This era of gaming was amazing. 2007 had Bioshock, Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, Metroid Prime 3, Crysis, CoD 4 and Mass Effect. 2008 had Metal Gear Solid 4, Dead Space, Burnout Paradise, Left 4 Dead, ect. Now if we get one game a year as influential as those, we would be lucky.

Fun story time: When I played this game, I never used the Nectar mechanic--I found the game just too easy, I didn't *need* to be juiced up to kick ass, I was doing just fine. But there's a bit in the game where your character is *supposed* to be feeling negative withdrawal effects of the drug, and it's played as a revation for you about how much you relied on it, but since I didn't, I was genuinely confused what was happening and I remember being disappointed they dint have an alternate event for players that didn't use the drug.
The only reason why Haze exists is because TimeSplitters 4 became impossible to pitch to developers after it underperformed in sales. EA spent the money and resources they had marketing their new Goldeneye game instead of Future Perfect, and were candid to Free Radical about how their Goldeneye game was better than TimeSplitters. EA probably never realized the irony of that situation
Well at least a new timesplitters game is coming now. I just hope they can keep the spirit of the first 3 games, and keep soulless "woke" ideology out of it.
I was hardcore on PS3 and never once heard anyone utter Haze as a "Halo killer". I think someone was reading into troll forums too much for this to become a narrative at all.
This would would make a great new series on your channel. Replaying these old games that had so much hype but died within weeks of release and very few of us even bothered to play lol.
Never touched campaign, but my brother, cousin and I had a blast playing multiplayer. I think we viewed it as a break from playing Halo all the time, but it definitely wasn’t even close to being a Halo killer lol
Technically the devolpers never titled it a halo-killer; it was just what the news coverage said, and then that was substantiated by it being a console exclusive fps on the rival console.
The developers were never fond with the Halo Killer title. It’s what the marketing chose to take advantage of when it became a ps3 exclusive. It’s honestly kind of sad, so much was out of Free Radicals control with Haze’s development
Ahh yes Haze. My favorite game that is objectively bad. If only things could have been different with the IP and Free Radical having other issues. Glad you took the time to play through it at least.
While i never experienced this game at the time and never played it but only watched a few gameplays online, i actually wanted to try the demo last year. And yeah, i was only less than 5 minutes in and it bored me so quick that i deleted the demo lol.

A buddy and I played the multiplayer alllll the time. I still play it once in a while for the nostalgia Edit: just remembered that the randomly generated names can eventually spit out "hank hill" lol
I remember being in a store and hesitating between this game and uncharted 2 (back when I was still buying game on the box alone) I realize now that I made one of the best decision of my life
Something to note the nectar and playdead mechanics worked in multi-player. Shooting somebody's nectar tank and watching them shotgun their teammate was very satisfying.
Man I met so many of people on my friends list through HaZe. A lot of them havent signed on in years... but thanks for the memories! I still think about them where they are now and what they're doing lol
I remember beating the whole game on hardest difficulty a couple years ago. Wasn't a fan either, but the story had potential I guess. Was a little bit challenging from what I remember, especially the last level or 2.
I enjoyed Haze back in the day. I had played Halo 1 & 2 before it, so I knew Haze wasn't as good, but I really appreciated the new and clever ideas it brought. Well done for highlighting that. I pretty much enjoyed it, right up until that difficulty spike... hated that... but then the final level was good fun and rounded off the experience nicely. It’s actually quite a memorable game for me. I just wish they had time to polish off those hard edges.
Tbh, it wasn't a game for the campaign. The multiplayer was where it was at. Of course I could be nostalgia blinded as it was my very first multiplayer FPS, but every single map had a unique objective. Definitely not a cookie cutter experience.
If you haven't you should review the Tribes series or Tribes Aerial Assault. Speaking of halo killers, when this was an active game it was incredibly fun and had a cult following. Lots of teamwork and clans and competition etc. You can play against bots and do split screen.
Happy to see a video on this game actually. I remember when I got it I actually really liked it and it got me into fps games. And the story at the time was really cool to me. Obviously it didn't. Age well but was fun still all in all. Thanks for doing a video on it
When that Trophy sound was going off I thought HAZE doesn't have Trophies then realised it wasn't the game doing that :D + TimeSplitters1/2/3FP by FRD was AMAZING on the PS2 & this game was nothing like their normal games(& now I know why) :-/ Hopefully one day we will get a TimeSplitters Trilogy update on PlayStation :P (+ it's GOT TO HAVE the 4 player split-screen mode to because that was BRILLIANT especially in TS2) :P
Agreed. The team is back together and working on a new Timesplitters game right now :) Also really hoping for 4-player split-screen as that's what TS was all about for me
This was never a "halo killer" only halo could do that. But it seemed like anything that wasn't halo or on Xbox got labeled as "halo killer" by IGN or GameSpot, that crap drove me nuts.
It's one of those games with some really great ideas, but unfortunately executed poorly. They spoiled the story in the trailers before it even came out, that was a big screw-up. The game had so much promise, probably why there was a decent amount of hype for it. I thought the first bit was decent, but too much was forgettable.
I remember I actually enjoyed this game. The story was very good for me. And well, normal in 2007 was actually normal difficulty, not easy like now in 2023.
We live in an era where "mid" now means terrible. This is partially IGN's fault, since they flat out refuse to score mediocre games below a 6 or even a 7. So when someone hears a game is just okay or mediocre, that registers as forgettable, unambitious, and sometimes bad. If you want some recent examples, look at games like Forspoken or Dead Island 2.
@@ToastyCubes true…it would be interesting to see another go at it. In this climate with better writing it might be a good spec ops mindFvck type of game.

Oh my, fair play to you for giving it a shot. Nicely done providing context for the time in between the playthrough.
Edit: Jeez, that banter from the squad is dire.
oh man this brings me back! i used to work at Walmart at the time as a stockboy and we were rarely allowed to stock up the electronic section since someone did it during the day but we still had access to the backstore. Haze boxes were literally everywhere, cluttering a good section of the backstore, open boxes and broken cd's. this and the viva pinata trouble in something on xbox were treated like literal garbage by everyone
That was a sign then. 🤣
Viva Piñata!? Man I loved those 2 games (well TiP is more just an expansion) but still lol
9:48 where the jank animation produces that soldier model out of thin air just chillin 😂
Really diggin the retrospective, I'd 100% welcome more Tues videos like this! I was still in school during the PS3 era and an avid EGM reader so I remember a lot of the hyped up games from that generation but got to play very few of them. It's a lot of fun taking that trip down memory lane and seeing how these games turned out with the benefit of 15 years of hindsight
This era of gaming was amazing. 2007 had Bioshock, Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, Metroid Prime 3, Crysis, CoD 4 and Mass Effect. 2008 had Metal Gear Solid 4, Dead Space, Burnout Paradise, Left 4 Dead, ect. Now if we get one game a year as influential as those, we would be lucky.
imagine tryin to kill a game from the last generation, when ps3 games are worse than games from the past generation it says a lot.
Thanks for finishing it and letting me see how it ends. My copy stopped working mid way through and never finished it.
More videos like these please, especially of forgotten PS3 games
Lair should be the next one.
@@Dragonfury3000_2 nah, Folklore should be next.
Man, PS3 had so many forgotten games.
@@DannysHauntedJourney I never forgot Folklore. I just haven't gotten to play it yet since I bought it because my 60GB is currently getting fixed. One game Ryan should look at is Legendary. I haven't played that, but one of my friends have.
An ad before the video and an ad 1:30 in awesome bro I really want to keep watching
On release I enjoyed the game, it didn't blow me away or anything but was fun enough to carry me through the very short campaign.
I enjoyed the Multiplayer aswell as the Campaign.
Was great fun splitscreen too.
I would never judge a game by it’s reviews, YOU are it’s review.
I really like the premise of this game, although it sucks that it wasn’t executed well. Here’s hoping it gets a remade into a much better game
6:57 rip aaron :(. Good review. Thanks for the video
Seeing you cover more forgotten PlayStation games like this would be awesome. I was always curious about this game but never got around to playing it.
This game was great. Back in the day as a kid this game was so much fun
I actually liked this game in 2008, didn't know about the marketing or drama behind the scenes, just saw it on a shop and rented it. Some good ideas.
Frank Sinatra's "Balls in Yo Jaws" used to play at my uncle's house all the time when I was young! I remember him picking me up in his van after t-ball practice, it was cool because it always had candy! He always had a warm popsicle in his pants too, cream-filled I think? He used to compliment me on how good I could keep secrets. The song really takes me back to a better time!
I remember the hype for Haze and really did look forward to it back in the day - it was a massive let down and remember after I completed it I sold it as I thought I'll not be playing that again...
Love that this channel is DIDDY FREE
😂
Woah, I haven't seen this game for year's man! Definitely saving this video to my "Watch Later". As I'm currently playing GTA IV, an actual good game lol.
GTA IV is my favourite of all time. simply incredible. only flaws are the fps and certain graphics issues on the ps3.
@@DRIFTAH1 Good thing is it's on the Xbox backwards compatibility. I played it on PS3, and when I boot it up on my Series X it's amazing lmao.
Playing GTA4 with a Mclassic and a decent 1TB SSD today is the way to go when playing it on PS3. Fixes issues the game had when it comes to image quality and hitching from loading in assets off the HDD. It's cool you can do this stuff to your old games today.
@@WllKiedSnake oh Dude I so wish I had of bought an Mclassic a few years ago when they were only around $90, now they're $180 AUD!
That sounds awesome, I've been playing the 360 build again on my Series S because all my PS3's decided they would no longer take/read discs...
@@WllKiedSnake I also think the 360 build is the best version, better than the PC build. But I played a lot on the PS3 as well growing up.
6:17 looks like you were trying to hold in either laughter or words that would cancel you by biting your lip lol
Fun story time:
When I played this game, I never used the Nectar mechanic--I found the game just too easy, I didn't *need* to be juiced up to kick ass, I was doing just fine.
Didn't they force you to use it at certain points? Like the parts where it malfunctions.
@@leatherhidegaming not that I remember, but I also haven't played it in *quite* some time.
Me and my boys rented it and played it for a weekend. We loved it.
Haze is a bit of a sad story for many of us back then who were hoping for a new TimeSplitters game.
I just hope they can keep the spirit of the first 3 games, and keep soulless "woke" ideology out of it.
yeah thank goodness!!
@@zackfair6791 Timesplitters was "woke" before guys like you cried about everything being "woke" nowadays.
@@kingwokester7324 No, it wasn't.
KoRn did a song for this game called HaZe. I've never played this game before and it doesn't seem good. But the song is worth checking out.
Killzone 2 is genuinely fantastic
Loved the multi player
I remember playing this and having a pretty good time - liked the way it had stims to wreck everyone and warp reality/storyline
I was hardcore on PS3 and never once heard anyone utter Haze as a "Halo killer". I think someone was reading into troll forums too much for this to become a narrative at all.
I never played it but at least in my country the press hyped it up as a Halo killer.
If you played the multiplayer you would love it even more
This would would make a great new series on your channel.
This is really cool, playing the ol PS3 games , I didn't have ps till now (PS5) these videos are great
Damn. Ryan unlocked so many trophies. 😜
You and platinum journey are the best PlayStation channels on RUclips. Just really good to watch.
Loved the story idea of this game and online 4 player coop back in the day was amazing.
Ahh yes Haze. My favorite game that is objectively bad. If only things could have been different with the IP and Free Radical having other issues. Glad you took the time to play through it at least.
I loved this game! It was one of the first games I had when I got a ps3 back in the day. The whole ship in that intro sequence was a multi-player map.
I miss those days when we could play sci-fi FPS single player campaign like twice a year as a matter of course.
Especially without wondering if all the content was on the disc or not lol to be drip fed as DLC
Halo killer was Killzone. And it came out first than Haze in 2004.
Damn...😂😂😂
I remember playing the demo, and I was like this ain't it....😂
While i never experienced this game at the time and never played it but only watched a few gameplays online, i actually wanted to try the demo last year.
And yeah, i was only less than 5 minutes in and it bored me so quick that i deleted the demo lol.
Bro this game was sooo good on ps3. The one shot gun was insane. The multiplayer was amazing
Haze still the best game artwork iv'e ever seen
Only thing it managed to kill was Timesplitters.
@Nero The Chosen you are a spesh, so is your upvoter.
Haze killed free radical, the death of FreeRad meant no more timesplitters, short form: Haze killed timesplitters.
Also read my username, it’s clear I like the series.
A buddy and I played the multiplayer alllll the time. I still play it once in a while for the nostalgia
Edit: just remembered that the randomly generated names can eventually spit out "hank hill" lol
I remember hearing the KORN song and wanting to play the game. After trying the demo I changed my mind..
I remember being in a store and hesitating between this game and uncharted 2 (back when I was still buying game on the box alone) I realize now that I made one of the best decision of my life
You bought haze?
😂 I literally exclaimed “Is that the end?!” And then the credits started rolling, holy crap that was the end
I bought my ps3 and got this in a bundle. I almost returned the whole damn thing.
Yikes! 😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Something to note the nectar and playdead mechanics worked in multi-player. Shooting somebody's nectar tank and watching them shotgun their teammate was very satisfying.
Do more of these. Very entertaining.
If Haze had come out on ps2, everyone would worship it.
It's development would of probably been smoother no doubt.
Agreed. The team is back together and working on a new Timesplitters game right now :) Also really hoping for 4-player split-screen as that's what TS was all about for me
HAZE didn't have trophies, no. It's an edited sound effect in the video.
This was never a "halo killer" only halo could do that. But it seemed like anything that wasn't halo or on Xbox got labeled as "halo killer" by IGN or GameSpot, that crap drove me nuts.
Loved hearing your thoughts and review on how bad it was
I have so much memories of me me n my bros playing this as a kid. Such a good time for gaming
The only way haze kills halo is when you use it to scratch the disc of halo
You deserve more likes lol
The game was fun back in the day. The split screen coop was great too
It's one of those games with some really great ideas, but unfortunately executed poorly. They spoiled the story in the trailers before it even came out, that was a big screw-up.
The game had so much promise, probably why there was a decent amount of hype for it. I thought the first bit was decent, but too much was forgettable.
Wow! Classic. Another memory unlocked from the vault
I remember I actually enjoyed this game. The story was very good for me. And well, normal in 2007 was actually normal difficulty, not easy like now in 2023.
This story plot is great and the game has some cool mechanics. I think it’s underrated.
Its the actual moment to moment gameplay that looks like it hasn't much going for it
Who would have thought that if we just waited long enough, Halo would kill itself? 🙃
😁👍 this was way funnier to me than it should have been especially as I've played nothing past Reach.
Idk if anyone has mentioned it but the numetal band KoRn even made a song for this game! IMO its actually a good song too!
Haze wasn’t that bad of a shooter. It was mid but I enjoyed it. I feel like it gets a lot of hate for it’s time
We live in an era where "mid" now means terrible.
@@ToastyCubes mediocre is naturally forgettable. It IS a bad thing.
well back then we had halo, haze was and still is trash
@@yyyhhh8481 to each his own at least haze died in peace. Halo was smothered with a stiff azz throw pillow
The only Halo Killer is 343 Industries lol
You actually play the games and give honest opinions about it instead of just trashing the game. I like that approach.
