I keep thinking that Sean has the voice that John Lennon wanted to have. Such clarity and pureness. Already love early pink Floyd so I'm happy to find this today!
There are some superficial similarities but musically they are pretty different. John was all about tight structures and powerful hooks where Sean appears more into long meandering sections and jammy stuff.
@@keithgraham8588 Now that`s just stupid my friend. Everyone has their own taste in music, plus that Vovoid cover doesn`t sound too far from the original, the vocalist just sings in a different tone and there`s a little more drums in it. If Syd Barret`s version is hot garbage then so is that one.
Cosmic! I loves me some psychedelia, and this here is it. I'm afraid I'm too old to trip but I'd imagine this to really generate some wicked eyelid movies under that influence. I came of age on "Cid" (and Pink Floyd bootlegs of "Saucerful or Secrets"). This does the Floyd of those times real honor.
I love so much the creativity and approach of Les with the vintage basses. This EKO Bass sounds so wet, so thin small and hollow, empty, but with alot of overtones, the flat strings + the tone he gets and how he plays brings out alot of plasticity and a wet sound. Sounds almost like the modern Uke Basses with rubber strings. And if you think about it, it's to cover Pink Floyd, and a song that was from the 60's. It has absolutely everything in favor of making sense to me, the tone, the approach. It's so alien but fits so well. Thank you Les, thank you for making something so unique and that makes so much sense. Also, sounds amazing, i bet it live must be a gift from heaven to embrace all these textures. Great stuff.
I usually don't like when people cover Syd Barrett because most people aren't able to capture Syd's brilliance, but this is the best cover of Astronomy Domine I have ever heard. They didn't do a carbon copy of the song, yet they also didn't overplay and make it too progressive or technical. Syd wasn't the best conventional guitarist, but he made up for this by creating his own unique style and sound. Some of my favorite guitarists like Denny Dias, Zappa, and Page, could play circles around Syd, but there's just something about Syd that makes him my all-time favorite.
As far as I'm concerned, this is THE definitive cover version of Astronomy Domine. On top of the lovely vocal harmonies from Sean and Les, and a stellar drum performance, Sean's guitar solo is a masterpiece. So melodic, so beautiful.
I will have to upload the tribute band, The Machine, from their late 90s recording titled Live In New York. Holy shit.... It's cranked to 11 and they kill it. This is the 2nd best I've heard though, and I love les.
I wonder what Les Claypool thinks about writing and hanging out with the genetic offspring of the greatest rock artist of all time. I wonder if it blows his mind.
I guarantee you more than half the crowd didn't know what they were listening to. Awesome version
If just less than half of the crowd knew what they were listening to, I'd be happy with that.
I bet you're right! Most aren't familiar with vintage (pre-DSOTM) Pink Floyd. You have to be a diehard Floydian.
Thank you Sean and Les for showing Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd
Syd Barrett lives on!
Man we live in the future a jonh lennon son do a cover of a Pink Floyd song are you kidding me? amazing
You're telling me I pink Floyd, Primus and Beatles fan here! Nearly shat myself when I found this, check out "south of reality" their new album
I kow bruh its just amazing im a big fan of barret it would be proud of this @@theflightlessbutdankkiwi3820
@@brandonhofmann5850 syd would not be proud,
@@akashaiz8815 not just any pink floyd song either .. a very early one from when they sounded alot more like something John Lennon would right

The music of Syd Barrett shines on...........well done.
sean even did the hand gestures syd barret did when singing "WOOOO OOOO OOO OO"
barret would be so proud of this
Yup! Notice that first thing.....thought to myself, "He's seen the video that Syd and the Floyd did."
Ahahahahahah yes
In my mind: Oh fuck John imitate Syd!
I would like to think that Syd would approve of this version.
R.I.P Syd Barrett & R.I.P Richard Wright
A acid trip with Syd Lennon!!
Magnificent rendition of this classic Pink Floyd song! And a very fine solo by Sean Lennon too!
I really like this collaboration.
Sean can shred for real.
Wow- Sean nailed that lead guitar part. Very impressive and a great surprise for me.
Way better guitarrist than the old man...
@@JJamesLow666 Better for us,but what about song writing..!??
@@JJamesLow666 why do you need to compare?
well, lennon did not miss the spirit of the song, by any means. i am impressed. he has his dads talent.
Connect to: Beatles, Syd Barrett's Floyd... Wow this is great!!! Even King Crimson's Court elsewhere on RUclips
Syd bysyd Court is also on their album.
There's a nod to the Beatles "Across the Universe" in Echos too.
Six years and I've never seen this? I'm digging out my old PF vinyl right now!
he's got that feeling! John and Syd must be proud of him! R.i.p John Lennon and Syd Barret!
This is the closest we will get between a John Lennon and Syd Barrett collaboration
I keep thinking that Sean has the voice that John Lennon wanted to have. Such clarity and pureness. Already love early pink Floyd so I'm happy to find this today!
you're kidding, right?
I saw them preform in hollywood and got in the theater just after they finished preforming this. I will never forgive myself.
Wow . I had no idea Sean was even in a band , or even knew he was a very good guitarist !😳😵💫😊
I’m impressed with Sean
Sean is like a modern era John!!! sound so similar and despite is an old song the innovative spirit is there...
There are some superficial similarities but musically they are pretty different. John was all about tight structures and powerful hooks where Sean appears more into long meandering sections and jammy stuff.
He's a much better guitarist than John ever was. Go Sean!
Syd would have to proud of this.
It’s so good.
Sean and Les
Are an Incredible duo.
This band just
Rips.
one of the best songs from "piper" still grooving
all, in "piper" is ... best ! :)
amazing cover.... this group is something special
An honourable and respectful cover of a classic. Nice job guys!
Wow this fucking RULES. My fave Floyd song and undoubtedly the best cover version i've heard.
John Lennon & Syd Barrett would be proud 🥲
i saw them live at Irving Plaza nyc, best show i have ever attended, and this is the best cover i have heard of this song.
clarese portofino voivod does a good version
Tommy Tucker they butcher the lyrics
Tommy Tucker
Theres no deepness in voivods. This version bringing us back to artistic era, a genuune psychedelic feel.
Well, Pink Floyd recorded Piper at the Gates of Dawn at the same time that The Beatles recorded Sgt Pepper. Maybe this was meant to happen.
My God... What a music project!!!!!! Wonderful
Nice version, hits nearly all the bits. You can tell, they are held by the spell, such respect is so correct.
I first heard the original in 1971, and it is a treasure to me. I love this version, it is reverent, and a fine tribute.
Have you heard the live version on ummagumma? That’s the best version in my opinion
What an awesome cover ! I love the lead that Sean plays...great tone
Sad more people aren't watching this.
The best thing that I've seen in a long time💜
It's too derivative and I don't have a phone.
I don't have a fucking phone xD @@Tri5te55a
I've had The Claypool Lennon Delirium stuck in my car CD player. Don't seem to mind.
Loving every second of This. Thanks Les ,Sean the whole band. Rad
I was fortunate enough to have seen them in concert in Hollywood.
Sean and Dweezil! Two of the luckiest kids in the world and made good use of it. Bravo!
You need massive steel balls to try and cover Astronomy Domine.
They definetly have the balls, and also the talent.
It’s not that hard to play
you need to listen to voivod cover of this song
yeah Voivod made the song listenable. Not going to lie, Syd Barrets Pink Floyd was hot garbage lol just a junkie making random noises.

Widespread panic used to tease it
Dare I say, I think John would have absolutely loved this and would be very proud
Killed it! I want to hear them do Corporal Kleg next!
heard this a few yrs. ago......now on headphones listening...gets better with age..
wooo sean is a great guitarrist!
james reinolds
Yeah i agree. That melodical progression... Damn its really hard to come up with that kinda dimensional imagination.
ricric villanueva not really, considering Barrett already laid out the concept and progression.
This is really great, ❤ and señor drummer, damn on the cans man!
Sid and John somehow live again through Sean and Les! Good Gods YES!!!
Damn Sean can actually shred!!!’ I dig it.
Oh my stars
I’m digging this
Sean is a great guitar player!
I'm not any good , but that was impressive.
I'm amazed. Didn't know this version. Astronomy Domine is my favorite Floyd song
Eternal masterpiece
Great cover smart movement..!Greetings from Greece
Awesome Again, Saw them In Seattle last year, Best Show Id ever seen in my entire life..
Outstanding Red Leader! This was like a dream come true! Loved every moment. Thanks for this. Top 5 Floyd songs easily.

The squeaking door will always squeak,
Two up, two down we'll never meet...
...At the man on the border
I do feel Sean is a bit of a musical moral compass for us.
What a brilliant cover!
Kudos. It's not easy to pull off a Syd Barrett cover and make it sound good.
I love Pink Floyd, and I admit this is the best rendition out there. Props to Lennon's son.
Try listening to Voi-vod’s version on the Nothingface album. That’s the best cover of that song I think I’ve ever listened to.

This is exactly why I bought my tickets
Excellent cover right up there with Voivod's!
Well done. One of my favorite songs ever.
The Floyd would be proud of this cover. It improves on the original

Voivod's version of it was great
It hasn't supplanted the original for me, but it is fantastic and executed with a rare level of professional care.

Syd Lennon? Yes, that will be my son's name

Is it just me or do Seans vocals sound treated ? Great performance, love the King Crimson/Barrett era Floyd covers
me too :,)
I think there’s a lo-fi delay on the vocals. I wouldn’t say treated, but definitely not just clean vocal.
It's an intentional effect. Sounds like a chorus and a fast delay.
Great cover !!!!
muito feliz em encontrar isso, pqp
This collaboration is huge but most people won't experience it
Superbe version. Beaucoup de talent !
