  • In addition to the follow up of our last video I pull out some tips to help all of you out this year. I know there are a million "shed antler hunting tips" videos out there already but this one will focus on whitetail deer in Appalachia. Stick to the end to see some Epic Footage that came off the game cameras.

All good tips ! In my area in the hills of Central NH where the deer densities are low and the competition can be high in the known areas, ya gotta get out early and put on the miles, even if just for recon purposes.I probably average at least 5 miles of hiking for every shed I find and that’s on a good year. Last year was my best season and I only found 14 and I logged over 120 miles of hiking in the hills from Jan thru April. Heck I used to not even start until April 1st but then it got to be I was just seeing boot tracks on all the trails and bedding areas. Now depending on the snow I will get out whenever I can for the exercise as much as for the sheds. Good luck finding those sheds.

My first day use to always be the day after the super bowl, but.. You have to hit public land early if you want a chance. As much as I hate to admit it... I kinda wish all states where off limits until an opening day like some western states. As of lately tho the winters here havent been bad enough to worry about putting a bit of pressure on the herds.

HuggyBear Tv You’re in PA right ? In NH our winters can be harsh with a ton of snow and I like to stay away from the bedding areas, right now we have very little snow as we had 2 days in the 55-60 degree range over the weekend lots of folks out looking.

PA-OH border. This property is in Ohio. Same weather treads here. I dont think we have had more than 1 inch of snow so far this winter and the past 2 weeks have stayed above 40 with a few in the high 60s.

@davefrymire3552 Hi Dave, we’ve been thinking of relocating to E. Tennessee after my wife retires. We have friends down there and it is a beautiful area and quite frankly I’m getting a little tired I’d these 5 month long winters. 21 Sheds in a month is awesome, congrats on that. We’re in the process of trying to train a new pup to be a shed hunting dog. I put up a few videos of the process earlier this year but then the snows got deep and we are getting more as I write this so my shed hunting probably won’t resume until the end of March since I’m pretty sure all the antlers have dropped. Good luck finding more !
      Don

Training a shed dog would be a great video.
Another tip is scout areas to shed hunt since food sources and mild or harsh winter's can change deer patterns.
    Great video 👍

wow great video i looked for 1 and a half hours today in thick brush and didn't find anything, then watched your video went straight to a food plot and found a huge shed

🤣🤣 That's perfect!! Its hard not to get into that brush, you would think they knock antlers off going through it 🤷‍♂️ In reality they probably only walk through there once or twice a week, but they hang out at the food plot for hours each day 👌

You had some good tips there, but I'd like to had one more, zig zag the areas thoroughly that you think the deer are bedding in. Or feeding in. Like you said about stopping and looking back, it gives you a different view. 20 steps or so, stop look around, take your time and search thoroughly. Good luck in 2020.

@@dswish1730 Hopefully posted by Sunday before I travel to Detroit for a film shoot. My friend found one here in a Pittsburgh city park but that buck tends to drop early every year. All the other bucks as well as the ones on my Ohio farm are still wearing them. I wont look on my property till I see a bunch of scabby foreheads on my cams, it's too easy to push them over to the neighbor's land 🤣
