I almost went to this show. I saw DT maybe 30 times between 1992 (in a REALLY small club on Long Island) and 2000. Then once in 2017. I think I'll just keep the memories. Such a happy part of my life.
There's no chance Another Day will be played again at this point.
Eh, Great tune but seeing how James struggles with the high notes nowadays they should definitely play more songs that use his lower register. Either that or maybe tune the higher songs down, pull me under could sound pretty good a step down

The Spirit Carrys On Finale reminds me of the early days when the boys were on tour with Queensryche and I Mother Earth and all bands would be on stage together at the end. Some footage still exists on RUclips, but there used to be way more. Thank you for sharing this.
I saw them with i Mother Earth. That was at the Manhattan Center! You had to take an elevator to get to the room the show was in! Those were the days!
That tour was Dream Theater, Queensrÿche and Fates Warning! Great tour
Saw them at the Chicago Theater. Was blown away by the tightness of this band. Went just to see Adrian Belew, opening TBH. LOL

I have been following DT for many years. I learned how to play most of their songs on the bass when when I was a teenager. I am now 34. The band is not the same. Without MP, they are missing a lot of their vibe. JLB has always been unreliable in live performances, but this latest performance is the worst I have ever heard. The time has come for him to be let go. A new singer can do the job that he is unable to do. It is very sad, but DT need to decide whether they still want to be taken seriously.
I wish I would sound like that in my 50's. I lost those notes a LONG time ago and I just turned 49. Been seeing DT since 1992. Of course he doesn't sound like that anymore. He sounds pretty great for a guy who has been singing this stuff for 30 years. Stop complaining and enjoy what they have accomplished. . . . . That being said . . . . yes, this is a very steep decline from just two years ago.
@TonysMusic1974 It's not even complaining. It's an objective truth. The guy can't hit simple easy notes anymore. It's not even his fault. That food poisoning incident sped up his vocal decline. But it's gotten so bad that I don't know if I even want to see them if he's gonna sound like that. It brings the songs down a lot
@@vosoryan stop with the "food poisoning" from 30 years ago. Seriously! That's not why he lost his voice. He's in his 50s singing like that for 35 years. It happens!
@TonysMusic1974 Okay most singers do NOT decline this much. His technique was not even that bad. As for the food poisoning, that is absolutely the cause. But not the food poisoning itself, it's the fact that the doctors ordered him to rest for 6 months, and he went back to touring the next week and they barely ever took time off. The 1995 Japan show was a week or 2 after the incident, and that's the last time he ever sounded amazing. By 1996 you could already hear vocal damage. It wasn't the incident itself, but it was the fact that sang through the injury. It sped up the decline that would've happened slowly anyways. You can hear James himself talk about this in his interview on "The Charismatic Voice" from last year.
If it weren't for this incident, james today would probably sound like his 2008 self. He'd have declined a little bit, but he wouldn't be struggling to hit easy notes that the majority of beginner male singers can hit
@vosoryan I 100% disagree that an incident from 30 years ago caused the dramatic decline in the past 3 years. Last saw DT in 2017 and he sounded fine for a guy his age. Yes, less range than when he was 30 but stop using the "food poisoning" incident, even if James himself does (I watched the interview). He's in denial - and I am a massive fan of James.

What happened to Mangini's kit? Got super small (I like it but feels different)
the whole purpose of the giant kit was to be able to play portnoy's parts. Now there's not much pre-mangini material being played live so he doesn't need it anymore. He explained that in one of the interviews that he never really wanted to have it in the first place.
He also said that John Petrucci wanted him to downsize.

I was at the Cincy show. James sounded really off.😢 I don't think it was this bad, though.
Why is he STILL singing???
I have been a Big DT fan for years and years. But I struggle to listen to them now. And Thats because of JLB. Sad to say - out of tune - and The range is gone. He has contributed hugely to DT. But now it is time to step back. Before their image and performances are totally ruined.
Labrie is embarrassing. Ok, we simply passed the line. The band still play great, but they are forced to build up a setlist with the less demanding songs to sing and they are anyway destroyed by James. Time to insert new energy in the band and the singer the guys deserve.
James is really struggling. I feel for him. All the years with 3 hour shows take its toll. I think Dream Theater is really at a crossroads. They had to get Portnoy back to boost their popularity and get back record company backing so now I wonder if they will be forced to get a new singer as well. Or, if they will have James get his vocal issues addressed. The Portnoy comment was not a dig, either. I have heard this from more than one podcast. And he does just not have the abilities, as good as he is, to replicate Mangini’s parts.
he needs to work with a focal istrudter a bit. he still has the range, he just need aaome technique refinement out I'd all the thirds on the team, Darius Slay us definitely nit one l.
It’s so unreal how the band with some of the most talented musicians on the planet and arguably the biggest of the progressive metal bands has the absolute worst singer of them all.
It’s like if Freddie Mercury had Lil Wayne as his lead guitarist 🤷♂️
How can the rest of the band stand this a full tour, cant even listen one full set (I know they probably removed James from their inear years ago, but still...). Love you James, but please realize your limit and end this madness. Dont they ever listen back to their shows? My god.

I'm calling on all D.T.-Fans to boycott Dream-Theater Shows until they replace James L. with a new singer. This Madness must END!

James should use the autotune, there is nothing wrong with that when you can no longer offer a minimum of quality in live performance.
Agree, i remember in 2010-2012 era when people criticized him a lot for it. Idk if he used it at the time but at the end is what you say: this affects the quality of the live performance...
If he just transposed the notes to what he's actually comfortable with, and save a few key high notes here and there, for the most part no one would have a problem with it. He still sings well, he just needs to modify the songs to fit where he is!
They should've fired James years ago.

They really shouldn't play songs JLB can't sing anymore, or change the tuning of those songs in a more suiting key. This is embarrassing.
They just need a new singer, LaBrie clearly just can’t cut to any kind of standard anymore, without him DT would be much better
@@thewashateriawandererzayne4376 Yes. There’s definitely an argument to be made for that as well. Whenever DT come to where I live I’m just not that hyped, and that’s mostly because of JLB. Actually, I haven’t seen them at all since 2010 and my yearning for it decreases each passing year with the steady decline of his voice. They are and will always be in my top 5 bands ever, but I just can’t spend many hundreds of dollars just to witness him croak his way through old classics they way he does now.
@@alexandernilssonmusic I’ve never seen them live tbf, I live in the UK and I’ve only seen them live on video. The choices of their songs that they perform also have dropped, they rarely play any Train of Thought or Octavarium songs anymore, probably for the good tbf because JLB would just slaughter them. I love DT and always will, LaBrie is basically just the vocalist to Lars Ulrich, in his prime he was great but since then they both just lost their standards.
Please @dreamtheater, it's time to do a voice audition urgently! Fans who have been following DT for years are strongly disappointed....
