    thank you for editing the language. Martin Luther KIng once said, "A person uses bad language when that person does not have the intellegence to choose the correct word". When my students used bad language, I just looked at them and they said, "Sorry Mr. Mike, it slipped."

      Not to be the devils advocate but harvard just came out with a 40 year long study that found that high performance people swear more lol.

    Really enjoyed this video and having someone else to watch what you’re doing and maybe be able to see things from a different angle that you physically cannot see is a a great help. Also you obviously enjoy each other’s company and you can bounce ideas off each other it all makes the day easier and go faster. Best wishes from the UK ❤

    If you’ve never sworn at a horse….you haven’t worked around them long enough. 😂 My guys are barefoot & retired these days, but I do miss hot shoeing. Farrier day is still my favourite day every 6 weeks.

    It's called a frog because it looks like a frog. It also dries out during the summer and gets the same texture as a frog

    I really enjoyed this video, Caleb. My farrier went to that convention, by the way. As a CJF, he always tries to attend to learn any new techniques that are our there. He believes in constant learning, as the industry is changing so often. I wonder, does this horse get shod all around? And it's always great to have an extra set of eyes to tell you where you are going wrong. Like when you were doing the burn on the left front. John was able to tell you exactly what was wrong with that shoe, and you were able to correct it immediately. As for the quarters being slightly tight on the shoe, don't worry about it. You'll get it right with more practice the more you shoe. Especially hot shoeing. You'll get to the point that you'll see it before you nail it on. I have faith that you'll get it right!! Jack sounds like an ex-girl friend I had. Key word "ex". lol It's good that there is individuality in everything, but like you said it's good to remember to learn. Good job with Jack. Good boy Jack. I respect non-comformity. I taught almost 50 years at an at-risk, low-income high school for non-comformists that were not a good fit for the rah-rah, sis-bbom-bah traditionalists. I loved it. I used to be (and I think in some cases I still am) a non-conformist. keep up the good work. I envy the closness you two share.

    Don't worry about your language. It adds to the reality of the situation. Too bad John and Jack (and Hillary) don't live closer. I think your farrier videos are the best on RUclips.

    Great video, Caleb, your gentle voice is very easy listening and you explain it all really well, thank you! I know nothing about horses, never owned nor rode one, but I find it really interesting to watch, all that a farrier does and your knowledge is amazing. Sending love and best wishes for the new year, from Switzerland 🙏🥳🎉👍🏻💯🙋🏻‍♀️

    Did you pull the nails that you used to hold on the pad, or do you leave them? I met you at Reno, just didn’t put you as RUclips together with the hoof stands. Keep up the good videos, I’m learning lots from them.

    The worst horse is always the farrier’s. Have you ever used the Natural Balance shoes? I use them on everything I own. Super cool hat btw.

    • @caleberickson_The_Dying_Breed
      @caleberickson_The_Dying_Breed  8 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you badger built has the hats if you want one. I use to use the plrs but I've gotten to where I'm not a fan they're hard to shape, their nail holes are punched terrible. I am getting to where I prefer to heat steel up and modify it. In this case I pulled a set of plrs of this horse and put Kahn certifiers on and rockered the toe I can place the rocker exactly where I want.

    • @caleberickson_The_Dying_Breed
      @caleberickson_The_Dying_Breed  8 месяцев назад +1

      They're hard to shape which means that they don't properly fit the foot. The nail hole placement sucks. I can do more and do it better with a shoe modification

    LOL! Let's be honest, Jack knows he's bigger than you are and he uses his size and weight to play with you. Jack's a comedian. Aren't you glad Jack isn't a draft horse? I'm still laughing at his antics...But...have you guys considered having someone Jack likes entertaining him while you're shoeing him, say with small carrots and apple slices as he follows commands to be a good boy. We know Jack is smart and can follow commands. I've never met an animal that wouldn't follow commands for the right motivation. Does he like marshmallows? It doesn't mean he gets his favorite treat constantly, but he "knows" that the person holding him has those treats and will dole them out to him as he behaves through the process.
