16:44 A cow is not more likely to do you in as a shark. You are more likely to be killed by a cow than a shark, but in any particular interaction you have with a particular cow, it is MUCH less likely to result in your death than an interaction you have with a shark. The reason cows kill more people is because people are thousands or millions of times more likely to be interacting with cows at any given time.

I'd wager cows have to deal with a greater proportion of aggrivatingly stupid people.

I spend hundreds of hours each year swimming or surfing in areas with moderately aggressive sharks, and have never interacted with a cow except over/through a fence - for a lifetime total of about 2 minutes.

Actually that's NOT entirely accurate. A shark will almost always kill a human by accident. Humans lolling about on the surface can only be seen in silhouette and because of their inferior swimming ability they can be mistaken for an injured seal or other creature. The shark then does it's usual rising attack and only realises after the first bite that this isn't it's expected prey. By then the damage can be fatal. But there are many victims who have survived with scars or missing limbs because the shark wasn't interested in eating them once it became clear they weren't on the usual menu. However, cows will kill people in anger during an attack either because they are stressed, feel threatened or are protecting their young. So, in summary, sharks mostly kill or maim humans by accident and cows usually kill or maim humans on purpose. Therefore cows are more dangerous than sharks as a matter of intent.

You've never been chased through a field by a herd of curious cows.
I have. It was not a fun experience. I was riding my bike along country paths outside Bristol. I hopped over a stile into a field that was empty except for a herd of cows down the far end. The footpath just ran across the top of the field to another stile on the far side - maybe 200 metres in total. By the time I was halfway across all the cows were charging towards me as fast as they could. I only just made it over the second stile by the time they caught up to me.
A field of bulls on the other hand will just watch you ride past.

That viewpoint, at the end took was still prevalent in the 70s. My mum died when I was 6 and there was enormous pressure on him to place me in care. My older brother (15) and sister (17) were considered old enough. Though my brother was considered too. Luckily he resisted the pressure. A single parent family, with the parent being male was still unusual back then. We were something of an oddity. It was the other side of the sexism coin. Child raising, cooking, housekeeping etc were considered to be female roles and girls were still taught those things in schools, though it was slowly dying out. The flipside, for men, was that they were seen as not being any good of those things. A lighter burden to bear, generally speaking but upon the death of a mother, it would come into focus.

At the time this film was big.
It was shown by General Cinema across their theater chain and spent about a 6 months at prestige locations with another 6 at lower end ones then it spent years at the art house ones.
As it was foreign it was not subject to the same agreements between theater companies and various distributors so enjoyed a longer run.
It was also a top rental at video stores and the provided promotionals were not reclaimed so standees and posters were common decorations in many stores for their foreign sections.
It was what one would call viral by todays speak.
This film opened up the American mainstream for European films and started a trend that saw foreign films become trendy again.
Sorry for my rant on your video earlier.
This week alone on RUclips I have heard Excalibur described as a "forgotten cult film", Ken Russell called an unknown director, and been told that no one has ever heard of the films "They Live" and "Reanimator".
So I guess that got me ranty.
I have managed a major market movie theater, worked as a screener for GCC, run a popular video store in Hollywood, and worked in films and television so tend to have some knowledge that isn't the common which leaves me more likely to object to things.
But yeah, this film was big and completely changed peoples veiwing habits and tastes as well as being given extra life due to the whole "indie" film trend in the 90's.
As a side note this was one of the films I actual screened and reviewed myself for the theater chain then recommend, so I guess I also have skin in the game=)
