- Basil Fawlty is back. 35 years after he last prowled the Reception area of Fawlty Towers, John Cleese’s legendary comedy creation has returned to our screens for Specsavers.
In Fawlty Car, it’s clear the present-day Basil hasn’t lost his notorious ability to self-destruct spectacularly when events conspire against him. Throw in a should’ve gone to Specsavers twist (Fawlty eyesight?) and you have an irresistible comedy cocktail leading to inevitably calamitous results.

Wow even at 76 John Cleese is still perfect. This really does feel like Basil Fawlty and not just Cleese phoning it in.

Synbious Yeah, re-watching it it does feel like a bit of a cash grab tbh. Like, Cleese is still great and all but this does feel like a bit of a paycheck sort of thing.
Fawlty Towers is definitely one of the best comedic shows Britain ever produced.

Even at 83 years old which is where John Cleese is currently at now he’s always been funny especially in the tv show Fawlty towers

Well, I don’t know. I mean he still does workouts at home, and it wasn’t a long distance so who knows? I mean look at kiss or The Rolling Stones on Stage. It is possible to be pretty fit at that age

+Paul Gregroy And one of the most interesting things about Fawlty Towers is the fact that there were so few of them ever made. I think there were only twelve episodes. Those six hours of TV had an amazing influence on TV comedy.
God this was so good. Felt exactly like Basil Fawlty, John Cleese hasn't lost his touch at all. This might be the only time ever I didn't want an ad to end!

Not only a brilliant comedy writer, but one of the greatest physical comedy actors of all time. Easily up there with Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and Curly Howard.
I work in a hospital and had fun viewing this in one of the waiting rooms with a patient.
