Having the same problem with mazda protege 5 , sometimes it wont start for a while ,then it starts fine after multiple tries, battery is fine, starter is fine ,changed ignition switch, changed neutral switch, cleaned alot of wires with contact cleaner, im at my end with it..
@@kentmocc If you can start car on neutral then its the ignition switch. Now i have an automatic so these are the stops i took before finally getting it to work correctly, i should of done last srep first as it would of saved me time and money, but it was a learning process and i hope it works for you.. the easiest thing to start with which was my problem that fixed it was the battery terminals change both out if you have not already, now heres the problem i had with that when i changed terminals and cut wire to put on new terminal i wrapped both the wires on positive and put it on terminal, i did the same on negative side it worked like for for awhile til i started getting intermittent starts, so first i changed ignition switch , because i could start on neutral on the old ignition switch so that was the case, 5 months later it started again so i figured bad ignition switch again so i changed it and nope , it kept on , second thing i did was change neutral safety switch on transmission(automatic) but it wasnt that, if you have an automatic the way to tell is to look at lights on instrument panel if you dont see a box outlining park then your shifter cable is not engaging because of bushing is broke , or wire on shifter is stretched out or neutral safety switch is bad, but if the box highlights r,n ,d then most definitely bushing is cracked or just fell off , its plastic... i took starter off had it tested and it was good, still having same problems, i cleaned all the contacts on starter and still problems, now on the fuse box in engine bay ,i took out the fuses for ignition and cleaned the contacts with cleaner same issue, went more in depth and took the whole fuse block off and cleaned all the plugs with contact cleaner, same problem.. yo i prayed because i was fed up , and just like that an idea popped in my head and it was to seperate the wires on battery terminal instead of having then wrapped together. So i bought 4 batter plugs copper from auto zone , and crimped them on each cable, then on terminal which you can also buy at auto zone they have 2 screws on each one ,just loosen each screw and put a copper terminal on each side and tighten back up , make sure you get 1/4 hole, the others are way too big the 3/8 and 5/16, and now praise God it works as it should, so start with the easiest .. God bless

Were you able to fix your issue ? If so, what was the problem?
