Temple food to many isn't about mere nourishment but a blessing from the divine. And when temple fare is presented in a culinary experience that is not only rich in its depth of traditions, but also celebrates diversity to appeal to all humanity, it is elevated to food that truly satisfies the soul. In a first on Gourmet On The Road, I experience the philosophy and flavours of Sattvic cuisine at The Higher Taste, a fine dining restaurant located in the serene environment of ISKCON Temple, Bengaluru. This isn’t a typical episode, but then the experience too isn't! Hope you enjoy this very special presentation, take care and stay safe.
    Please note:
As a mark of respect to this meal that is served in a temple complex, I have chosen to not rate the dishes in this episode. Thank you.
    Nuggekai Rasam
The rasam is flavourful and aromatic, you can taste the sweet lilt of fennel, the warmth of pepper and the weight of the lentils and drumstick drumstick pulp. The floating drumstick kernels add to the appeal of this nourishing broth.
    Rs. 165 (usd 2.2)
    Multani Paneer Tikka
The paneer is stuffed with the richness of cream and nuts, marinated in yoghurt, saffron and cooked in the tandoor. The peppers provide for a pleasing crunch, and the chaat masala cuts through the dairy richness and refreshes the palate.
    Rs. 325 (usd 4.4)
    Potato Milagu Fry
Baby potatoes that are tossed in a sprightly spice mix, loaded with pepper, chilli flakes, cumin, crunchy, fried curry leaves and the fresh tang of lime juice.
    Rs. 230 (usd 3.1)
    Mango Rasgulla Chaat
Visualise a chatpata paapdi chaat where the paapdi is replaced with soft rasgullas immersed in the sweetness of mango pulp. If you want to begin your meal on a sweet and spicy note, this is the dish to try.
    Rs. 250 (usd 3.4)
    Raja Bhojanam
Paneer, peas and nuts cooked in a rich cashew, cream and ghee laden curry, topped with a touch of saffron, this curry is a touch of indulgence befitting a king! The spicing is mellow, barring the tingling prick of heat when one bites into a peppercorn. The soft, layered warki paratha makes for a comforting companion to the Raja Bhojanam. If you’d like to add a touch of spice, savour this gravy with the chilli cheese naan, stuffed with mozzarella that bridges to the creamy flavour of the curry, and topped with finely chopped green chillies.
    Rs. 285 (usd 3.9)
    Warki Paratha - Rs. 80 (usd 1.1)
Chilli Cheese Naan - Rs. 120 (usd 1.6)
    Vazhaipoo Murungakai Kozhambu
A ‘coconutty’ curry with fried banana blossoms and drumstick segments. The drumstick segments are a tad fibrous, the banana blossom, deep-fried, lends a bit of a bite to this dish. The curry is thick, rich in its coconut flavours and does well to smother every grain of the rice.
    Rs. 285 (usd 3.9)
    Vetrilai Thakkali Satham
An unusual rice preparation that brings together the sharp flavours of betel leaves with tomatoes. Although the paan flavours are quite pronounced on the palate, the pulpy freshness of the fresh tomatoes helps cut the astringency of the former. Rs. 280 (usd 3.8)
    Elaneer Payasam
A payasam of tender coconut, coconut milk, thickened milk for sweetening, this payasam makes for a pleasing end to the meal at The Higher Taste.
    Rs. 210 (usd 2.9)
    Paan Ice Cream
A sweet paan that’s blended into a homemade ice cream, this is a ‘beeda’ the customary sweet paan that concludes a festive meal, in a dessert!
    Rs. 165 (usd 2.2)
    Please note:

Everything is great except the statement that Onions and Garlic are not native to India. In fact they have been part of India for thousands of years and the tomatoes they use to make one of the bases have not. Tomatoes were brought by Europeans but not Onion or garlic. No false information please (this is for ISKON team). Other than that food is always tasty and gives a nice soothing feeling during consumption - at ISKON restaurants. God bless!!

Ha ha. I didn't ask your caste, why did you bring the world Brahmin?" I am sure you are not a Brahmin. You are definitely a member of the Brainwashing Brigade of the Joshua Project who like to use Indian Culture only as a medium to achieve the objectives of the Joshua Project. Joshua Brigade members have started Christian Vedanta, Christian Carnatic Music, Christian Bharatnatyam. We have been watching more and more illegally built Concrete Cross symbol, Jesus & Mother Mary statues very near Temples on Hills, where there are no Christians. We see some Christian NGOs becoming active near Temples during Temple Festivals distributing Bible books to Hindu devotees silently. For you, they may be serving Hindus in your so called purest form of secularism. But, we are not impressed with such acts because we understand their motto and very well understand the hatred or negativity they carry against Hinduism while performing their Christian missionary activities.
Here in Karnataka, we consider Kadamba Bhuvaneshwari as the mother of Kannada as per the historical reasons. Few Christian organisations (majority of them are rice bag convert Tamilians, not even 10% Kannada Christians) came up with Mother Mary as the mother of Kannada language. Wow, it is a great Idea for you, right. You promote Christianization of all India and Indian culture and value system in the so called Fusion. We very well understand your promotion of fusion of Indian Culture which is only to go near to Hindus. Once you go there, you propagate Christianity using this fusion.

I think over marketing of Satvik food is not good for well being of the country. In Ayurveda food is divided between Satvik, Rajasik and Tamasik for some reason. Satvik food is not for everyone and there is no higher and lower food. We should eat food according to the profession we do...a satvik food is not recommended for manual labourers..

@@niteshgowda8995 fine dining is as much about the ambience and service as much as it is about the food. We find much better food in small restaurants spread all over the world but one would go to these sort of places mainly for the luxuries with which the food is served and the quality is ingredients that are used. These are just ‘experience’ places that I’d visit once in a few years, for that experience of luxury. We’d have to be cash millionaires to consider this as a place only for food.
