The Most AUTHENTIC Tradition in MADEIRA (Festa do Panelo 2024)

- This is a well-known and longstanding tradition in Madeira, celebrated on the last Sunday of January, and is cherished with a special sentiment by the local residents of Seixal, a small village near Porto Moniz.
This social gathering takes place early in the morning at Chão da Ribeira, on the first Sunday after the religious feast of St. Antão. Families come together on this occasion to prepare the "Panelo," a culinary dish made with vegetables and blood sausage, very similar to "Cozido à Portuguesa" (Portuguese stew). The event also features stalls selling local food and drinks, along with plenty of entertainment.

Ahah Rue I was tipsy at around 13h 😂 yes I believe you could do it with chicken or lamb, even with beef, it would be something else though, not cozido à portuguesa. The bottle I think is around 80 bucks, not cheap but very good!!

Well this is kind of a local tradition, not quite “open to the public” however, I’m sure you’ve noticed how friendly Madeirans can be, so maybe they would have let you in ;))
