I love Machico. I stayed there from the 5th until the 19th February and the weather was very kind. The carnival on the 11th was great in brilliant sunshine. Thanks again Jeff.
We so much loved these wonderful stories. Thank you for that. We are looking forward to tours with Lisa and with Hit the Road in July (which we already booked on Black Friday). We re-read the legend of Cavalum on the internet and start here and now at that point, when god imprisoned Cavalum in the caves. Cavalum is still alive and and can be heard on rainy days, "and some say, if you want to find him in the caves he would eat you." Please, don`t you go there, we need you for many more videos and tours! 😪
Ahahaha I will try not to get eaten Anton 😂 thank you my friend 🙏 you’re going to love your time here!! Very soon we will be in July already :)) I hope I get to see you, have a great week!
Thanks Jeff, André & Lisa ☺ I actually stayed next to the yellow fort in Machico in an apartment above Portas Verdes 2 years ago where I savoured my 2nd ever poncha! The first was a complimentary treat at the airport as there was a welcome reception for the first ever Ryanair flight from Dublin which I was on. I found that history fascinating & always learn something new about the Pearl in your vlogs! By the way I spotted Porto Santo in the far distance on a clear late afternoon at Rocha do Navio a couple of years back too. Would you happen to know if the cable car is back in action there? Also on Lisa's walking tour which I'm interested in going on, does she welcome vloggers as long as they're not going to film the whole tour, but just small segments? Have a great week & weekend my friend as it's St Patrick's Day om Sunday! 🤗☘🇮🇪
Hey Rue! We had a great st Patrick’s thank you and sorry I’ve been so busy 😝 yes, Lisa is ok with vloggers I believe, she deals with me after all ;) not sure about the cable car though. Glad you enjoyed the video and we’ll be bringing more of these cause people are liking them :)) See you soon buddy!! 🤠 Big hug
Had a delayed flight home on Friday and spent the night in Dom Pedro, Michico. Wish I'd checked out your video whilst I was there! Actually spotted you on our way back from PR1 on Wednesday afternoon at the glass platforms near Santana! Thought I'd leave you a comment and say hi 👍
Thanks Jeff and Hit the Road team for anther interesting video. I lived in Machico for 5 months, did daily hikes in the hills. The people of Machico are warm and wonderful and the beach is great to swim in most days.
Hey Ali! Good to hear from you buddy 🙏 Haven’t spent too too much time in Machico but I do enjoy my visits there, some great trails 😍 seems like a great place, but I need to be in the hustle in Funchal ;)) hope you’re well bud!
Thanks for this video . We were in Machico a week ago . Great to hear the history and legends . With your long hair and beard , Jeff you are the image of Mo Salah .
I believe there was one in Funchal, it was before my time unfortunately. I also think it must have been amazing to see the first planes landing as well, the sea planes and even after the airport being built, must have been fun for the locals eheh
Lol I used to say “Madera” cause of my South African upbringing, we also well known for saying “Ibiza” wrong so ya … But I found I annoyed some people by not pronouncing it “in Portuguese” so now it’s kinda coming out mainly like that but sometimes not so ya who knows? Lol you can also say “madeera” and be British about it 😂😂😂
Just a theory. Maybe its a mutation like here in Wales. C for G Cymru, Gymru ? As Portugal may , i say may come from Celtic people, Portu - Gal ?, maybe they used that mutation with Zargo, Zarco, V and U is common latin mutation. thats just a theory :D
That was fascinating, thanks for the interesting history of Machico and Madeira Jeff and Lisa. Excellent stuff. 👏
Thank you very much 🙏
We’ll be bringing out more, please let me know before you come, things are crazy right now ;)
Have a great week my friend 🙏

Not everyone spends a night in Porto Santo, Jeff 😂
Hello where do we get Liza free tours? I am coming to Madeira in October need to take her tour.
You can find her on google
“Free walking tours Funchal”
Very much recommended 🤠
I wonder when the first tethered, hot air ballon was launched in Madeira, would've been amazing to see it from the air for the first time
I believe there was one in Funchal, it was before my time unfortunately. I also think it must have been amazing to see the first planes landing as well, the sea planes and even after the airport being built, must have been fun for the locals eheh
moro ao pe dessas furnas
e estao muito boas , foram pelo caminho errado
pois, não tínhamos a mínima ideia aonde podia ser, nunca tinha ouvido da lenda e gostava muito de ver as furnas, um dia chego lá de certeza 🤠
I have to ask Jeff, is the way you pronounce Madeira a SA way or a Portuguese way? Asking for a friend 😂
Lol I used to say “Madera” cause of my South African upbringing, we also well known for saying “Ibiza” wrong so ya …
But I found I annoyed some people by not pronouncing it “in Portuguese” so now it’s kinda coming out mainly like that but sometimes not so ya who knows? Lol you can also say “madeera” and be British about it 😂😂😂
😄looking forward to our trips in May - especially coffee, cake, empanada and poncha. Great history lesson, thank you!
😎
