bobby’s dhaba, popular punjabi vegetarian restaurant, authentic punjabi homestyle food, aaloo paratha, aloo paratha, dal makhani, paneer bhurji, palak paneer, choley masaley, phulka, lassi
Bobby Da Dhaba goes back over 35 years ago when a family from Gurdaspur were invited by the Gurdwara in Bengaluru to set up a tiny eatery next to it to serve “ghar ka Punjabi khaana” to devotees for whatever price they could afford to pay. The eatery has moved away from the gurdwara since, but the tradition of the family’s service to its customers remains, and the food continues to be rustic and wholesome, the sort you will find in a Punjabi home, fortified with loads of makhan, butter! I drove 20 kms to the far flung suburb of Nagasandra to meet Bobby, his grandmother named the dhaba after him, and in addition to savouring a big, fat meal of parathas, chole, paneer bhurji, dal makhani, palak paneer and more, also managed to down a litre of lassi!
    Sweet Lassi
Choose from a 750ml/ 1000ml or 1500ml glass based on your appetite. The lassi is thick and creamy and the sort that can easily fill you up, so choose wisely.
    Rs. 90/120/150 (usd) for 750ml/1000ml/1500ml
    9/10
    Aaloo Paratha
Bobby Da Dhaba’s spicy parathas are dripping with butter, when here definitely get these.
    Rs. 100 (usd 1.3) for 2 nos.
    9/10
    Dal Makhani
Although this isn’t a dal that is simmered overnight, it’s creamy with a bit of a bite. You can taste the fiery heat of the chilli tadka on the palate, the paratha helps tone down the heat as does the dollop of butter on this dal that one will definitely return for.
    Rs. 80/ 130 (usd 1.1/1.7) for ½ / full portion
    9/10
    Paneer Bhurji
The tomatoes in this dish give it a sour twang, the paneer isn't the softest and the chillies in this preparation grip you on the throat.
    Rs. 150 (usd 2)
    7.5/10
    Choley Masala
The sort you will taste in a Punjabi home, You can taste the edge of the coriander powder and the warmth of the ginger in this delicious dish.
    Rs. 80/ 130 (usd 1.1/1.7) for ½ / full portion
    8.5/10
    Palak Paneer
The spinach is mellow in its flavours, if spice isn't your thing, order this.
    Rs. 80/ 130 (usd 1.1/1.7) for ½ / full portion
    7/10
    Phulka
Rs. 10 (usd 0.1) per phulka
    9/10

We were one of his initial customers who pushed him to start providing meals us as college students way back in 1992. We used stay in Cox Town and used come daily for dinner. Bobby's Grandmother and mother used cook the food and Bobby used serve it with lots of respect. There used single table with four chairs. Bobby really worked hard and reached where he is today. I remeber it used be 5 rs for dal , 5 rs for Subzi and 1 rupee for roti. God Bless him abundantly

Hi Kripal, though I have watched almost al ur episodes , this one I really enjoyed. Real nostalgia. The last time I visited this place was wen they were next to the Lavanya theatre for a while in 2015. Had heard from unconfirmed sources that they had moved to Yeshwanthpur. Being from the east of Bangalore, never really cud think of visiting. Long back they used to serve EGG BHURJIS TOO. But they stopped (wen they were next to the gurudwara itself ). Thanks for ferreting out this place. Think wil go ahead and make a list of such lost/hidden gems for u to visit

Had a very bad experience with this place 1st you need to wait time varies between (25 mins-65mins) and later once you get a seat to sit you need to wait some more time for the order to reach your table. The food is it worth the wait?? Definitely not on any given day the taste is really not good, food lacks salt and spice. And place is very unhygienic as I saw the plate on which onions was served to us was later taken back and new order was served on the plate without cleaning the plate. I would recommend people rather stay at home cook happily whatever you want and make a more sweeter and thicker lassi and enjoy your day.

We just visited this place. It was a good 1 hour drive from our place. There are few things you should be prepared before you visit the place. When you reach there, there is a waiting period of 1hour before you get a table and then another 1hour before the food gets served. Typical home style cooked food, nothing great. On top of it its too noisy as the orders are yelled to the chefs and then you wait and wait. Not worth so much for just a simple home style food. They have a very limited items in the menu.

  • @vamsuduk

Gastronomic memories flood through a watering mouth (* wipes mouth), reviving 15yr old memories of munching on the super yumm food and very hungry tummies (aggravated by the wait) in the small, cozy hardwood seating in the place when it was at Ulsoor. The memory of bobby's dad in his buttery talks, his way of all his customers 'maharaaj'. Wow those memories! The egg burji (yes, that was only non-veg we used to get) and paratha accompanied by lassi, followed by a very cold sumptuous bowl of kheer (at times 3) will always linger on and on and on!
Long live bobbyji and ur lengendary food. 🙏
And thanks a lot for bringing this back, Mr Kripal. 🥰

When they were in Ulsoor, the buttermilk was served in steel glasses and the owner used to literally goad you by saying, "Matte lelo matte". In 2008 it was priced at 12 rupees

Apologies. But the Dal Makhni definitely doesn't look like the standard one. Nevertheless it looks tasty on it's own accord. Overall dishes look gr8 though.
Loved the way the Paaji spoke. Seems so genuine in his words.

The matta, kadhi... and cold kheer ..... and Bobby's punjabi style conversation .... Still fresh in my mind .... i have had food in both gurudwara one and then when they moved near the commercial street also... weekly once for more than 10 years ... After they moved out , manjit da dhaba was the next space

I used to visit this joint every alternate day, couple of years ago. I had to wait for at least 25 min plus every time I came here. I am deeply saddened by the current state of affair with authentic restaurants such as Bobby da dhaba..why did they move out of ulsoor? May be that was a mistake. . My god... the crowd back then with all the rubbing shoulders and the thinning crowd now!!!..i can only imagine how this pandemic is wreaking havoc on the businesses of these food joint

Been to this place 3 years back. As there was crowd waiting, tried enquiring owner about takeaway. He was rude and shouting asking us to wait and didn't bother to take order. He may serve best food in the world. But I don't like to be in the place where there is no minimum respect. Hence not visited this place since then even though it's near to my place. I don't want to comment on food as I have not tasted.

It was our first food outside. All the memories come rushing back. I hope this eatery doesn't die out.. Too many memories 👌👌👌
