Excellent excellent excellent! I appreciate the truth behind the failed attempts then finding what actually works. These are the best and most trusted videos. Thank you for this.
We have one pecan tree... Great video! The squirrel's plant pecan seeds everywhere on our property and occasionally they grow but end up getting mowed! 🌱
Hmm. I have two neighbors with pecan trees. Not that I have room on my property, but I know several folk in the garden guru network who do have room. Thank you Juani! I will try to start some for my friends. Thank you. And so nice to meet you today. I enjoy your videos. Have watched several. ✌️☀️🌼
this was a great video , I am wondering where you get your pecans from , we dont have any trees around will it work with store bought ones ( we are in the USA) or do I need to find a tree ?
I've done a few pecans myself but I've never had one actually germinate while in the fridge. I just stick them in pots and they take forever to germinate... Which pecan varieties do you prefer?
This is so amazing, Juani. Will you sell the saplings eventually or are you starting a pecan grove? Pecans are my favorite nuts and I would love to grow them (they're on my list!).
Hello dear! I don't know how I missed your comment! We are actually planning on starting a pecan farm, we purchased land this year, we're getting the house that was on the property remodeled, hopefully we can move soon 😀, hope you have a great week!
Hi there and this is a very interesting video! Can pecan trees be grown in the desert if they're kept in the shade most of the time? Just curious... Thank you for sharing and God's blessings to you!
Wow! I am so excited about this. Thank you! Where I am is a bit cold for Pecans, though there is one in neighboring yard and occasionally has nuts. Your technique for testing viability of the nuts and then doing the stratification to activate them to germinate will work for other nut trees as well. I’m doing this right now with the Calycanthus, Carolina Sweet Shrub seeds. I’m helping some friends with their forest restoration project, and though Acorns don’t need much help germinating, some other Trees do and your technique will be helpful. 🤗🙏🏼
That's true, they drink a lot of water, wish me luck because the land we own does not have any water..... you have made some progress on your house, it's looking great!
Juani! I wasn’t expecting to see a pecan tree growing video! So awesome! 👏👏👏 You have been very successful with these and looks like something I want to try! Thanks for sharing! 😊👍❤️
It's been a fun project! I had some failures in the past, but this method is working, thank you so much for watching, looking forward to watching your videos!
Loved your video, Juani! Your 41 young pecan trees look vibrant and healthy - great job! Like you, I'm an experimenter, and I love fruit and nut trees. ☺️ In addition to my many olive trees and fruit trees, I'm also growing some nut trees. So far, I have almonds, hazelnuts, heartnuts, and pecans, and I'll be planting some butternuts in March. My pecans produced last summer, much to my surprise, as they're still relatively young (4/5yo). So delicious, but I had to race the squirrels for them! I have a Pawnee and a Lakota for successful cross-pollination. In another video, I think you mentioned grafting Pawnee onto your young trees. I'm curious - what is the rootstock variety of the nuts you're using to start these trees? -- Kim
As I hear about your garden I'm more and more impressed! You have such a wonderful variety of fruits and nuts, we started planting pecans with the plan to move to a larger piece of property when we retire, which will be in about 2 years, God willing, it's been a really fun project to see the pecan trees come to life. I've only been gardening for a few years and absolutely love it!!
@@juanisgarden5356 We have a lot in common! I've only been gardening about five years now, and I'm also planning to move (most likely) to a larger property in two or three years. ☺️
I put pecans in water for 7 hours. None sank as u mentioned. Did it again with a second batch, and again none sank. Also, why not just plant straight into the soil to begin with?
My pecans were in water for about 8 days, the ones that stay on top are not viable. I tried planting straight into the dirt and failed. This is what worked for me.
Hi! I just identified some leaves from plants that appeared out of nowhere in my front yard - four of them and they are growing very quickly - identified on a plant identifier app as pecan trees. Is this possible? I am in Northern California. The leaf, with its pointed tip and serrated edges, looks exactly like the leaf of the pecan tree in photos. I have no idea why these trees would be going growing here except that I did feed pecans to wild turkeys for a while a few years back. Any ideas? Thanks
Hello! It's possible, if some of the pecan got buried into the soil, they may have rooted. They can produce fruit within 5 to 7 years, so unfortunately it will be a while before you can confirm it. Greetings from Texas!❤
Congratulations for the excellent video Juani, a lot of success, like! Thanks!

Sorry to hear that!
Neat, good to know that the pecan has to be cold stratified to germinate. I didn’t know about grafting them either. Very informative Juani!
I'm very excited to see what happens this year as I transplant them to 5 gallon containers! Thank you so much for your watching!

How long does do the pecans usually soak before sinking to determine viable seeds?
It took me about a week.
