Up scaling high res portraits is kind of problematic. Topaz needs to train their model on something, so they probably bought the highest resolution camera possible to define what is correct, and then downscaled that. Then, the quality of a model is assesed by comparing the upscaled to the original, say, 64mp... The problem is that, if you use photos that are already as large as the photos Topaz used for training (e.g the portrait example), if not larger, the model falls apart. It's in uncharted territory if you try to get it to do a e.g. 10,000 mp photo from a 64 mp one. Topaz would need to train with an electron microscope to assess whether or not the model was working... The finite data set resolution is precisely why it shines only with low res.
As mentioned in comment above, a comparison to Adobe LR resolution boost feature would be warranted. Perhaps you could do the comparison of one or two images in a future vid, Jens. Cheers.
I've returned to photography after 30yrs - Mum time! Really enjoyed your videos that are so inspirational. Hope you're having a wonderful holiday! Blessings to you & your family! Much appreciation!
I'd give a higher score for hi-res images because enlarging an image 2x or 4x without losing detail is amazing in itself, If you were to scale it back down, it would be sharper.
some of those high resolution photos that didn't gain much from scaling would probably actually benefit from the sharpening software you said was a waste, give it another try. It is much more capable than the sharpening in the denoise software It is really good at sharpening areas just out of focus. I also use it sparingly with the masking tools provided. I especially like it on eyes in high resolution portraits. Sometimes I'll take a finished image I think looks really good and throw it into the sharpening one and it suddenly pops. I do agree gigapixel shines the most on lower quality images where there is a bit of guesswork to be done, also old technical drawings for some reason.
I will make a side by side comparison soon;) In some situations the results are quite similar. Sometime I use giga pixel, then denoise to get an additional boost of image quality. But both as stand alone software do a really good job
Tried this, along with similar apps, on a low-res phone camera portrait, and it produced a mush of odd shapes, grafting and colour shades, making the original file worse. AI is not the miracle worker it's purported to be...tho' it probably is with a decent starting file?
I’ve converted 8 mm film to digital. Before doing a resolution upscale, would you recommend that I use neat video to Denoise it first? I don’t want to overprocess the videos. I have topaz AI and gigapixel as well as adobe premiere.

Yeah I will defenitely give an update on this, Cheers;)

What camera did you shoot with at around 3:0? I liked all the photos u showed
Hey, the humming bird was shot with sony a6300 and sony70-300mm
@@anotherperspective3076 oh wow never would of thought I have a gh5 so I thought it was like a a74. Nice pictures really
I liked the way it smoothed out some of my photos so I was using it to upscale and the drawing in back to the original size in photoshop haha
Have you tried it on human face that are as blurred at the photo of the hawk in the original? If so it would be great to do a video on it.
Yes there is another Video on my channel
How to make blurry low Resolution...

4:48 Gorgeous
When I do the upscaler I get weird almost like checkerboard pattern across the entire image ruining it. Why is that?
Mh... I have not noticed that. Did you also see that in my example images?
@@anotherperspective3076 I haven't the whole thing also gets blurry
May I ask what is the difference between this & topaz denoise? Would they both get same/ similar results? Many thanks!

What's really the difference between the denoise and the gigapixel?
Denoise is not changing the resolution but it does a great job removing noise while keeping the details.
But... I should do a side by side comparison:)
How about out of focus photos and high iso photos? Follow up video?
out of focus photos can't be sharpened
High iso would be interesting for fup Video
Any torrent for this?
This is a great app - never heard of it before. Am hoping they’ll have another sale around Christmas 🤞🏽.
Good luch:)
In my experience Adobe LR Super Resolution is performing much better than Gigapixel AI
I need to try this.
LR only doubles resolution…

And?
Come on man! Who actually takes 2Mp pictures? 🙄
Noone But after cropping I often end up at that range then i can delete or recover it with sw
There are plenty of super strange looking artifacts in any of these images, I wouldn't wanna use the tool.
If 4k image is 8 to 12 megapixels.
so... 1 Gigapixel is 31.000K or 460.000K ?
1000 megapixel
@@anotherperspective3076 in "K" ?
like we say 2k 4k 8k. so.. it 1000k?

I was also a little disappointed in this. It honestly makes me not want to subscribe even though the video content was good and I enjoyed it.

Why would you want to upscale a high resolution image? There's no point in that
I only use it for cropped Images
