    Thank you for people's testimony. When I was a kid and lived in Ukraine my mom always prepared some food in cold storage, canning and when we did not have any money to buy or get food for family, our parents could feed us with what we had, One time I remember when youngest ask something, mom said to pray and next morning we have a man come with that kind of food what he prays. I always said my sibling you do what you can do, but God will do what we cannot do. Do not be lazy to prep, it is our responsibility as Christians and parents to take care of others.

      I have similar stories from the time things were really tough when mom was no longer able to work for a certain establishment due to moral reasons and she was having a hard time finding a job because she was overqualified for everything. Just when our cupboards were down to only Ramen and Bisquick, someone would anonymously drop a box of food on our doorstep or money in the mailbox. God always came through and used others to do so.

    100% correct…life can throw a curveball at anyone, anytime. One day is all it takes for a life to be completely turned upside down and everything is lost. 😔

    Hello Heidi from Central Lakes Region ⛵⛵ New Hampshire. Thank you for sharing these stories. I learned to stock up with sales, bulk buys and canning as food security insurance. Started doing my homework in earnest, back in March 2020. Grocery stores were running short of certain foods. I started with dry pantry items that had a long shelf life, dry pasta, beans, rice and expanded to baking supplies, especially yeast. That flew off the shelf! Started collecting Ball canning jars and canning supplies. Now we just replace what supplies have depleted. We finally have a comfortable back up plan in place. A little prepping can go a long way ~ Diane

    Canning has changed my life! I keep learning new or old ways of canning complete meals, soups, meat, veggies, broth, dried foods like mentioned in this video. Buy in bulk or when on sale. I’m learning to garden and grow food to can and eat fresh. When we have no money we find full meals in my cabinets. It’s like finding gold when you’re hungry. Right now it’s over 118• outside so cooking is not something we want to do as it heats up the house. We just pull out a can of whatever and heat it up quickly. It’s a small step but I’m still learning 😊

    A lot of people don't know, either, or forget that stores regularly sell dehydrated foods as "quick" items. Any sort of ramen has all-dehydrated stuff in it, not to mention spices and raisins and such. If we can soak a handful of dried noodles and some dried herbs for a few minutes to make a meal, we can do that with any dehydrated food.

    Do you have a list of things you dehydrate at certain times of the year? Like oregano- May, onions- July, orange peels- December. Something along those lines…

    • @RainCountryHomestead

      No specific list, it simply goes by what I have coming in from the garden or what produce and such is available to purchase

    It took hearing that ladies story about surviving on dehydrated foods to realize that boxed stuffing mix, and boxed tabouleh mix and soup mixes and such others, are literally just dehydrated foods. I mean I have realized hey this is just a box of croutons back when I used to buy stuffing mix. So...I'm going to make my own stuffing mix! In other words, I'm going to cube the leftover bread next time I have it, let it dry out and save it in a jar until I want stuffing. Then all I will have to do is add dehydrated veggies and broth powder. My goodness why haven't I ever thought of drying out leftover bread before! You can even add dehydrated sausage and bingo, you have just kicked it up a notch into something special.

    Small portion protein is currently my need. It's hot but humid, so struggling to get quarter pint jars done up for simple quick additions for preps.

    Whenever I hear food fatigue I have to think of wartimes. People ate potatoes 3 times a day for months, thankful they had potatoes. We are spoiled😊
    And then some of those old people still make these potato meals today,just not so regularly anymore, guess it can grow on you just like abundance.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  28 дней назад +1

      I am sure the difference is that potatoes are easy enough to change up, add different spices and so on to reduce food fatigue but I have had people who have been through real hard times, including myself when I was in my early teens, that had to eat the same two things over. Since Ramen was only a few cents a package, that is what we consisted off of much of the time and I loved it at first but was not long before I could not stand it anymore

    I have a question. Can you dehydrate butter, or do I have to buy freeze-dried? Please help me with the answer to this question. Thank you

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Месяц назад +1

      Since butter is mostly fat, no, you cannot dehydrate and I highly doubt it can be freeze dried. You can buy butter powder but a totally different drying method is used for that
