to ballpark hand time it! I may have missed it but what tires were used on that car? CRS? Also was it stock suspension with the track alignment or did it have camber plates? 315 squared probably felt amazing! I agree that with the 285 on the front I definitely feel some understeer in certain corners. My next mod I'd like to do 305 or 315 squared and add some more camber. The stock suspension unfortunately doesn't allow for enough negative camber Also i know the owner might not have had the opportunity to spec the car but to spec a 1LE without the PDR is blasphemy! Such a huge feature to be missing out in when using it as a track car

    • @DriversPaddock
      @DriversPaddock 5 дней назад

      @andrewecowan It’s on CRS, pads and fluids with camber bolts. Otherwise stock. I actually think 305 might be better. Less rolling resistance and the car doesn’t need 315. Also, you can’t dial as much camber as there’s less inner clearance with 315’s as the bolts take the camber from the bottom. Regardless, it was a lot of fun. The owner didn’t spec the car. He wishes he didn’t have the heated and cooled seats or the sunroof - just added weight… and you’re right… PDR is a MUST!!! Hope to see you at the track sometime. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.

    Vehicle Dynamics engineer and GR86 owner here. Since I bought the car I always felt that the biggest disappointment, coming from a Mx5 NC was the diff. While on the Miata was perfect, being a superLSD, on the 86 always felt very weak. It needs a lot of input torque to proper lock, and even so, it doesn't lock much. This really kills the car while driving in city, as it is very difficult to drift the car gently while exiting tight radius corners. If you have a lot of space and big radius corner you can do it, but those small tiny drifts, maybe on wet are very difficult. I came to my own conclusion about this situation, after driving the car on track, also on the Nurburgring. Having an engine with so much more torque compared to the old gen '86, if they went for an higher percentage of locking, the car would've been undrivable on track, as with the oem diff you can already slide a lot. Why is that? Simply: this car is severely undersized in terms of tyres. Having such shallow Sideslip vs Ay curve can make the car very progressive, fun and easy, but this combo is not working to me. With this torque, as soon as you go into combined simply you're sliding. Solution? Clutch Type LSD, big tyres (235/245), so you can have the stability on the track and the right amount of sideslip coming out of a corner, and a good, fast locking torque if you want to slide in second gear coming out of a parking lot. :) tl;dr: they had to put potato diff because the rear tyres are undersized.

      He means an extreamly used gen 1 that needed a new engine and tons of body work, not a brand new 2023. The 2023 Brz is an amazing car… enjoy every moment of it. Having driven almost everything under the sun, it’s still such a refreshing drive whenever I get into a BRZ/86.

    Great content dude. Love the walk thru and feedback. Side note, I want to mention I would be careful with the stoptech kit (c43). Looks like c43. I was one of the beta testers when it came out and the verdict on the kit is that is not well made. It chews through pads (sr33 pad) and the rotor needed to be replaced by the 7th day for me. There were also a recent case of a fellow gr86 who had it failed on track. I ended up going with brembo bm4 kit and I would just be cautious if your push hard on the c43 kit.

      Yep. Chews through rotors. Doesn't have a ton of heat capacity. Rotors are impossible to source. I'd love to update to a brembo bm4 kit.

    Makes no financial sense to do this but hey that's not why we love modifying cars for right?

    If you put a fa20 on a fa24 bottom end wouldnt that put your compression higher than stock?

    • @blackice228

      Not necessarily, because the heads need to be machined in order for them to clear the pistons, that increased combustion chamber volume lowers compression closer to the OE FA24's 12.5:1.

    For context, a stock mk5 supra with a good driver runs 1:20 on this track!

      1:20.4 is crazy fast in this car but Jason actually drove my bone stock A91 Supra to a 1:17.98

    I hope there is some light engine price build. Is it at all viable as a replacement option to stock build swap that would have a small turbo or supercharger. I’d like the better torque. Have had my stock for 10yrs now
