From a engineering perspective, wonder how we can help reduce the heat? Once we decase this thing we could add some small heat sinks that have the proper fins like on rasberry pi's. I am more interested in decasing to get a proper heat solution than decasing for the weight. I want to put an 03 air unit in a RC plane but in texas it is about 107 degrees when I fly sometimes. So when I am taxing the plane on the field do not want it to overheat. Be nice to have a small fan blowing on the correct heat sink. All this thermal paste looks like a bad design right? Like it cannot be transferring heat very effectively with globs of thick paste.
This is great Dax, looking forward to an stl file to hold all of this. Converting the original Mobigital7 seems inevitable after watching this and your flight videos.
As I was researching naked vista's for my phantom hd 2.5 build.. the thought crossed my mind.. "I wonder if it's possible with an 03" ..and now I'm here
Unfortunately, there aren’t any available yet. The lens just pops off but no replacements yet. You’ll have to buy a new camera and save the damaged one until they release aftermarket lenses. I think they will.
I haven’t tried it, but it seems like if you have the camera stripped down you could replace the entire lens with any lens that covers the width of the sensor if you just get the focusing the right distance. (I.e a a small lens like one from a GoPro hero or vista polar cam, etc.). You can measure the infinity focus distance of the lens by holding the lens up to a white piece of paper in front of a window and move it in and out from the paper until the image comes into sharp focus, and then measure that distance. A bit tricky to measure on a lens this small… but easier than finding a replacement lens for the 03 ;) then just mount it that distance from the sensor….
Hi. I need some help, maybe you have encountered this. The SD Card on the O3 Unir is not recording. It only records on Goggles. Tried everything, changed cards, updated. Nothing works. Any idea how to solve the problem ? Thanks
Excellent video, Thanks for sharing this! Any idea on what the weight savings is and if there are any heat dissipation issues with conformal coating it?
I wonder how the range is after all the shielding was removed. Now the buck converter sits on top of the receiver circuit without any shielding. As a electrical engineer how has spent years in the EMC chamber, this really hurts :D But for a whoop on short range it might be fine ;)
Watching your video is very useful for me. Actually, I broke my O3 camera housing front lip (upper extruding part). So, I cannot install ND filter. If you don't need disassembled housing, could you sell the housing for me? I'll wait your reply. Thank you. 🙂
Somebody should scrape some of that thermal past off and test it on a computer CPU to see how it actually performs in comparison to the PC stuff we all know about.
thanks for sharing, so you record everything with internal memory. Not a bad idea to save weight.
You bet! There is plenty of room for 4min flights.
I always saw you did this before flywoo came out with it. Would you know if conformal coating and attaching a raspberry pi heat sink would be optimal?
Conformal is completely safe. I’ve done it myself.
I can’t see where a pi heatsink would hurt in anyway.
Amazing dude, you got balls and brains

Well done. Thanks
Thanks for making this. Big 👍👍👍👍👍
My pleasure 😊
Awesome work, dude! Pretty interesting process indeed! 😃
Thanks for all the tips!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And merry Christmas!
This is f'ing brilliant! Thank you so much for making this! 🙏🙏🙏
Dude its a blast to fly!

I'm building a sub250g freestyle quad and I was thinking I wonder if anyone's done this already... and now I'm also here
How is the heat dissipation after removing all of that? I heard these units get a lot hotter than the vistas
Not bad. Just arm and start flying. You have about 45 secs before it overheats.
@@DaxNealFPV 45 seconds on the bench right? LOL, or is that the amount of flight time you get before it overheats
@@TechTimeElectronics doesn’t overheat when flying. Just when sitting still.
ive done this to the caddx air unit and 99% alcohol works best but i usually would just submerge the boards in a bath while i scrubbed the paste off
Hi dax, i find just by brushing off the thermal paste with a tooth brush without alcohol, comes off easier and cleaner.
Great tip, thank you!
what lens do I get to replace broken one on 03 unit ? thanks great vid

@@DaxNealFPV yea I crashed on a dirt road rock caught lens now a smudge left corner DJI so slow releasing stuff but great stuff iiieeerrr

If you set the AU to record from the goggles menu and it is not, then I would send it in for a repair.

You shave off half the weight and if you treat it like its an analog vtx, you will be fine.
What the situation with the antenna? Can you take that apart?
I tried and damaged the internal ribbon antenna. It’s pretty delicate and too long for a whoop in the end.
@@DaxNealFPV I’m trying to figure out how an antenna can be dual polarized
Hi, what is the reason to remove emi shields? theyare like gram :)
A gram is a lot, so is all of the thermal paste under them.
I wonder how the range is after all the shielding was removed. Now the buck converter sits on top of the receiver circuit without any shielding. As a electrical engineer how has spent years in the EMC chamber, this really hurts :D But for a whoop on short range it might be fine ;)
Man so far, as far as a 2s can take you!
Any recommendations to improve the shielding? Maybe some electrical tape between the layers?
@mbug7973 I use Kapton Tape. Not sure how well it works. But I don't want to put copper on circuit boards lol
@@divingfalconfpv4602 it does nothing, no positive effect, no negative effect. You need metal for emf shielding
Really wanna comformal coat one of my 03's, but worried it will trap heat and cause thermal shutdown. Any thoughts on this?
I will not add any risk. The o3 gets hit quick either way.
Hello, any problems with temperature of o3 naked? work without not problems??
Just treat it like an analog vtx. Arm and fly within 45 seconds.

brother email me and I will get you taken care of.
I would remove the top and bottom cover first before detaching the ribbon cable.
but recording isn't possible??
It has internal storage.
Bro, If you got the camera case just laying around collecting dust, Ill happily pay you to ship it to me.

you think dji does not have access to solid high performance thermal paste but uses chewing gum instead? why would you challenge that lol
