Can You Beat Borderlands Without Using A Shield? (in text form)

The first decision we need to make is what class to play as. Lilith is almost universally considered overpowered, but to be honest I never really liked playing as a Siren. Without a shield, health regeneration is crucial, which is why I chose Mordecai. After getting off the bus, I followed Claptrap, changed my colors to blue and yellow, and got into combat for the first time. While I only have 100 health to begin with, it’s not uncommon for enemies to drop health vials, so getting through the Bandits and entering Firestone wasn’t difficult at all.
Then I rescued Claptrap, killed a few dogs, and got the Medical Vending machine back online. Something happened here that occurs a few times throughout this run. If you don’t have a shield and you buy one or pick one up, it will automatically become equipped. Right now, it’s easy to un-equip it before it has a chance to recharge, but in the heat of battle it’s not so easy.
After killing a few Bandits and meeting T.K. Baha, I found Baha’s stolen food, bought a few grenades, and was off to Skag Gully to kill Nine-Toes. Not long after entering Skag Gully, I leveled up to level 5 and could finally send my combat parrot out to strike down my foes. I fought my way through more skags and bandits until I reached Nine-Toes, who died in about 5 seconds. I went down for the first time fighting one of his puppies, killed the second one rather quickly, and it was time to spend my 2nd skill point, also known as the first skill point to actually matter. The skill I’m after is Riotous Remedy, which regenerates up to 3% of your health per level over the course of 7 seconds. But 5 points must be put into the Gunslinger skill tree first, so I opted for the Deadly skill, because more critical hit damage is always a good thing.
Back in Firestone, I tried to take out Bone Head even though he was 6 levels higher than me. It went about as badly as you could have guessed. I needed to level up a bit before I took on Bone Head again, so I went back to Skag Gully to do a few side quests. Collecting the 8 Bladeflower Seeds was the hardest part of this run thus far, primarily because fighting multiple high-level Skags at once is not the easiest thing in the world. I found that sitting back and sniping everyone I could was the best way to go about this. Who’d have thought that the best way to not take damage was to not take damage. Show of hands, who saw that coming? Alright put your hands down, you weirdos.
With the seeds in my pants, I killed Scar to retrieve TK Baha’s leg, found the 2nd Data Recorder, turned in the missions, got myself up to level 10, bought a new shotgun, and was finally ready to take the fight to Bone Head. This was actually really annoying because I thought I was nailing him with headshots, but they were going right through him. After a few minutes of popping our from behind cover, I killed Bone Head, killed his friends, and caught a ride.

Mostly just relevant to the first Borderlands due to how rarities interacted with Legendaries (it’s why there’s Yellow, Orange and Dark Orange variants of legendaries)

Sean Sutherland Legendaries in Borderlands 1 weren’t determined by their rarity, they were determined by whether or not they spawned a Legendary Part on a gun. So if it spawned on a green rarity gun, it would be Yellow rarity and if it spawned on a purple rarity gun, it would be Dark Orange instead. A rather massive difference between these 2 kinds

Just beat him earlier for the first time, I literally just held LMB while scoped in and he died. Never moved, never healed. Basically the same with every other boss. I hate to think how pathetic it must have been before the rebalance. Then I somehow died from full life during the cutscene and the respawn skipped my ending, I had to watch it on youtube and found out it was the worst ending I've ever seen. Now I now why marcus talks about tentacles and disappointment. Such a lame ending to a pretty decent game.

@@giovannicervantes2053 This is true, and is a good response as for why he is so skinny. It can also be why he drinks so much later on, as he may not feel any hunger pains while drunk.
Mordecai in 1 though is great, not just due to Bloodwing, but due to his first skill tree. When you down it, you can eventually ignore 100% of all enemy shields, and increase accuracy with all guns. On my replaying through the game, I was sniping guys with a shotgun while one shitting everything.

11:18 that mission is bugged for some reason. it becomes available when you free claptrap, then a broken claptrap will appear in that spot.

Having done this back in 2014 on the Original Borderlands on PS3 and in 2016 on the PC version, it is possible to do this not only without a shield, but using only sniper rifles as your only weapon choice; and without dying. The remaster does bring a few changes to the game, but the game is almost identical. It is also possible to beat all of the DLC without a shield and without dying.
An alternate strategy for Moe and Marley is luring them to the start of Arid Hills and hiding behind the vending machines. You'll be out of their attack range and they will constantly be opening their mouth for crit shots.
Roid Rage Psycho has had its' cheese method half-patched, where you could shoot between the chain-link fence and the pole supporting. In the remaster, they added some boxes to block this, but you can still cheese him by grenade jumping out of the arena and safely get rid of him.
Sledge is easily the worst fight in shieldless. A technique that I used was luring him out of his room and then sniping him from the vending machines; as this is out of his wonder radius and he will barely hit you.
I personally went for Out for Blood skill and Bloodwing multi-targets with stun to mitigate as much damage as possible as you can recall Bloodwing early if you get low on health by pressing the Action Skill button again while he is out and attacking. You can almost always use bloodwing to keep your health in perfect condition. Bloodwing multi-targets are also incredible with 2 enemies as you can hit each one multiplie times.
Krom has a perfectly safe spot where you can destroy his turret on the right side, 2 tiers away from the top. His turret can't track you quick enough if you run up and take cover. Just be aware of the enemies.
Flynt is quite a troublesome fight as his shots are rather random. You can mitigate almost all damage from him by strafing anti-clockwise around him due to the way his rockets serpentine.
Master McCloud is quite an easy boss to deal with due to his trajectory on his weapon being incredibly slow. Multi-target Bloodwing is a godsend in this encounter as the Royal Guard are defeated almost instantaneously.
Overall, I am happy to see people doing this challenge. It is an interesting one to say the least.

I think Brick would had been a better option, he regen his health everytime he uses his action skill, in fact I think he's the OP character.. Health low? Berserk! Enemy too strong? Berserk! Wanna walk faster? BERSERK!!
mordecai is even better with his flock on the 1.0 version.
Lilith is the most op by far then it's Roland.
Brick's action skill is pretty notorious for being useless in lategame playthrough 2 and beyond
@@stupidloser2714 Actually, despite the fact that yes, it doesn't do much damage late game, it still has a major use. That use is the brick speed glitch. When brick goes into berserk, he is made reserved to walking only, but has a significant speedboost. By entering the menu as bricks action skill is starting, the player can keep the speedbonus on their player, while being able to run, and shoot weapons. This saves tons of down time whilst walking from place to place.
@@tyrannicalthesaurus4672 I've known about the Brick speed glitch, but that's a bug related to his action skill and not an advertised feature of it. Besides, the game throws car stations at you like you're on the fuckin Daytona Speedway, so I almost never use the glitch when I should be

@@IronResistance Accuracy is still important in the remake. I finished a max level mordecai playthrough and any revolver/sniper below 90 accuracy was basically unusable with a sniper build. Might be better if you spec into accuracy but I would prefer waiting for a liquid or dahl sniper than using a slow inaccurate mess.

I remember beating Borderlands 1 years ago when I was a wee lad. I was lvl 31 at the time and my younger brother who I played with all game was level 27 or 28. He was level below because I was sick and stayed home from school a for few days and got levels. I beat the destroyer by using the alien sniper by peaking out of cover to shoot and heal and repeat. what a blast.
I still have memories playing 1 and the other Borderlands with my older brothers, I remember coop-ing with my brother against the Destroyer and I had the Bulldog shotgun and he kept knocking me off the edge but my brother and I just kept firing at him after I respawned lol. Wish I could go back to those times tho, bc now they are older and have their own lives to deal with

I've never played a Borderlands game, but I might try out the third one. How difficult would you say the games are in a normal playthrough?
It depends on how you play if you run in guns blazing it can be difficult. And your guns play a part to if you crap guns it can be hard if you have good guns it can be easy. So I would say that it can be easy at some times and hard

I've been playing Borderlands since it's release in 2009. I have played more Borderlands than any other videogame ever (other than mayyybe League of Legends), having maxed each Vault Hunter on every available platform, plus countless restarts just to play with friends.
Today I learned that the skill is called Riotous Remedy, and is, in fact, NOT called Righteous Remedy.

I don't even have to watch this. The answer is yes. Every Borderlands game is possible to beat without a Sheild. In fact, Borderlands 2 encourages it on some characters.
