Of course. But dont forget than Michael and Prince declared thatJames was their more important influence, especially at the stage. It is obvious. You cant deny. Thank u.
james brown pass it on to micheal that all see j b was doing that a head of his time micheal took the ring and ran with it micheal then pass to chris brown
without james there would be no MJ, MJ loved james and look up to him, but you can see that james did the same thing with michael, they both had a lot of respect and love for the other, so comparing them is stupid.
I hate these comparisons. Which Mac is better: the Apple II from 1977 or the Macbook pro from 2014? Stupid question. Not comparable b/c one would not have existed without the other and Michael mentioned that about himself and James on many occasions. Take out the 'VS' and just show us Michael and James b/c they were both the best with what this earth had to offer at their respective times.
Absolutely! Their "respective times". That's the key phrase. As I posted above, earlier. They were both in their prime in two different time periods. Had they been contemporaries, in the same generation, they would likely be influenced by then current trends in both dance, and performance, and would likely share a lot of similarities, to some degree, and yet still have their own innovative, creative styles. Also, both would have been influenced by the legacy of famous artiists who preceded them. Check it Out! Ciao!!!
No! Comparison; James stood out alone by himself. There was no MJ. However, when MJ came along there was still the iconic JB doing his Supreme movements. They were both masters. Bless their souls. They delivered happiness to the Universe.
Michael was a smooth overall dancer but oh that foot work on James brown. You can't compare them because James is the teacher and michael is the student in this regard.
@@cfhar080591 really not a comparison Michael was easily the better dancer just look at his smooth criminal performances they easily beat anything James has to offer.
Everyone after MJ goes too hard w/ sex symbol shit. Bruno Mars and the Weeknd kinda do justice to their influences but I don't see anyone ever topping the two greatest Prince and MJ
Something you always have to remember is that there was only one James Brown. But you always have to remember that there was also only one Michael Jackson. In my eyes the two greatest Entertainers of all time. Thumbs up for both of them
Michael great dancer and performer, no doudt... but James Brown... more swag, more funk in the trunk, soulful... the original mover and shaker... i have seen a million people copy MJ's moves... i have never seen anyone move like JB
micheal was great no doubt, but james in his prime was a way better dancer and singer than micheal. so if micheal and james had been at their prime at the same time, then james would have won by landslide. But I loved em both, to bad they were both slaves to the powers that be in the end.
Let's all just be glad that we got too see these two performers in our lifetime because we will never see that kind of out of this world talent again. Those 2 men took show business to a whole new level never seen before. Rest in Peace to both of them. They will never ever be forgotten.
There will always be talent, though, for anyone who wants to work at it. Hard to imagine another James Brown, though. Michael Jackson is Amazing but there's more show-biz and less - I dunno. I know Michael worked harder than anyone and was so devoted, passionate, skilled but there's still more substance in James Brown. Otherworldly, like you said!
You are indeed correct. That era with Mr.. Brown you will never see in your lifetime. Michael there is not one person to compare to Michael born. Hammer was ok but not comparable to Michael. Usher not even in the running.
*King of Funk that's the difference with James and Michael. It's an evolution of dance, entertainment, music and also audience. Like passing down of generational techniques and it keeps adding each time.
If pop locking and all of the moves that Michael did in his career were invented when James Brown was in his prime then James would be capable of the same thing....Michael admitted himself that his style evolved more as he studied New York street dancers and practiced..... nevertheless in the beginning of the video you can still see Michael incorporating the mash potato, James Brown spins, head nods and struts from the 60s into his performance which speaks volumes on the legacy of James Brown.. .. Michael was also quick to point out that his famous spins and quick footwork derived from watching James Brown endlessly.... bottom line Funk and R & B is in James Brown blood... you can tell he feels it in his bones when he performs ...it's almost like the Holy Ghost... very random and in the moment... Michael dancing is more structured and precise.... it's like "okay everybody remember we're gonna do it like this, this and this just like in rehearsal... I'm paying for the best do not mess up!!!"... James Brown was more like "looka here fellas check this out... I'll take care of all the dancing... you cats just sway back and forth and make sure you drop the beat on the 1 count like I said... you miss it I'm fining every last one of you niggahs when I take off these platforms including yo' ass Fred... whatcha say Maceo?....don't worry about when we take it to the bridge .... if I'm in the moment you wait till I give the damn signal man ....aight let's count it off ... stay on the scene like a sex machine 1, 2, 3, hit it !!!!!..... hahahahaha... see the difference? ... at the end of the day James Brown loved Michael and understood imitation is the best form of flattery... Michael always gave him his props and vice versa while they both were living.... did Michael Jackson expand on it and take it to another level? ... yes he did and electrifyingly so!!!... may both Masters of dance and song, Godfather of Soul and King of Pop rest in peace!!!!
Michael was funk and jazz on broadway. He had the speed of pop lockers with the grace of jazz and tao dancers. Everything mike did was with his hips which made his style so unique as well I felt.
I said the exact same thing. Had they been contemporaies, in their prime, in the same generation, then they would have shared similar influences, and dance trends. Comparing two different eras is not completely plausible, or accurate. It would be like comparing, a younger Will Smith, or New Edition's dancing to the original Temptations. Whatever your view, I won't say anything. Just watch the first minute of this clip here. Check it Out! Ciao!!! ruclips.net/video/4N-NrucQcB8/видео.html
Tap dance was a thing before James was born, yet Mike was a waaaayyyy better Tap dancer than James. Did you see Mike routine where he was dancing like Fred astaire to a song called "get happy". Do you honestly think James brown could have ever pulled something like that off? I doubt it.
michael got some moves off james, but you musn't forget that michael was a superb tapdancer, also helping to create locking and popping dance and the breakdance ;) he also outdanced james brown in his own james brown dance, james brown said that.. hooo, and of course the HUGE influence michael had in the dancing world " michael jackson is not only one of the greatest dancers ever, he is the most influential of the 20th century" baryshnikov
Hugo Paulino James Brown is the Greatest entertainer and the hardest working man in show business ever. More performances throughout his career on different stages and eras. Broke color barriers and was an ambassador to his people. Black people could have survived without MJ as incredible a talent he was, but without James Brown? Man, I just can't imagine music without James The Godfather of Soul Brown.
***** it's just an opinion. take it easy.... michael is more special to me cause he is a BIG part of my childhood, james brown holds a 2nd place in my estimation, i am not talking about facts now, just about how music touches you......i respect your opinion and i hope you respect mine..... merry christmas to you sir....
I agree. James Brown was an icon of Soul and R&B in the 60's. He did a lot for race relations through understanding how to make the lyrics work for the black youth as well as the white. He made people want to get together and dance. Michael learned a lot from him...we all did.
Wow! Faceoff! James Brown and Michael Jackson! Who do you feel is the Best? I feel James Brown is Great, but as an artist, and creativity , MJ's Got it! I know MJ learned alot off of James Brown but he did put his own creation with it!
James was all soul. He felt his songs deeply and that showed in his delivery. Michael was primarily pop and was a technician and perfectionist. To compare objectively will really show two contrasting performers.
There you go: "all soul". That captures it in a phrase! And he holds nothing back. The video presents it as a contest, and I'd have to pick James, though it's a close call. And it's just because I prefer whatever- he's-doing-is-called (part jazz?) to pop. It's just the old-school thing. Michael wears loose sweatpants.. He relies more on his fans while Brown transcends any era.
the Chris Brown's of the world look up Michael Jackson and Prince. But both of them studied James Brown and both have said they got into show business because of James Brown . The God father of SOUL. Mr Dinomite ...The Sex machine... He invented his self so many times. He mastered his craft do your history before you compare these too...James Brown was way ahead of his time . A musical Genius!
Michael also started dancing at the age of 5 yrs old and couldn't wait to put the moves he learned from James Brown and Jackie Wilson to work. He would imitate them also Sammy Davis Jr was one. But even Sammy said James took the moves somewhere else because he had done it longer than Michael.
James Brown was a superb dancer! SO original. Such a great performer. BUT you know GOOD and WELL nobody can TOUCH MJ on the dance floor. Let's not fool ourselves.
LOL, shamone!!!! james was great ! michael was a superb tapdancer, also helping to create locking and popping dance and the breakdance ;) he also outdanced james brown in his own james brown dance, james brown said that
Jackie Wilson whupped them all but James Brown was special and Michael was great. Love ALL of the great entertainers - thank God their music has been recorded for people to enjoy for all time.
Obviously Mike is better, but without James Brown he wouldn't have had the foundation to build off of, James Brown created that style out of thin air, Mike cemented the building but James is the architect
Denny Wyely JB WAS OLD SCHOOL FROM MY YOUTH, WITHOUT HIM THERE WOULD BE NO NEW SCHOOL,SO MJ TOOK AFTER HIM AND IT SHOWS JUST WITH A LIL NEW SPIN,BUT MICHAEL NEVER DID THE SPLITS JB HAD THE STYLE.SORRY MJ YOU DIDN'T WIN THIS ONE,MJ EVEN TOOK JACKIE WILSON STYLE AS WELL,ALL IN ALL THEY WERE GREAT DANCERS🤗🤗
@J Crash You again! You're literally on every Michael video spouting off ignorance and discrediting him. Are you that insecure as a Prince fan? I know it pains you that he will always be in Michael's shadow but get over it.
If we judge the better dancer, I'd say if you put Michael on broadway he could almost hang with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire...If you put michael in street and b boys, he could hang with them. If you mIchael in ballet, his frame and flexibility would have allowed him to excel. Michael could do James Brown exactly like James Brown and was a lil faster in his prime.
James' moves were more energetic and explosive whereas Michael had great control of his body so his moves looked practiced and perfect. Both exciting performers and we are fortunate to have experienced what they expressed in their own way.
It's really hard to say...James stuck to his own unique style, which was raw, uninhibited power and energy. It was like watching a tornado in all its glory. Michael was the king of innovation and application. He used whatever was necessary to bring eye popping results. Glittery socks, shiny gloves, pyrotechnics, flowing hair, not to mention appropriating the dance moves of every significant dancer from Brown, to Jackie Wilson, to Astaire, to Barishnikov. He even used John Travolta. I say Mike.
No better performer, the amount of soul and passion both of these entertainers are capable of producing is untouchable. lets just give praise to both as The greatest performers of our time. unless you can name anyone else who could get down like them.
Rasheem Stewart I love James Brown I grew up watching him and know one could touch him UNTIL MJ came along yes he stupid James and he admitted that but I have to give MJ his props he took what he learned and did it better just because James was the originator don't mean that MJ didn't do it better I have seen original artists do a songs and someone took that same song and did it better it is not far fetched really it's not and MJ took what he learned and he did do it better he is the greatest entertainer ever hit the face of the earth my opinion. THAT'S ALL
Damn I always thought mike was the greatest dancer ever but when I actually looked at Brown his footwork is sensational I didn’t realize how much mike took dances that James did hands down the two greatest dancers to ever live but The Godfather is the greatest
I am gonna have to go with James because James had no teacher! James copied no one, and he was the original. You can have many copies, but only one original!! R.I.P. to them both!!
GOD BLESS YOU BOTH... The entertainment would have been so much less exciting without what you both brought to the stage and to the people.. LOVE YOU BOTH
JB vs. MJ. They were both gr8 but I'd say James killed it. Reasons are that even tho both of them had their trials, James in the 40's & early 50's went thru personal problems with his family, poverty, juvenile delinquency, jail, boxing, went thru Waaaay more tougher times than Mike ever did. James moves influenced many dancers including Mike. Mike, Prince & some other contemporary dancers could take influences from all around to blend into & perfect their moves. While there were a few street dancers around, James was raw, had to be original & just go for broke. I say James Brown.
+dangerousblablao -Yeah, his moves were gr8, but he did borrow from those earlier ones, or else, who knows what, or if any moves he would've, or wouldn't have done.
+dangerousblablao -True but Little Richard was no dancer. James took some of the same moves he did as a kid as well as other moves, like some of the poor kids & street dancers did for money back in the pre-Rock 1930's & early 40's. Then Sammy Davis Jr, the Nicholas Bros, etc. And back then no one had TV's yet so you couldn't repeatedly watch the moves over & over again like later generations could & can now. He had to burn a path that others, up to today, could progressively have easier times going thru.
James Brown clearly laid the foundation for funk; he may have even invented it. His moves were raw, soulful, pure. MJ worked on this foundation and built a skyscraper on it. His moves are artistic and sophisticated. You don't only see James Brown in MJ, you see Fred Astaire, Charlie Chaplin, Marcel Marceau. So yeah, JB and MJ, Tremendous artistic achievements.
To even compare James to Michael is crazy. when Michael would tell people all the time everything he knows and learned came from James. he studied James and he studied the soul train dancers. which all still came from James. he watch James as a young man. at the Apollo and on TV. So hands down James Brown is the best that did it and to ever do it. Because he was the originator.... He started it. James Brown danced to death... He died dancing. You will never top that Michael gave him his props while he was living. MJ always will be Great... But James Brown is the Greatest!!!
i dont agree if we talk about dance, michael got some moves off james, but you musn't forget that michael was a superb tapdancer, also helping to create locking and popping dance and the breakdance ;) he also outdanced james brown in his own james brown dance, james brown said that.. hooo, and of course the HUGE influence michael had in the dancing world " michael jackson is not only one of the greatest dancers ever, he is the most influential of the 20th century" baryshnikov
+Hugo Paulino See that's why you have to do your history and go back when Michael was young . He said it out his own mouth he learned all he no from James and he was learning dance moves with his brothers off show people. He learned locking and break dancing from SOUL train. Those dancers did it first and the young Michael learned from them and came back to SOUL train from time to time to show them that he was using what he learned. James Brown would dance Michael to sleep. I'm not taking anything from Michael because I love them both ,they are both a part of history. But Michael would always let you no that James Brown was the best....James Brown never stop dancing....LOOK IT UP!
ok, so i understood that you are not saying that michael got it all from jb because jb danced like a maniac (in the positive way), but mike as i think a bit more sensibility to dance, did you read the baryshnikov quote i posted? brown said it in 2003 that he used to watch mike dance (mike would be a 10 year old) when he was little and just was amazed of the emotion and technique a little kid like that could use, in that same interview he said that he (michael jackson) surpassed him by creating a style of his own ! of course i know the history of michael jackson, all of it ! you know, it's not by nothing that they teach "the jackson style" in dance schools, refering to michael jackson's dance style, even pina baush, fred astaire admitted he was the most savage, terrific and amazing dancer they had even seen
What I'm saying young man is that yes he did compliment Mike as a young man because little Mike studied him and because he was so young he was amazed. But I grew up knowing about the Jackson 5 and Mike and James and He was not a match to James he just used a lot of what he learned from James and other dancers such as the soul train dancers and put it all together. Way be for Michael was James Brown who had mastered his craft . So you have to study James Brown and that African American culture to understand that. Because Michael got so famous he was able to take there dance moves and reach a broader audience. Soul train dancers was not world wide so they weren't seen by every one. But Michael didn't invent the moonwalk , the popping locking and definitely not tap. It came from soul train. Everything but tap and tap was mastered by so many the Nicholas brothers, Sammy Davis Jr and many more. He studied the greats that is why he was good. But James Brown came from that time when nobody was doing what he was doing so if he started how could you compare. It's not possible. Study James Brown learn about him. You will see what I mean. But I understand that you are young and you've seen Michael do such much. But Michael learn from people and He said that from a little boy. His first audition was James Brown and he wanted to be just like him. He did James Brown moves.
The James Brown video you should be showing here is his incendiary performance at the 1964 TAMI show--ESPECIALLY during "Night Train." That performance will never be equaled by anyone!! The Rolling Stones had to follow his act during that show and they were scared so shitless they didn't want to go on!! Elvis Presley had a home movie theater where he would watch that particular performance constantly!! I dare say if you were to put that performance on here and ask people to vote on who's better James Brown wins in a bigger landslide than Reagan over Mondale in 84!!
Rick Collins I'll say it again-- the James Brown performance on the TAMI awards show--(ESPECIALLY his dance moves during "Night Train")--as great as MJ was (and he truly was a brilliant talent)--he never did anything that equaled JB's moves during this show. And this was 20 years BEFORE MJ rose to superstardom!! No JB--no MJ--it's that simple!! (And I think MJ would be the first to admit it!!)
nyterpfan Nobody is saying that MJ didnt admire JB. But that doesnt mean JB was better. But I will go and checkout that video you mentioned above. (TAMI awards show)
Well its like this when your the first your the best of all time because it can only be one first and the bar was set high now did Mj perfect a alot more ya but both have their own style Rick Collins
I'm a huge Micheal Jackson fan but i'm also a huge James Brown fan. Micheal is a copy of James with a little of his own style. Watch Mikes concerts and you can see the foot work it's all James especially on you wanna be starting something. Remember the creator is always the best because he did created it..Mike was more flashy with it. Both are the best James then Micheal ...
@@saisamhitamokkarala2980 There will never be another Michael Jackson. Yet credit must be properly given to James Brown's influence. Have you ever seen James Brown's footwork, floatng across the stage? Both James and Mike were innovators. Michael Jackson perfected everything he learned. He was also creative and crafted his own style of dance moves. However, even the "Moonwalk", though a perfected, trademark move of Mike's was not created by him. It hails from the pop locking dance groups of the 1970s. Remember, Fred "Rerun" Berry's group? Incidentally, check out this concert footage from a, then 40 year old, James Brown, and see why he was such a major influence on the likes of Michael Jackson, and Prince. Some people of a certain age are familiar with comical parodies of an older version of James Brown, but this footage shows why he was known as "the hardest working man in show business", and a consumate perfectionist. Check it Out! Ciao!!! ruclips.net/video/4N-NrucQcB8/видео.html
The hand can survive without the glove. Without the hand, the glove has no foundation. Without the hand, the glove has no purpose will lie there, empty and void of life.
My son says Michael Jackson, and I'm not sure. You gotta love James's footwork, but Michael's robot in the last clip is pretty special. The moonwalk, too.
Ok everyone love Michael..Michael couldn’t touch James brown people get real James was 💯 natural know rehearsing James dance how the music took him. Michael Rehearse his dance moves..,
James Brown more instinctual , free and less various moves - natural survivor Michael Jackson more control and imagination - delicate genius Brown is strong and simple and Michael is delicate and complex - both superstars genius
@@NotJoegoldberg well bruno is a really good dancer. Bruno and mj are on the some what of the same level of dance with mj being better by a little. But Jason derulo and Chris brown take it a step better by doing break dancing and flips such as, headstand (standing on your head), Headspins, acrobatics, headspins, handhops (handstand while hopping on your hands and kicking your legs) and as far as Jason derulo other styles of dance that hes studied is ,jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary and other types of dances. I haven't researched what the other have studied. But yea in terms of dance Jason derulo and Chris brown can do things mj and bruno can't and not to say they can't dance bc obviously mj and bruno are great dancers but Jason and Chris dances are more dangerous too.
James brown is a GENIUS, but i must say the pupil supassed the master, cause Michael Jackson did James brown better that James brown himself. He enhanced the james brown footwork and made it more complicated and amazing. Both are legends, RIP ♥♥
Kawamanimes Maybe he's done it but I've never seen MJ throw down a split. They each have their unique moves. Could watch them both for hours. JB has those rubber legs though. MJ wins doing the robot by a mile.
srg914 then you haven't done your homework. MJ did splits very well with hurricane spins. Love James Brown but MJ carried dance way farther than anyone he studied. He was more flexible and could adapt to any style of dance. That isn't true with his predecessors. MJ tops this.
Each was the best of their time, however Mike had the advantage of studying the the career of his mentor, while the mentor was in his own right, a CREATOR!!
No James Brown, no Michael jackson. He idolized James brown as a kid. He may have been more theatrical and sensual than James brown and no one could argue with his title as King Of Pop. Let's remember that world wide media coverage and promotion was much greater in MJ's time than JB's, also that James was absolutely devoted to and a product of black culture. Say it loud / I'm black and I'm proud. MJ did the just the opposite - he denied his blackness by changing his appearance to appear more caucasian. James brown was The Godfather Of Soul and the inventor of Funk. MJ was a global phenomenon unmatched in his time, rightfully and deservedly so. Maybe the most talented pop artist of all time, certainly one of the top three most influential ever, along with Elvis Presley and The Beatles. But JB WAS Funk and Soul personified. He lived it and took it to his grave.
larry geetar MJ never denied his blackness. That is what tabloids and sensational media have always portrayed for you. Thats where ignorant people like you get your opinions from in the first place. Every interview he has done the same people ask him the same questions but no matter what is response is, its always the same reports. He has always said he is a black American and he is proud of it. His skin change was due to Vitiligo, If you dont want to believe or accept it then that is your own ignorance. Theres astronomical proof in photographic and video evidence and interviews from his dermatologist and family and friends. And the most important proof which is his Autopsy report. Before you spout bullshit that has been perpetuated by racist and outlandish media who viciously attacked and bullied MJ his whole life you should do your research.
LOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!! I just love seeing Michael dance. No matter how I'm feeling, Michael is the remedy. I am forever grateful to James Brown and Jackie Wilson for giving us Michael.
James Brown is better at improvising and dancing freely. But MJ seems to know way more about momentum in dancing. For example, notice how Brown maintains almost the same style of dancing (quick and insane free style feet moves), while MJ varies a lot (free style, slow-mo, moonwalker, robot, etc), and does so at the melody of the music, which makes for a great spectacle. They are both kings, each on his own style. And yes, MJ took a lot from Brown, but who doesn't? the man is a freaking genius, and new generations always borrow from the previous one.
New gens always borrow doesn't excuse us from the q at hand. The q was who is the "better performer". Not the "better dancer." James Brown was a true originator, where as MJ was a pop artist. We understand that pop is derivative, where what James Brown did, and did so wholly and soulfully, was original.
This is rather unfair. James do the splits twice in heels and just bounce right up. the video of James was pretty lame considering that he did much better dance moves than those
In round one at 3:06 Michael is doing James Browns signature move form the TAMI show! That's called "fighting the others guys fight" instead of doing what it is that YOU do....JB Influenced everyone!
Michael won, michael learned how to dance not from James Brown, but from hardwork and practicing! James Brown does the mash potato dance that he didn't create! Michael Jackson created his own dance moves!
Could have gave James Brown a better round 2 because he hardly did any dancing in that clip. Having said that, James Brown is better because their wouldn't be a MJ, Prince etc without James Brown.
Yea everyone knows James is mjs inspiration but the question was who is better and everybody knows the king of pop is the king for a reason...Michael is better than James Brown but that doesn't mean James isn't good but imo James Brown looks like he's slipping in butter on stage but idk that's my opinion i still love him tho
codwinz boi Well, you can't have one without the other. Everything in this life has a cause and effect. I'm not saying Michael Jackson wouldn't be famous without James, because that isn't true. I'm just saying Michael Jackson had a great mentor in watching James Brown do his thing. As for best, I prefer to listen to Michael Jackson's music more than James Brown. It doesn't make him better than James Brown, it's just my opinion on who I would rather listen to over the other. They say Elvis is the king of pop, but to me, I don't like his music at all. It's not my cup of tea and I don't have the ear for it. Just because I don't like someone, does that mean he is less talented or famous than the other? You see where I'm going with this. In closing, we should just appreciate every artist for their music and stop comparing them to other artists.
+codwinz boi But he's not the king of pop for a reason, only because his fans say so. I didn't vote for him. Well how'd you become king then? "The lady of the lake, her arm clad in shimmering samite ... "
+MickyMicky Mike so true. James Brown was the originator. He grew up and became a success during Jim Crow laws (segregation times) For a black man to accomplish what James Brown did with an 8 grade education is astronomical. He came from the back woods of Georgia. Michael Jackson had it much easier than James Brown.
+Alan Hope yes but James Brown is the godfather of soul and was nicknamed Mr Dynamite. ( round three titles: JB wins with two titles) also MJ and others of the same style were influenced by JB so with out JB no MJ ect.
James Brown and Michael Jackson complimented each other nobody can touch em both were friend's tight respect I think they would be disappointed by the comments and this video to be quite honest Michael and James had so much respect and love for each other there's no competition let them breathe they've done so much for music and dance The Godfather Of Soul and King Of Pop he ultimately became King Of Dance every dancer gave their crown to em but that doesn't mean James is nothing within Godfather Of Soul title there's dance his own style Mike had his own in the world of dance if nobody copying James it's Michael I consider them A Dancer's Dancer dream I love them and respect their music they became equal
Comparing James Brown and Mike is like Comparing MJ and Kobe. They are spawns and proteges. Wouldnt be a Mike Jackson without James Brown and wouldnt be a Kobe without a MJ.
With out James Brown there wouldn’t have been funk music , the man is the most influential artist in the history of black music, not many can close to this man.
They’re completely different to me. I can’t even compare. They both were amazing in their own eras.
Yaas...
Of course. But dont forget than Michael and Prince declared thatJames was their more important influence, especially at the stage. It is obvious. You cant deny. Thank u.
They both are the two best performers this world will ever know! Hands down. No argument here.

Clearly if you check at the beginning of Michael's career away from the Jackson 5 Astaire was more like his Mentor so to say.

@Michael Jackson Yeah and before Michael Jackson there was James Brown
@Michael Jackson stfu dumbass

Everyone after MJ goes too hard w/ sex symbol shit. Bruno Mars and the Weeknd kinda do justice to their influences but I don't see anyone ever topping the two greatest Prince and MJ

Check out that fancy foot work. James is the godfather of soul but Michael perfected the moves and took it to another level.
@Victoria Dupree Best answer all good but yours definitely sweet.
Something you always have to remember is that there was only one James Brown. But you always have to remember that there was also only one Michael Jackson. In my eyes the two greatest Entertainers of all time. Thumbs up for both of them
For being so quiet and shy offstage, Michael was smooth af onstage.
Michael great dancer and performer, no doudt... but James Brown... more swag, more funk in the trunk, soulful... the original mover and shaker... i have seen a million people copy MJ's moves... i have never seen anyone move like JB
You've never seen anyone move like James Brown? Ever heard of Michael Jackson?
Michael J. Jackson He copied James!!!!
Yellowkid FortyNine No, he took what James did and made it better. Both James and James' son have said that.
micheal was great no doubt, but james in his prime was a way better dancer and singer than micheal. so if micheal and james had been at their prime at the same time, then james would have won by landslide. But I loved em both, to bad they were both slaves to the powers that be in the end.
have you seen tuxedo with jackie chan?
James started it Michael took it added more and mixed it with his own uniqueness.. Nice
.. but James Brown he's fire

James was the King of Moves and Michael the King of Pop... Greatests artists no comparison.
They were unique
lilyStars NO. MICHAEL JACKSON IS ALSO THE KING OF MOVES.
*King of Funk that's the difference with James and Michael. It's an evolution of dance, entertainment, music and also audience. Like passing down of generational techniques and it keeps adding each time.
@@moisepicard5883 there is no king of moves. Someone's always bettee then you
Different eras, different styles...both were legends IN THEIR OWN TIME...can't compare the two.
😂 This was great!!
I doubt it.
James Brown vs, Michael Jackson. We win!!!!!!
MJ king of the moves but let's be honest he took a lot of those moves from Brown rip to both kings
michael got some moves off james, but you musn't forget that michael was a superb tapdancer, also helping to create locking and popping dance and the breakdance ;) he also outdanced james brown in his own james brown dance, james brown said that.. hooo, and of course the HUGE influence michael had in the dancing world

MJ won!!!! lol But he learned from James Brown so..... He just studied the masters and became greater!
as Humble as MJ was he would have just let James win.... lol

Both are winners in my book, however Micheal admits he learned from James Brown. James Brown is it fo sho!
Michael actually learned most of his moves from Jeffrey Daniel.
James brown is a legend for sure he is one the goats but I gotta say there’s no one like the king mj.
If we judge the better dancer, I'd say if you put Michael on broadway he could almost hang with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire...If you put michael in street and b boys, he could hang with them. If you mIchael in ballet, his frame and flexibility would have allowed him to excel. Michael could do James Brown exactly like James Brown and was a lil faster in his prime.
lol when Michael threw the hat. the person who caught that must be so lucky
James' moves were more energetic and explosive whereas Michael had great control of his body so his moves looked practiced and perfect. Both exciting performers and we are fortunate to have experienced what they expressed in their own way.
Highly practiced. James just went with the feeling.
I say Mike.
Both are masters, but MJ clearly won in this. But of course the student has learned well from the teacher!
No better performer, the amount of soul and passion both of these entertainers are capable of producing is untouchable. lets just give praise to both as The greatest performers of our time. unless you can name anyone else who could get down like them.
Of course James is great but Michael much much far better than any one of them ..he is more improvised..love you Michael..😘😘🙏

I think that Michael Jackson is the greatest of all time, however James Brown is one hell of a performer as well
Rasheem Stewart I love James Brown I grew up watching him and know one could touch him UNTIL MJ came along yes he stupid James and he admitted that but I have to give MJ his props he took what he learned and did it better just because James was the originator don't mean that MJ didn't do it better I have seen original artists do a songs and someone took that same song and did it better it is not far fetched really it's not and MJ took what he learned and he did do it better he is the greatest entertainer ever hit the face of the earth my opinion. Jackson wins hands down. He makes it look natural and unnatural at the same time the mans a genius
JB vs.
Right on!
+florence mansty but see a lot of James issues came from his childhood and teen years....mj's problems came wen he was already a established artist
+dangerousblablao yea but JB influenced the so called greatest dancer of all time...MJ & prince who doesn't get much respect as a dancer
Get up off of that thing!!!
M. J said that he watched J. B growing up and learned from him. They both worked hard !!! Both of you RIP .
But James Brown is the Greatest!!!
i dont agree if we talk about dance, michael got some moves off james, but you musn't forget that michael was a superb tapdancer, also helping to create locking and popping dance and the breakdance ;) he also outdanced james brown in his own james brown dance, james brown said that.. hooo, and of course the HUGE influence michael had in the dancing world
" michael jackson is not only one of the greatest dancers ever, he is the most influential of the 20th century" baryshnikov
Only mj is greatest and James is great all are great
The James Brown video you should be showing here is his incendiary performance at the 1964 TAMI show--ESPECIALLY during "Night Train." That performance will never be equaled by anyone!!
MJ did shit with his body that seemed unimaginable. They both great but MJ

You can't compare the two! James set the stage for Michael, but both were in different eras. Both were the greatest for their time.
Exactly...it's funny to judge who's better..
Love them both but James was all it to me.
No James Brown, no Michael jackson. He idolized James brown as a kid. He may have
been more theatrical and sensual than James brown and no one could argue with his
title as King Of Pop. Let's remember that world wide media coverage and promotion
was much greater in MJ's time than JB's, also that James was absolutely devoted to
and a product of black culture. Say it loud / I'm black and I'm proud. MJ did the
just the opposite - he denied his blackness by changing his appearance to appear more
caucasian. James brown was The Godfather Of Soul and the inventor of Funk. MJ
was a global phenomenon unmatched in his time, rightfully and deservedly so. Maybe
the most talented pop artist of all time, certainly one of the top three most influential
ever, along with Elvis Presley and The Beatles. But JB WAS Funk and Soul
personified. He lived it and took it to his grave.
Vitiligo.

larry geetar Unmatched? One word, Prince.
larry geetar MJ never denied his blackness.
Before you spout bullshit that has been perpetuated by racist and outlandish media who viciously attacked and bullied MJ his whole life you should do your research.
larry geetar you are so silly to say that

Michael Jackson always
This is rather unfair. James do the splits twice in heels and just bounce right up. the video of James was pretty lame considering that he did much better dance moves than those
James and Michael are différent style we can't compare . James his the fastest dancer than Michael . But Michael always have a new thing to show
James BROWN, Michael Jackson, ALL FROM THE SAME GOD Mix.....can't HAVE ONE, WITHOUT the OTHER......MUSICAL GUSTO.....
In round one at 3:06 Michael is doing James Browns signature move form the TAMI show!
That's called "fighting the others guys fight" instead of doing what it is that YOU do....JB Influenced everyone!
It depends on what time zone you was living in they both are bad, there is no wonder they both Kings
Michael won, michael learned how to dance not from James Brown, but from hardwork and practicing! James Brown does the mash potato dance that he didn't create! Michael Jackson created his own dance moves!
James worked with the rythem and drop more but Michael just had that fluid way of feeling the music. They both had God level swagger with it tho.
( round three titles: JB wins with two titles) also MJ and others of the same style were influenced by JB so with out JB no MJ ect.
brown is the best ! brown is teacher of michael jackson!!!
Michael is best of the bests because brown style-dance!
we will never have 2 artists like this ever again, may both R.I.P.
James Brown and Michael Jackson complimented each other nobody can touch em both were friend's tight respect I think they would be disappointed by the comments and this video to be quite honest Michael and James had so much respect and love for each other there's no competition let them breathe they've done so much for music and dance The Godfather Of Soul and King Of Pop he ultimately became King Of Dance every dancer gave their crown to em
but that doesn't mean James is nothing within Godfather Of Soul title there's dance his own style
Mike had his own in the world of dance if nobody copying James it's Michael I consider them A Dancer's Dancer dream I love them and respect their music they became equal
and this video is bias by showing mikes more uptodate stuff and james old stuff james had way more grooves than what was shown
James was a Legend but Michael did even Greater. "If a student does not exceed the teacher then the teacher's teaching has been done in vain"
Both geniuses win. Don’t you get it?
One thing I will always love about JB is he NEVER grabbed his privates or did any overtly nasty moves, just great dancing.
Yeah but he was a woman beater I hear, but I love JB, Michael wasn't
corneil Madison he was?
Um Micheal Jackson didn’t grab his private he just put his hand over it and touching his pants
corneil Madison Yeah but he was a predator of an underage boy,I hear but I love Michael, JB wasn’t
MJ is alwaysss the best dance performance... The way he dance move is so amazing and great than James brown....
Fan from the Philippines 🇵🇭 💕
Comparing James Brown and Mike is like Comparing MJ and Kobe. They are spawns and proteges. Wouldnt be a Mike Jackson without James Brown and wouldnt be a Kobe without a MJ.
With out James Brown there wouldn’t have been funk music , the man is the most influential artist in the history of black music, not many can close to this man.
