I would say that the thin blue line, father ted and the entire black adder series, aswell as the Mitchell and Webb look, aswell as the Henry Enfield series, aswell as the a bit of fry and lauriel are also pretty good. The scene "Judge me not" is IMO one of the best ones.
I may be a simple American born in 1991, but I love this show. This show, along with "Are You Being Served?" is some of the best of 1970s British comedy.
So many likes for an inaccurate quote lol, I love this scene so allow me... Other Lady: “Uh, excuse me.” Sybil: “Yes?” Other Lady: “Do you think we could cancel our fruit salads?” Sybil: “Well, it's a little tricky, chef's just opened the tin." Other Lady: “Oh.” Doris: “Never mind. I'm sure it'll be very nice, thank you.”
I remember seeing these for the first time on TV back in the early 1980's and laughing so hard I was in tears and gasping for air.One of the funniest shows of all time.
It's very funny. But it doesn't seem historically accurate. I googled the subject and found that Hitler took over two other countries and a couple of other regions before invading Poland, but I guess those don't count because the other countries surrendered (even though one had an army of one million men)? Is it an act of war if one side gives up without a shot? If yes, I suggest WW2 started in 1938, and perhaps even in 1936. Hey, it's the internet, so I'm entitled to my opinion.
@@mattsmith1518 I think it was 9 days after. But it sounds like you are agreeing with my crazy proposition that invading a country with a massive army isn't an act of war if the smaller army doesn't fight back. I disagree with you. I think if you invade with overwhelming force and aren't wanted there it is an act of war. But this is just my opinion.
@@mattsmith1518 That's an argument. But what would you say if one side called it a war but the other side didn't? For example, in the Korean conflict, North Korea called it a war, but the United States called it a Police Action. As wikipedia says, "In the US, the war was initially described by President Harry S Truman as a "police action" as the United States never formally declared war on its opponents and the operation was conducted under the auspices of the United Nations." So who gets to decide if something is a "war"? The leaders at the time? Or historians? I would say historians are less biased and more accurate. And I would say that historians should say WW2 really started in 1938 when Hitler started invading countries that didn't want to be invaded.
@@mattsmith1518 Ok, I'll stop. I guess I could have been a little nicer, (sorry) but as arguments go it was quite friendly between us. Most discussions on the internet are very uncivil. We did okay. We used logic more than emotions. I wish you well, and once again sorry if I came across as argumentative.
Fawlty Towers was, in my estimation, the most consistently hilarious show I've ever seen. However, it does not come off well in these short clips. In order to truly appreciate the humor, you have to be familiar with the characters. Only 12 episodes of the show were ever produced, so it is well worth the effort to seek them out and watch the entire series. Believe me, you'll be glad you did"|!
@@cov9290 I think, perhaps, people of Canada and America may have to know John Cleese from Monty Python to find it funny, and also understand British humour. It is my favourite sit com ever !!!!

They used to air them on PBS a lot back then. I remember my Dad laughing harder than I ever saw him laugh again!
I think the best moment in the Hotel Inspectors episode is when they throw out the moustached guy in quite the rough manner, just when three other people come into the hotel. Then, Basil greets them, asking if he can help, grinning happily for a moment, just before realising, that they are the actual inspectors and the scene ends with a frozen frame of him jumping back, screaming in terror. That was funny as hell.
The Deaf Women only a honourable mention????????????? Yes the German episode is probably the best but Communication Problems is definitely one of the funniest of them all. Back when the show was first on, my sister and I talked my mom into watching FAWLTY TOWERS. It was the GOURMET NIGHT episode and, when Basil started to beat the car with a sapling, she laughed so hard she fell over backwards.

this must have been a really tough list, since Fawlty Towers is absolute comic perfection. However, I have to speak up for two bits that were left off the list, which are two of the most hilarious bits of dialogue and exchange I think ever written in comedy. First is the scene where Basil is attempting to tell Manuel that "he knows nothing" about the horse bet he made in the episode "Communication Problems" (mentioned in this video as the deaf guest). The exchange of trying to explain to Manuel that he shouldn't say anything about the horse is hilarious. It's on youtube, search "fawlty towers i know nothing". Second is when the burglar alarm goes off in the germans episode, and basil has to explain to guests, who all enter the lobby at different points in the conversation, that the fire drill hasn't started yet. one of his classic lines...."i don't know why we bother, we should let you all BURN!" HAHAHA.
It's difficult and unfair to even attempt to make a "top moments" compilation because this entire show is so, so brilliant! The entire format was made to be flawlessly funny; they spent weeks writing episodes and only made a total of 12 in order to not compromise the quality. My "top moments" compilation would just be a marathon of all 12 episodes! haha
What I found amazing is that there was four years between season 1 and season 2. John and Connie had been going through a divorce and only realized that they could do a second season because , even though they had divorced, could still write great material together. John is not backward in coming forward about the fact that Connie was brilliant at writing comedy.
@@Scottie_S What I find amazing is that Connie Booth is an American, she wrote at least 50% of the shows, probably 60%, and people still call it "British Comedy." I would call it American comedy at its best.
@@TheNameOfJesus There's nothing American to the humour in Fawlty Towers. Just because Connie Booth wrote a lot of it, doesn't mean it belongs in an American oeuvre.
One of my favourite comedy shows ever. I've watched this show for years & I never gets old. Even after watching this I cannot stop laughing. Fawlty Towers is one of the best comedy shows ever, John Cleese is incredibly hilarious.
Andrew Sachs simply brilliant what pleasure he has given to generations with the character of Manuel an essential cog in the wheel of Faulty Towers. RIP
Andrew Sachs is brilliant as the English defective Spanish waiter. In actuality, he speaks with a highly proper upper class English accent in real life.
There were two legendary things missing: From "the kipper and the corpse" the glorious line "I'm a doctor and I want my sausages" - one of the best lines ever in TV history. And from "the hotel inspectors" the closing scene - his shocked realization that the three blokes who had just see him frogmarch a guest out were the actual hotel inspectors.
The test of true comedy genius....I've seen all episodes a hundred times, I know the dialogue by heart and yet I'm still in comedic tears. Brilliant and if you don't agree, you're all toffey nosed snobs
Communication Problems is definitely my favourite episode. Should have gotten more than a mention in my opinion. I used to love watching it with my Dad, so it reminds me of how many times we saw it, yet still laughed so much! I also got given it by Cancer Research UK after volunteering there and trying to buy the VHS at the end of my placement, so it helps me remember that too!
The ending of "The Hotel Inspectors" was probably the funniest part of the episode. Basil: "Good afternoon, gentlemen. And what can I do for you three gentlemen?" *Realizes who they are* "AAARGH!!!"
This is my favourite show of all time. I have 2 special edition DVD box sets, i`ve watch every single episode over a 100 times, i have the scripts and i know all the lines by heart. I don`t agree with the list but i`m not writing this to say my personal top 10 Fawlty Towers Moments, i`m just writing to say that i think it`s wonderfull what you did. Thank you so much to mention Fawlty Towers and to show it to so many people. For a lot of viewers this was the first time they`ve seen or heard of this show. Thank you for that.
This moment seems underrated but I just can't stop laughing at the builders episode where Fawlty trips over the gnome and you see him reappear from behind the desk and says "what is this?!!!"
When the phone rings after the fire drill and he screams"will you leave it" is comedy genius, the tension builds up so well and you can literally feel his stress
+Benalah Sombke Yup, can't believe this didn't make the cut, first time I saw the following exchange almost burst a blood vessel laughing! (_I had this kicking around so_....): Manuel, could you lend Mrs.Richards your assistance in connection with her reservation? Now I've reserved a very quiet room with a bath and a sea view. I specifically asked for a sea view in my written confirmation, so please make sure I have it. Que? What? Que? K? Si. C? "KC"? "KC"? What are you trying to say? No, no, no, no. Que: What. K-watt? Si.Que what. C. K. Watt? Yes! Who is C.K. Watt? Que? Is he the manager, Mr. Watt? Manaher! He is? Ah, Mr. Fawlty! What? Fawlty! What are you talking about, you silly little man? What is going on here? I ask him for my room, and he tells me the manager's a Mr. Watt, aged 40. No.No, no. Faw-lty. "Faulty"? What's wrong with him? It's all right, Mrs. Richards. He's from Barcelona. The manager's from Barcelona? No, no, no. He's from Swanage......

An impossible task well done. Quite honestly, one of the best-written shows of all time. To quote the Psychologist, "There's enough there for an entire conference."
Mrs Richards is the second best episode after the germans, the whole episode is hilarious. I asked for a room with a view, you have a view. We'll its not good enough. That is Torquay madam, can I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window, the hanging gardens of Babylon, Kracitow erupting, herds of wilderbeasts sweeping majesticly? I expect to see the sea, you can see the sea its over there between the land and the sky!! ha ha. Is this a piece of your brain?? This is mine!! ha ha, that defo the 2nd best episode.
What's remarkable about The Germans is that it also contains the talking moose (err- Canadian I think, major), both Sybil and Fawlty in hospital (I'm sorry, I thought there was a dog in here) and the fire alarm scene. (it's a semitone higher) It has to be the best sitcom episode of all time.
Ändert leider nichts an meinem erbärmlichen Französisch.
You'd have a hard time finding even ONE German who wouldn't find this funny... Germany was the first non-English speaking nation to have a Python fanclub! Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
This is the best comedy sitcom of all times, pure classic, Comedy at its best level. I remember watching this show, and laughing so much, my belly hurted like hell. However this deserves to be watched on context, not in small clips. People just wouldnt understand the comedy without context. And this type of comedy is all about context. My favorite episode, is when the Doctor dies over night, and they try to hide the body from the other hotel Guests. The "NOT mention the war!!" scenes is just briliant. Plus Connie Booth was so Hot at the time. ( when she was young... lol )
The moose head will always hold a special place in my heart. Major thinking the moose head is talking when it's actually Manuel. "I can speak English...I learned it from a book."
10: The English Lord 9: The Hidden Door 8: The Health Inspection 7: The Lie 6: Basil Feels Exposed 5: Preferential Treatment 4: Car Troubles 3: The Dead Guest 2: Imaginary Chef 1: Hitler Walk
Basil and the Rat, The Germans, The Kipper and The Corpse, Communication Problems and Gourmet Night are in my opinion the best episodes of this one of a kind series. That improvised attack on his car with a tree branch amongst other situations are just too good.
My favorite scene occurs in "The Psychiatrist" when the young, buxom girl comes to stay. Basil, while showing the girl her room, discovers the bathroom light bulb is not working. He reaches around to try the light switch, which is just outside the bathroom door. The girl happens to be standing where the light switch is located, doing some stretches after a long trip. As Basil reaches around for the switch, he accidentally finds himself fondling the girls breast. Of course Sybil walks in at the worst possible moment!
It's not the walk that makes the diner scene in The Germans funny, it's the line right before that. The German: Will you stop talking about the war! Basil: Me? You started it. The German: We did not start it. Basil: Yes you did, you invaded Poland.
They only made 12 episodes! 1975 was their first season in 1979 was their 2 season! A four year break between 2 seasons I hate how British channels run their tv shows when their so much better than american tv!
A lot of short-lived comedy shows end when they do because the creators of the show often feel that they've done all they can do without jumping the shark and bleeding the show dry. "Fawlty Towers" may have had only twelve episodes, but every single one is as funny as the last; there isn't a single bad episode (in my opinion). So most of the time, short-lived comedy shows are often a hell of a lot funnier than ones that never seem to end. *cough* Big Bang Theory *cough* By the way, any favourite "Fawlty Towers" episodes? Mine's probably either "The Germans" or "Communication Problems".
Steve Morrison Fair enough. Anyway, just gave you a possible reason why a lot of British shows are either really short or have long breaks. Hope it helped (in at least someway).
John Cleese at his FINEST. I am glad that Britcoms are getting some love, as they are more 'wholesome' than the US shows, which are made to appeal to the masses. I wished that this show ran for a few more seasons, but I guess it was best they did this, that way they don't ruin the brand, by milking it. Much like The Office UK, where it was actually a decent show, compared to the bastardized, unfunny, milked-beyond-oblivion US version.
Hands down the best sitcom of all time. These clips don't do it justice.
It's sad how a number of people have never even heard of it.
Kiddies around my age (14) probably won't remember a brilliant sitcom like this nowadays.

@@TheNameOfJesus people, eh?
@@TheNameOfJesus There's nothing American to the humour in Fawlty Towers. Just because Connie Booth wrote a lot of it, doesn't mean it belongs in an American oeuvre.
It really is. I have literally seen the whole box set, dozens and dozens of times.
Maybe I shouldn't have admitted to that? I love Fawlty Towers!
One of my favourite comedy shows ever. I've watched this show for years & I never gets old. Even after watching this I cannot stop laughing. Fawlty Towers is one of the best comedy shows ever, John Cleese is incredibly hilarious.
"BASIL!!!"
You always knew he was in trouble bit his head off with that one word.
This is most intelligent show ever.
A gin and orange a lemon squash and a scotch and water please
Fran MC He's probably still waiting for that drink at this very moment.
Hanuvanara Haha yeah most probably
Fran MC Nah, he gets it during the credits, best part of the episode.
RIGHT!!!!!
A gin and orange a lemon squash and a scotch and water walked into a hotel ....
There were two legendary things missing:
From "the kipper and the corpse" the glorious line "I'm a doctor and I want my sausages" - one of the best lines ever in TV history.
And from "the hotel inspectors" the closing scene - his shocked realization that the three blokes who had just see him frogmarch a guest out were the actual hotel inspectors.
Only lasted for 14 episodes yet so many memorable scenes not just for Fawlty Towers, but tv comedy in general.
A show with only 14 episodes is a lot more memorable than two and a half men, a show that has been going on for nine seasons or something.
12, actually.
Rating: 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I miss RUclips star ratings
He is the master of silly walks=)
The test of true comedy genius....I've seen all episodes a hundred times, I know the dialogue by heart and yet I'm still in comedic tears. Brilliant and if you don't agree, you're all toffey nosed snobs
The fire drill was the best moment of them all
My favourite quote; "WERE HAVING IT!!!" **slams phone**
My favorite part is when Basil shoves Manuel back into the burning kitchen.
Bentonic XD that part was also one of my favourites.
Boom Bang Pow The talking moose as well was really gut-bustingly funny
*We're* sorry had to do it :)
I think you nailed it. All my faves are in that list.
Basil:
"Good afternoon, gentlemen. And what can I do for you three gentlemen?"
*Realizes who they are*
"AAARGH!!!"
Andrew Sachs " Manuel " R:I:P
Cleese commented that Andrew Sachs was no less skilled comedically speaking and that they often had great verbal "tennis matches".
hehe that i can and will belive :) an woude have been fun to watch :)
Marko Barrows
One of the best Episodes! "Don't mention the war" LOL
John Cleese - Legend
I love the commentaries of these Top tens. She does it so beautifully!
Do we really need an explanation???
This is my favourite show of all time. I have 2 special edition DVD box sets, i`ve watch every single episode over a 100 times, i have the scripts and i know all the lines by heart. I don`t agree with the list but i`m not writing this to say my personal top 10 Fawlty Towers Moments, i`m just writing to say that i think it`s wonderfull what you did. Thank you so much to mention Fawlty Towers and to show it to so many people. For a lot of viewers this was the first time they`ve seen or heard of this show. Thank you for that.
Communication Problems is one of my favourite episodes but nothing beats The Germans
I also like the kippper and the corpse and Gourmet Night.
How do you not have the fire drill episode on this list 😂😂😂
I love the episode where the man thinks the moose head is talking
That's the same as #1 pick on here.
same here. the major was astounding
Major Gowen is the best. (And German women are good card players.)
***** I took her to see India....at the Oval! Classic Major!
thanks for the like Lily - I love animals too
This moment seems underrated but I just can't stop laughing at the builders episode where Fawlty trips over the gnome and you see him reappear from behind the desk and says "what is this?!!!"
If the Germans aren't #1, I'm suing WatchMojo.
the deaf guest wasnt in the actually list, therefore im still suing
Was there ever any doubt?
Don't mention the war!!
you started it.
no we didn't.
yes you did, you invaded poland
(Gulp) You just mention it!
When the phone rings after the fire drill and he screams"will you leave it" is comedy genius, the tension builds up so well and you can literally feel his stress
"Communication Problems" is the best episode.
+Benaiah Sombke " The Hotel Inspectors ".
+Benaiah Sombke The Germans or Kipper and the Corpse!
"Basil the rat"
+Benalah Sombke Yup, can't believe this didn't make the cut, first time I saw the following exchange almost burst a blood vessel laughing! (_I had this kicking around so_....):
Manuel, could you lend Mrs.Richards your assistance in connection with her reservation?
Now I've reserved a very quiet room with a bath and a sea view.
I specifically asked for a sea view in my written confirmation, so please make sure I have it.
Que?
What?
Que?
K?
Si.
C? "KC"? "KC"? What are you trying to say?
No, no, no, no. Que: What.
K-watt?
Si.Que what.
C. K. Watt?
Yes!
Who is C.K. Watt?
Que?
Is he the manager, Mr. Watt?
Manaher!
He is?
Ah, Mr. Fawlty!
What?
Fawlty!
What are you talking about, you silly little man? What is going on here? I ask him for my room, and he tells me the manager's a Mr. Watt, aged 40.
No.No, no. Faw-lty.
"Faulty"? What's wrong with him?
It's all right, Mrs. Richards. He's from Barcelona.
The manager's from Barcelona?
No, no, no. He's from Swanage......
"The Builders"? Anyone?
Love this list, and that someone actually considered it! One of my few all time favorite shows! Amazed that they couldn't make more than the 12 episodes. A true clclassic! Thanks! You pretty much nailed the list, i lol at every clip here. ..

An impossible task well done. Quite honestly, one of the best-written shows of all time. To quote the Psychologist, "There's enough there for an entire conference."
There is too much butter on those trays, no no no, UNOS DOS TRES
+Rory Hossell *snicker* Love that one.
Just genius isnt it !
Frasier, Taxi and Fawlty Towers are the best sitcoms of all time, I consider.
Deadpool made a Fawlty Towers nod in the movie when he asks Ajax his name. I was the only one in the theater who got the joke. :-P
+Diggy22 same here;) what a movie!
+Diggy22 Yup, me too. I was the only one to burst out laughing and got some confused looks... :D
I was most impressed by that as well made me laugh out loud, and for once they did not use Mr bloody Bean
I love deadpool lol
Omg yeah that made me laugh so hard
Got it as well, when I first saw it! A disgrace that so many people don't even know who Basil Fawlty is.
the best moments of Fawlty Towers, every single episode, every second of each episode
German: "you started it"
Mr. Fawlty: "you started it. you invaded Poland."
"You ponce in here expecting to be waited on hand and foot.. Well, I'm trying to run a hotel here!!" Absolutely class :) This show never gets old.
Basil: Everything should be fine as long as you don't mention the war. I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it.
The deaf woman cracks me up ''What!'' but then again every episode was gold
(it's a semitone higher)
It has to be the best sitcom episode of all time.
I guess there are seven Germans who do not think the number one pick is funny.
Just for the record, I am not one of them. I loved that episode and I am from Berlin.
*****
Ändert leider nichts an meinem erbärmlichen Französisch.
***** ...nice...
(Don't mention the war)
You'd have a hard time finding even ONE German who wouldn't find this funny... Germany was the first non-English speaking nation to have a Python fanclub! Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
OMG this is a very good collection, one of the best shows ever to hit the airwaves!
one of the best comedies ever, let alone british comedies...few things tickle my funny bone more than Andrew Sachs, rest in peace!
He has such an iconic yell. Easily recognizable.
( when she was young... lol )
Even after 40 years this show is still FUNNY AS FUCK
Apparently the tree branch was an improvisation he was just told to beat the car and he spotted a branch lol
this show still holds up, it's that awesome
The funniest part was finding the bricks in his briefcase in "A TOUCH OF CLASS." How Basil reacted... Show that part!
The moose head will always hold a special place in my heart. Major thinking the moose head is talking when it's actually Manuel. "I can speak English...I learned it from a book."
“You started it!!”
“No we didn’t?!”
“YeS yOu DiD yOu InVaDeD pOlAnD!!!!!!!!”
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 honestly best bit of The Germans episode!
10: The English Lord
9: The Hidden Door
8: The Health Inspection
7: The Lie
6: Basil Feels Exposed
5: Preferential Treatment
4: Car Troubles
3: The Dead Guest
2: Imaginary Chef
1: Hitler Walk
Thanks
One of the best comedians ever.
*cough* Big Bang Theory *cough*
By the way, any favourite "Fawlty Towers" episodes? Mine's probably either "The Germans" or "Communication Problems".
Chux Diaz Don't quite know how to respond to that...
SSS (Triple S) there is no good way to
Steve Morrison Fair enough. Anyway, just gave you a possible reason why a lot of British shows are either really short or have long breaks. Hope it helped (in at least someway).
SSS (Triple S) thanks
I never thought I would find a Top 10 of this amazing sitcom!
My fave Fawlty Towers moment is when he screams at the deaf woman, after convincing her to turn up her hearing aid to max.
