I love how smart she is couse she didnt got that early 00's that everyone tried, she got that mid to late 00's and give her on spin, the aunty core+disney teen star aesthetic is really good
Thanks for making the point that people from Gen Z who litterally grew up in the early 2000's making art about our memories and lives is not the same as the "y2k asthetic".
I was in high school from 2009 to 2013, so it’s kind of surreal seeing frutiger metro coming back so soon. I guess it’s not that early for the 20-year nostalgia cycle, but I think PinkPantheress is ahead of the curve. People are meme-ing her JC Penny Manager aesthetic, but give it a few years and I’m sure so many people will be dressed like secretaries from 2008.
I was in high school from 2007-2011 and I saw a teenager recently online say she wished she was a teenager when the “Twilight” movies came out. And I was like 😭 oh no it’s starting 😂
The Fruitiger Metro part absolutely took me back. I had a folder on my old school laptop FULL of these sorts of pictures that I would have as my desktop background 😂
She really outdid herself with the debut album “Heaven Knows”. I wasn’t a fan, I literally didn’t even hear a single song from her except Boys a Liar, but I enjoyed her album a lot and I can say that her album is one of the best experimentally talking from this year for me, which is extremely important since almost all nowadays acts are dull, bland and prefabricated!!!
As someone who was born in 1999, I have always LOVED the Y2K/2000s Aesthetic! We are definitely in the resurgence of that era I like to call Y2K2.0. I think with most of Gen Z, we were all too young to even experience that era, but now that most of us are teenagers to our mid 20s, we get to experience and see it thanks to internet archives and put our our own twist on it because of our love for nostalgia and longing for a simpler time when the world is full of chaos. The music, the fashion, the TV shows, and the movies were EVERYTHING! I am obsessed with the fashion and the sound from that time and as a gay black boy who couldn’t really enjoy those things back then, it heals my inner child being able to live my inner Bratz fantasy and truly express myself like I wanted to as a kid. Lol. PinkPantheress ABSOLUTELY DEVOURED with this album!! Of course, I became hip to her on TikTok, but I became a fan when Boy’s a liar came out. The album is so nostalgic and is girly pop personified and takes me back to a simpler time! Blue, True Romance, Another Life, Feel Complete, Mosquito, and Internet Baby are my favorites off the album for sure! Drum n bass, breakbeat, garage, hyperpop, house, and other sounds reminiscent to pop and R&B music of the 2000s is very niche, but it has become a bit more prominent in mainstream thanks to PinkPantheress. I think with artists like her, Flo, NewJeans, XG, Piri & Tommy, Erika de Casier, and Lolo Zouaï, they do a good job of taking from that era, but making it their own in some way, shape, or form. I will FOREVER be a lover and fan of that era! Don’t care, don’t care!
I think the most nostalgic song for me was actually True Romance. Nothing makes me more nostalgic than thinking about the times when I was a young pre teen girl and being a fan girl, and that song truly embodies what it felt like during that time. The album is just so good
What I loved about this album is how PinkPantheress intersected her sound with a lot of different genres whilst keeping it consistent. I've always had a lot of respect for what she's doing but she definitely made a fan out of me with this record. Also, I'm pretty sure on the official tracklist photo Boy's A Liar is labelled as a "bonus" so Capable Of Love is the real closer.
I really thought she was just like some random sound floating around on social media but when I started digging into her music i was blown away. She keeps things really simple but theres still somehow a level of flamboyance to her at the same time.
I love the y2k revival music link panthress does a great job at emulating that. It sounds like my childhood☺️ I’m glad she’s finally getting her flowers 💐
I love that she leans into the less "fashionable" or dated aspects of 2000-2010 styles. I grew up watching my family get ready for their day and for special occasions. There's a certain hominess to the glamour. It would really show that her team did their research if they showed off the stylings of subcultures and LGBT+ POC. Like the aviator sunglasses, tight Aeropostale shirt and brown leather flip flop combo that a lot of the Mexican gay men I knew wore lol. Iconic
I feel like it works for her because it’s coming from a real place and not a label making her do it. What really made me push to listen to her was when she sampled Paramore. “Ophelia” and “The aisle” are my favorites right now. Great video!
i love this album, as you said. tracks are short more like ringhtones than songs but still. I didn't feel like "I want more" but more like "I want to do it again". I love track "Ophelia" but "Capable of Love" is on another level. The "3 little words dedicated them to me" hurts my heart. When it comes to Y2K for me it's more her looks are more reminiscent of it than music which i would describe as dreamy bedroom pop. Big belts, short tops and those purses - girlll.... I'm living that small budget. Give her whote long heels and tattoo on her lower back
Really enjoyed the whole y2k trend of the past few years but as a 2000 baby this whole frutiger aero/metro is definitely more in line with my childhood nostalgia
Naomi girl, I've been thankful to have watched your first vid talking about Pink P, I hadn't been so obsessed with an artist's music for a while, her music just feels good in my body and soul, thank u queen ❣️ I don't really usually comment ur vids but I love your content a lot
i was blown away with how much detail was in the Nice to meet you video. It was honestly my least favorite off the album, but the visuals were so accurately 2000s and frutiger metro. Especially i wanted to add i noticed even the central cee part in the restroom reminded me a lot of those kind of urban grungy aesthetics that tons of those edm or pop music videos started to have at the time, such a cool touch. The Aisle reminds me of 2020 so much, the 80s dance influence with the Supalonely sample!(Didn’t notice before this video, time flies lol) and Feelings reminds me of a Kaytranada song, i remember listening to BUBBA & pinkpantheress so much that year when i first discovered her. Honestly im so glad all this stuff is making a comeback i can’t get enough of it and it’s so fun trying to make art inspired by the 2000s. PinkPantheress is such an inspiration she does it the best! So nostalgic
one of the other artist that gets a 00s style to a T is babysosa her personal style and her posts everything is so spot on and she dont care about going into the "ugly" side of it
idk if you have but you should listen to some of the demos for this album and some of the changes off the physical release of the album. for example the physical version has no central verse on nice to meet you and a new kelela verse on bury me. one demo that is really interesting is phelia and how different the productionis from ophelia, it still has the same themes (guy invites her to house to drown her and trap her in the house) but takes on a more wistful and dreamy approach rather than the 2010s avril sound that was on the album
idk how accurate is this, but i sort of thought the bird represented her passed lover. basically the first song is about how her lover died in his sleep, so it makes the rest of the album seems like she’s reflecting on the relationship all of the good and bad. and since the pigeon is always present it represents the person that passed on and she’s always thinking of.
I'm so glad you covered this! I got it on vinyl and two lovely surprises are there's an extra Kelela verse and there's a demo version of Feelings that is a lot more tabla-heavy! I agree that she's one of the best tiktok starving artists out there, love to see Pink doing her thing.
To me, pinkpantheress’ music videos and style are very reminiscent of my childhood, it reminds me of hand-me-downs from my brothers, their graphic t-shirts and cargo shorts, bodywarmers, the sugababes, my brothers being around the same age as pinkpantheress. I think pinkpantheress is extremely alike 2000s UK high schools maybe like, even thought i wasnt in high school then, my brothers were, that must be what she thinks of when she thinks 2000s-2010s. And also the nice to meet you mv reminds me EXTREMELY of the barbie diaries!
I love her album cover and the title of the album heaven knows the album I think it's beautiful and I will be tuning in and I also love her y2k fashion sense have a blessed day and Happy Merry Christmas and a New Years to you and your family and friends!❤🎉
Wow you’ve taught me a lot in this video 🫶🏽 the y2k styles, the instrumental references! The fact that ppl are being this picky about the exact year of y2k is so funny to me. I’m calling anything 2000-2010 y2k bc it’s not that serious 😂 But I loved & agree with your references. I love her song so I’m definitely going to check out her new album.
Nah, she'll probably win best new artist in the next year or two. They're defo watching her tho. Her team is building her towards that slow and steady. But then again it all depends if she takes the oath
three weeks late but i feel like heaven knows is so unappreciated because of her artistic view. i grew up starting with late 00s, early 10s and it’s so cool how she altered it now. most of the disney channel aesthetic in the “nice to meet you” video gives a lot of those vibes, with songs like “the aisle” and “true romance” gives a lot of late 00s dance pop. i also think that “feelings,” the biggest deep cut of the album, gives a lot of scene kid vibes melodically, and the instrumental personally gives crystal castles x 00s rnb.
Her fashion style really reminds me of Elena Gilbert (the vampire diaries). I know back in the day that was like the least adventurous style a girl could have but now it seems so particular lol. Anyway I really love PinkPantheress and the song with Kelela is just perfect 💕
timbaland and missy elliot used tons of indian instruments at the turn of the century, very cool sound of the 2000's! it's sort of seeing revived popularity in drill
I thought i was the one who felt this 2000 nostalgia. In fact when i first listened to "boy's a liar part ii"... The sound of it inmediately threw me back to 2008.
This is why I love her music I do love that early 00 sound but it's kind of getting boring and overated alot of other artists like Olivia Rodrigo are already marketing off that time period but honestly they arent doing it accurately like pinkpantheress is she is showing true y2k thru her style of clothing and music plus her aound is more 2008-2010
naomi please please i want to see you review between friends music❤❤they’re my favourite band for years and they just released an album this year ‘i love my girl she’s my boy’ and my favourite mixtape from them is called ‘i like when you shine’💿💿
giving sound clips a shot again- finally figured it out and just thought RUclips had it out for me 😭
I love the sound clips even if i mostly listen to the things you discussed it's so nice to hear the audio from time to time.
Great video!!! Just wanted to let you know that doves and pigeons are actually the same bird! So that might help make more sense of the cover/mosquito
@@honestlytho426 oh I know! That’s why I mentioned they’re “seen” differently
I love how smart she is couse she didnt got that early 00's that everyone tried, she got that mid to late 00's and give her on spin, the aunty core+disney teen star aesthetic is really good
Yeah. Its so much more nostalgic to me bc i was born in the early 2000s like her.
it fits her so much! She's going for that Disney/Nick channel era and Y2K wouldn't fit.
I love how she’s committed to Y2K aesthetics lmao. It’s giving 2008
Okay yes she’s how I wanted to dress back then
I was born in 2008😢
@@martonflora1811should've been born earlier

Right the trend cycles are moving scary quickly now!! Almost not even worth it to try and “keep up”
I was in high school from 2007-2011 and I saw a teenager recently online say she wished she was a teenager when the “Twilight” movies came out. And I was like 😭 oh no it’s starting 😂

well said and I totally agree!!!
Greg Kurstin, Lily Allen's go-to producer also coproduced the entire "Heaven Knows" album which could explain the similarities....
She snapped with nice to meet you, mosquito, and capable of love with her new album. The best three in my opinion.

Yes, and Jorja Smith has a jungle song with Nia Archives called Little Things it sounds similar to some of PinkPantheress' music.
All I want is Pink Pantheresd and NewJeans to have a bop
