    • @DaleBrose
      @DaleBrose 2 года назад

      @@riseupchapel5854 When you claim the reliability of the new testament, exactly what part are you calling reliable?
      I don't need to prove a lie. But the only evidence I need is the past 1900 years to see the claims of text such as Mathew 16:18 did not come to pass.
      I will concede that for the first century messianic Jews that this text was written for, it was not a lie. But it was propaganda and good marketing to give these people hope after watching their temple destroyed. The place where they had been told there entire life, was where their god dwelled.
      To witness the destruction of the temple by pagan forces had to have been traumatic for them. So, with good marketing, the idea of a mashiach that would drive out the Romans, reunite Israel and rebuild the temple gave these people hope. After all, their god fell to another power. How could this be?
      But, looking at scripture critically, the jewish text was grossly misrepresented, changed and taken out of context to make the Christian case. Just reading the jewish text in context and then looking at new testament writings is all the evidence I need to see that Christianity was established on falsehoods from the start.
      If indeed there was a historical Jesus and if indeed he did and said all the things that were claimed by writers decades later, then he was, in fact, a false prophet.
      If he was the Jewish Messaih, find me the text in the Tanakh were the god of the jews instructs Isreal to worship the messiah as god.
      But here we are, in 2022. Nothing has come to pass and people continue to build careers off of promoting all of this nonsense.

Having done this, God raised the name of His son above all other names, that any who would be saved must enter through HIS name, all others have to face the punishment for their own sins. So He was raised from the dead and glorified bodily that He would never see death again and that is our great hope that we will be like Him and live in a body free from sin and death. There is spirit and there is flesh; what is impossible with the flesh is possible with God. In addition to our salvation, Jesus also had to die to fulfill all that had been written of Him in the prophets. It appears to me that Mr. Wallace’s presentation has significant holes in it concerning the “death” of Jesus. He seeks to “prove” the death of Jesus based on one account in the gospels, John 19:31-37. This story appears only in John’s gospel which, of course, is the latest account written, perhaps 90-110 C.E. Who was there to either corroborate or disprove the story? Virtually, no one. Wallace commits a serious flaw, and that is the flaw of assumption. He is happy to accept the account because he thinks it supports his tautology that Jesus died, which, of course, is a logical necessity for proceeding to “resurrection”. Unfortunately for Mr. Wallace there is much internal evidence from the gospels themselves that calls this account and its veracity into question. Now that’s real news to evidential apologists because they have never searched the documents searching for actual evidence, or so it would appear. Mr. Wallace makes the very mistake he warns people to avoid, that is, Jesus died. As a result he becomes a victim to assumptions and in so doing loses his curiosity and simply winds up where he began, believing that Jesus died. And young, impressionable minds become victims to this thinking and teaching. Sad, but true. Many beliefs and the arguments to support them are simply houses of cards built on wrong/false assumptions. I would expect more from people honestly searching for reasonable answers. Thanks. Thom Waters.

Paul met with John and Peter twice in order to assure that he was teaching the gospel according to those who were with Jesus from the beginning. It didn't really matter to anyone that water came from Jesus being pierced with a spear until people discovered that's how the human body works when they are dead. And yes, there is no doubt that Jesus was killed on the cross. It's also documented by the Romans and some Jewish historians.

    One additional word because it has, through many years, become more increasingly more frustrating dealing with Christian apologists who often disregard their own structures or “rules” for making their case or argument. Mr. Wallace is no different and either is not consciously aware of it or simply chooses to ignore it. This would be in his use of eyewitnesses, how to examine them, and what to consider. One of these, of course, is verification. Who verifies John’s “spear story@? No one does. Yet, Mr. Wallace is more than happy to use it as the critical piece of “evidence” for the death of Jesus. Sure, why not? It fits his belief and argument. Much more could be said along these lines, but I feel it to be somewhat self-serving when apologists do such things. Thanks again.

      That's a good question. I think you should view everything from history with some level of skepticism, and determine if you believe it based on circumstances and evidence. This seems obvious, because events from history cannot be repeated. In the end, all you will have is your best guess.
      Maybe you shouldn't even believe what you've seen without question; again, depending on the circumstances. Magicians, illusionists and scammers make livings out of tricking people. Some people do hallucinate. If I tell you I saw something crazy, I hope you will at least think about it before believing me. I don't think it's ridiculous. They are fair questions. If you don't have the complete evidence for something, you cannot be sure it happened. You can make a decision based on what you do have about the probability that it did happen. However, whether we landed on the moon or not, either of those outcomes would be more easily believable than what Jesus did, and less important. Nobody lives their life based on the moon landing.
      Maybe we have different definitions of evidence. The fact that someone wrote something down doesn't make it true. This is obvious. You don't KNOW anything about the NT except what it currently says. You don't know what it originally said, or who wrote any of it, or when it was written, or if it was changed over time, or who was an eyewitness, or if there were any eyewitnesses at all, or if anyone was ever interviewed for it. You don't know if anything written in it ever really happened. There's no evidence of any resurrection, ever. They are a bunch of stories written around 1,900 years ago by unknown people.
      I have a hard time believing it because of all of this. It seems MUCH more likely that these stories are pure fiction, designed to attract followers with wild claims of divinity and eternal life (and threats of hell if you disobey), than it is that Jesus really came back to life after three days. You choose to believe it. I do not know why. It does not make sense to me. I assume most believe because someone told them it was true. I can't think of anything else that is so unquestioningly believed as the Bible.

    Also, forgot to mention. This notion of Mr. Wallace that all the people during this time of Jesus knew what a dead person looked like and felt like is not only silly and at best is an exaggeration that he conveniently uses to “prove” his belief that Jesus died, but it is discredited by Scripture itself. In Acts 14:19-21. Here we find the account of Paul stoned, believed to be dead, dragged out of the city and left, but turned out to be very much alive. Not only was he not dead, must have looked pretty bad, but the VERY next day left with Barnabas to continue preaching. Jesus, through many incarnations had reached a state of perfection, which meant he was Love personified, a Master soul. Such people have power over the material, which is why he could perform miracles and walk on water. Only a Master soul who is pure love has such powers, there is no way anyone who had not evolved to that point of pure love could do what Jesus did. This is a safeguard to prevent Divine powers being misused.

      @@ayolovephat It's just as valid as all the other thousands of claims Christians have or what they understand the Jesus character to be. The only difference is you can't screech HERESY!!! and then kill James in the name of Jesus for not believing the same thing as you do...as was the common practice of Christians for the majority of the 2000 years of christian history. since the beginning of Christianity there has never been a consensus as to the understanding of who or what Jesus is.

      I agree that Jesus is love personified; however the statement regarding him going through many incarnations is odd. Is this a belief based on Hinduism? I despite the word “ heresy.” I rather ask and learn. 😀

      @@BlessedGJ Thanks for your response. This comes back to what are humans in essence? I believe that we are energy that takes on form, to experience a separate identity through a body, and that this occurs many times on the path to enlightenment. I understand that at Nicea, it was thought that people would not try if they knew that they had more than one chance, but consider this; God is Infinity! Could we really expect to have the remotest concept of the Creator in one short life? The Hindu version believes that we are trapped in form, but I believe that we choose to come here in order to make spiritual progress, many times over, and that the afterlife is multi-layered, with realms that can be resided in according to that progress, with the possibility of reaching higher when that happens. I refer you to 'My Father's house has many mansions', and also 'There are many things I could tell you but you could not bear them now'. In this time we can have greater understanding. I wish you well, truly!

    John saw the water come out of Jesus side but he didn't know the science behind it. True. However, crucifixions were common. It's reasonable to assume that stabbing someone in the side to see if they were dead was common. Every time they stab someone in the lungs what appeared to be water would come out. There's nothing special about this observation. Like most apologists, this guy shades the truth to make his point.

    • @Cpthilton
      @Cpthilton 3 года назад +7

      The special nature of the observation was just that! A common occurrence, that otherwise would have been overlooked was both found to be significant and written down. Sounds like you might be doing a little shading yourself.

    • @jaclo3112

      @@Cpthilton being crucified was also a common occurrence. so was torturing a criminal before they were crucified. yet christians make out like it was some special sacrifice. It wasn't. it was all mundane and ordinary.
      But Wallace claims that no one knew that water would come out of lungs when you stabbed the executed criminal. But they did. Even an uneducated and illiterate Roman soldier would especially know this as it was a common occurrence. They may not have known the biological mechanism to explain why it happened but that it happened would not have been a surprise. Maybe the writers of the jesus stories were ignorant of such facts, but not those back in that time who were familiar with crucifixion. So yes, Wallace is shading the truth to make a point.

      @@jaclo3112 If not for your arrogance I would almost feel sorry for people like you. It was long prophesied that the Savior would be "numbered with the transgressors" and die a common, humiliating death. The fact that it fulfilled prophecy was what made it noteworthy; just as riding a donkey into Jerusalem wasn't an extraordinary event except that it had been prophesied for centuries that it would happen.
      The only reason Jesus was stabbed in this manner was because Passover was about to begin and they needed to quickly verify that he was dead, otherwise they would have let him hang there for days if necessary. So, most of the time this type of stabbing was unnecessary and even if the average Roman soldier knew it, the general population likely did not. Now, perhaps Wallace shouldn't have made a blanket statement but the larger point is clear, that being this seemingly benign detail provides astounding eyewitness evidence that Jesus was verifiably dead.

    Sir, I am baffled as to why such young children are at such a talk. Would they understand this? Maybe they do, it's possible, but it's not quite reasonable. LOL!
    I'm quite advanced in my age compared to these children, and I can just keep up only because I have already heard this similar talk a few times on RUclips, and it is hard. Using the same powerpoint presentation, I would not be able to explain it properly to someone else. Maybe you have had far more practice, that's probably it.

      People open their mouths to jeer at me;
      they strike my cheek in scorn
      and unite together against me.
      God has turned me over to the ungodly
      and thrown me into the clutches of the wicked.
      All was well with me, but he shattered me;
      he seized me by the neck and crushed me.
      He has made me his target;
      his archers surround me.
      Without pity, he pierces my kidneys
      and spills my gall on the ground.
      That's just from verse 10 -13 to save space. Obviously its not Job since when did they strike Job's cheek in scorn or when was Job pierced and have his vital fluid poured out onto the ground? He is prophesying about Jesus just as David did in Psalm 22.Even the term 'He crushed me' echo's Isaiah 53's "But he was pierced for our transgressions,
      he was crushed for our iniquities;"
