Definitely agree with everything here. I was skeptical on the kameo system but im really seeing the potential in now, but still not implemented right. Either way, adding another mode would be really needed rn. Its actually really odd that they dont bother to bring in some old modes. Chess Kombat seems to be the most logical choice to bring back, it literally uses the node system that invasion has with its move forward, backward, left right etc. Would be awesome to go into invasions and see a chess kombat Mesa you can go to. Also Definitely would like to see more legacy moves, they can definitely build upon mk1s base characters and just add on to them in mk13, if they dont do kameos again. They have so much history they can pull from but are weird about it for some reason. Just really wish NRS would give their reasons why they make their decisions the way they do to understand it.

I used to love playing Reptile in the old games, but his acid spit and forceballs in this game made me never want to touch him. I just want his classic fucking moves to do what they've always done. Why can't acid spit be a fast full screen projectile like peacemaker's gun? Why do the acid balls have to be big globs of shit that last for a few seconds if they are unenhanced? Absolutely ruined the character for me.

I can see that NRS tried to innovate how some of Reptile's classic moves work for MK1, which isn't inherently bad. However, if they're going to do that, then the moves need to be effective!
I never see any Reptiles use Acid Spit at all in MK1, just like I never see Sub-Zeros using Ice Ball because they're both equally useless.
But his Forceballs are really good in MK1 - they hit twice, launch for a combo for free and are large like that so that people can't easily jump over them. The only issue with them is that Reptile can't move once he's thrown one - which needs to be fixed in a patch.
Nonetheless, I feel your pain. But I do think both Sub and Reptile will be buffed at some point like Quan was.

After Midway's departure, I stopped playing any MK game that came after it. However, I don't play modern games anyway, as I'm a retro game enthusiast nowadays. I agree about the MK MUGEN games being love letters to the franchise, that was my experience when releasing MK2 UNLIMITED MUGEN back in late fall 2019. Great playthrough, my friend!

Shinsmoke!! I love playing your MUGENs of MK! I still adore your version of MK2 and play it on the Steam Deck all the time.
I want to play a standalone version of the OG MK1 that is similar to yours or this lovely game here. But, I will admit that the Mortal Kombat Komplete MUGEN is fire as hell too!
Keep on making those Mugens and I will certainly play them.

You can't be hitting us with some sick gameplay like that and expect us to pay attention to what you're saying😂😂

Thanks for the kind words! I love those Klassic MK games and grew up on them since the 90s. Also, this game's mechanics are rock-solid; being able to do instant-air projectiles and having the game be so snappy and responsive, especially when something whiffs, is very refreshing and fun.
This game gets 4 thumbs up from me!

Really cool MUGEN, and I totally agree on the topic of legacy. It would have been nice to see refinement from mk9 to mk11.
I do hope mk13 is legacy, but a part of me isn’t too optimistic that they’ll stick with the assist based mechanic :/
Btw, are you still open to review / talk about MK fan content? I have an MK fan comic that I’d love to hear your thoughts on.

As far as the assists, they can be a separate mode, like how MK9's Tag Mode was. That one change would have saved MK1 a lot of trouble.
But as far as the MK fan comic, I would absolutely love to look at it and give my thoughts on it!

@@wren8253 Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnn, lemme tell you something:
This comic is AMAZING! I love the characterization of everyone, especially Raiden, Liu Kang and Kitana. Hell, even characters like Sub-Zero and Shang Tsung are much more fleshed out than they have been in the games. They all have their motivations and internal/external conflict that all makes so much sense in the context of the tournament.
I like the parallels between Kitana, Liu Kang and Scorpion. Liu and Kitana are both being groomed for victory for their respective realms and they both are saddled with self-doubt and deception respectively. Then Scorpion is very similar to Kitana in his path for revenge, but he's mindlessly bloodthirsty, unlike Kitana, who herself is portrayed as super-strong and deadly for once.
I only have some slight nit-picks. For one, we need that full color, not just the selective color that was present. The OG MK tournament has always been depicted in a colorful manner and given how much legacy was placed into this comic, that should be another aspect that is maintained. Also, it is my hope that the next issue doesn't continue to show all the bad guys continuously getting steamrolled by the good guys. That has been a major issue in all of the MK Story modes and so I'd like to see some evil characters shown as legitimately threatening.
Having said all that, I love the portrayal of the characters, especially how they are all drawn and depicted. The dialogue is this comic's biggest strength because it builds so much character as efficiently as possible.
This was a fantastic recommendation. Thank you.
