This group of young people have more talent than 95% of those that make the charts here in the UK. Their passion comes across as being very real and it’s more than just music to them, it's part of their heartbeat.
Shaye and Erika and Craig are always the greatest. A pleasant surprise is Chloe. Thank you so much for all the good music you have sent my way. I do tell my friends.
Ah , that great talent Shaye, she is such a musical talent, every instrument she plays is terrific. What a great, great talent. Keep up the terrific music.
It's great to be able to see Chloe playing and lifting our spirits while we are under quarantine from COVID-19 in April, 2020. Makes it easier to 'shelter in place' when enjoying her music. Thanks to RaoulDuke504 for posting this performance.
Late comment - this is one of my favourites. Craig, you just keep getting better and better. Compliments to every one especially Shaye, away from her usual instrument. Interesting to see the rapport bewteen Shaye and Craig, with Craig controlling the finish, but with Shaye's total agreement. Amazing.
Amused by your compliment to Shaye on not playing her usual instrument. Not so familiar to us in Tuba Skinny, but she has been playing piano since she was five - her mother is a professional jazz pianist and teacher. She is classically trained to concert level and only took up the cornet on moving to New Orleans following a music degree at NYU. You can also catch her playing accordion, violin and trombone on other videos.
@@phoebus007 I'd love to hear her playing the Moonlight Sonata: first of all as Beethoven wrote it, then all wonderfully jazzed up as only Tuba Skinny can.
Four terrific talents .. one fine performance !!!! When I see Shaye Cohn on piano in these, and elsewhere, I recognize those years of classical training - perfect erect posture, arms just the right height from the keys, hands arched and fingers open. (My wife Terry was a pianist.) Have I said 'thanks Randy ...'
What a gem. I came across Tuba Skinny a few weeks ago and became an instant fan. In these coronavirus days it's so refreshing to see and hear these talented people as a reminder of what normality looks like. Not all the band here on this occasion but the ensemble seems just right- someone commented on Shaye Cohn's upright posture, reminded me of Arthur Rubinstein the classical pianist.
'You Can Have My Husband But Please Don't Mess With My Man' is on Tuba Skinny's 2010 Album entitled ' Six Feet Down' - when they had no clarinet at all; but Alynda Lee Segarra and Kiowa Wells were prominent on strings. It was composed in 1960 by Dorothy Labostrie and is a standard twelve-bar blues in Bb. Interesting to see Craig taking charge and insisting on one more chorus (4 mins 55 seconds) at the end of that long-note harmonising chorus with Chloe. He was clearly thinking they could produce another good one, with a riff - as indeed they did.
It's Saturday morning and I'm spending a couple of happy hours listening to this gorgeous music, and Tuba Skinny, and adoring the beautiful, beautiful Erika Lewis. Shaye is great on the piano just as she is on trumpet. She has a wonderful personality too! Oh, but Erika!
I would love to hear what these guys could do with the Fats Waller and Alberta Hunter rendition of Beale Street Blues from 1927. How would Shaye move Mr. Waller's organ work to a piano? Erika is perfect for those Alberta Hunter numbers, and Craig and Chloe on the clarinets would be great. Nice work folks!
Shaye commands those keys here just like Stephanie Trick, who is a favorite "Stride Piano" player of mine, and you might want to check out Stephanie's work from say 2012 and later, as she's been playing 'in the style of Fats Waller' for well over a decade now. Born in St. Louis, she mostly tours with her husband from Italy, I believe. - j q t -
"Voice, piano, and two (count 'em, 2!!) licorice sticks... what a great combination, and not just for dixieland, either," he says, his composer's teeth watering.
Mine too. Love this stuff. Along with hundreds of other defined genres and subgenres from Renaissance classical to extreme death metal. There is little music to be found that I do not enjoy. I feel sorry for people who only listen to radio hits and/or only one type of music. It's not entirely true to say they are missing out on some great music. More accurately, they are disadvantaged in that they are unable to recognize, appreciate, and enjoy styles apart from their chosen flavour.
It kills me how good all the players associated with Tuba Skinny are. They perfectly express the soul of Dixieland. So many of the bands that play around here are just noisy. You wonder if they even bothered to tune or if they are all even playing the same song. At times walking down Bourbon St. is like walking through a musical artillery shelling.

Clone yourself right now Shaye! Inimitable piano, but I miss your coronet. Craig, none of it would be the same without you.Chloe, really, wow, can this band stand even more talent and beauty? And Erika, you should lock up your powerful voice, it’s a thief - it stole my heart...
Thank you very much for the info. I saw Pokey in Memphis several years ago and I fell in love with her clarinet talent. I think she would give Artie Shaw a run for his money. A big fan now of Tuba Skinny. They are great!!!@@NYBankruptcyLawyer1

@@Kiddman32 Same goes for Denmark ;-)
I agree but I'm not about to throw out my Blur albums just yet! Oasis on the other hand can piss right off.
Erika Lewis sounds wonderful, always.
Simply the best Dixieland Jazz Band on the planet. I could listen to Erika singing 24/7, she's truly amazing...as is the sound of the band
her voice just sounds like maple syrup, tupelo honey and molasses for this type of music…
Shaye and Erika and Craig are always the greatest. A pleasant surprise is Chloe. Thank you so much for all the good music you have sent my way. I do tell my friends.
It doesn't come any better than this.
Chloe is really sweet in this great performance ... I love the way Shaye attacks the piano and Erika belts it out. Craig ... love ya, man! Mikie
Great to see Chloe Fearanzo playing with Tuba Skinny people at last. Chloe is worthy of playing in any company. Not before time.
Don't forget Chloe and Shaye played together a bit in the Shake em Up Band.
How wonderful to see yet more young people playing proper music, with proper instruments (if you see what I mean!). There is hope...

What a wonderful pure ❤ sound. No complicated fake electronics.
Just pure talent

Sing it out, Erika! Shay Cohn says it all...5 STARS!*****
Erika Lewis, Shaye Cohn you ladies are awsome. Love all your music.
What a surprise to see this combination with Chloe involved. Great performance by all of You! Greetings from Sweden also.

Dorothy of course, is also credited for co-writing the rock classic “Tutti Frutti”.
Fantastic! Sweet song!
Are we entering another "golden era" of dixieland music? I don't think it's been this good since WW2 .
There was some good stuff going on in the sixties and seventies.
my first musical love. world music at its best.

Splendid stuff from all concerned here !. Lovely rolling Piano. Moves right along !.

My favorite players in New Orleans. Thanks for uploading Randy.
I’ve only recently found your videos and music and am loving everything I watch and hear. Thank you all!
Super talented people easy listening all fantastic what a band.
Erika's singing is like a fine wine, it just continues getting better and better ~
Many years ago, I heard Koko Taylor belt out this song at a blues festival. I like this version, too.
Very nicely done. It is always a treat to hear Tuba Skinny as they continue to set the bar a little higher every time they play.

You can have my husband
