Joe Bowman was an amazing marksman. A truly wonderful man who brought the imagination of western film entertainment to people live in person. He performed for royalty. He taught law enforcement his techniques. Designed boots, and quick draw holsters. He did so much in hollywood for acts such as John Wayne, Tom Mix, and Robert Duvall. Rest in peace to "The Straight Shooter"... To all the folks on here making fun of his outfit. Shame on you! He has always wore a fancy cowboy outfit throughout his years.

Joe was a wonderful guy. Decorated for gallantry in combat during WW2, he was a highly talented boot maker and leather craftsman in addition to being an expert marksman and straight shooter showman. He could toss a coin in the air, draw his pistol and hit it . Rest In Peace, my friend.

nope,,,i remember seeing him up close in a gun shop huntsville alabama years ago prior to his show at the civic center, three shots within 6 ft of me sounded like one. Munden does different shooting, his guns and holsters are modified, bob only had his hammer extended for easier reach. Look up ed mcgivern, 5 shots into a playing card at 15 ft unmodified pistol 2/5 of a second. ive not seen munden use unmodified pistols or shoot that accurately that fast,,,,,not saying he never did, only that ive never seen a video of him doing so with unmodified pistol,,,thanks,,,all these guys are stars in my book,,,

I always wondered where gun spinning came from and now I understand the practical uses for it. Never would've thunk. I feel like a lot of Kung Fu is kind of like this. Used to be practical, now it's more for theater and everyone forgot why they did it that way in the first place lol!

Joe was from Tennessee. He worked with many of the actors in early TV westerns and especially in the movies. As he said, he trained Powers Boothe as Curly Bill and also Michael Beign with the fancy gun tricks. He migrated to Texas and got a reputation as a fast draw professional. He worked on Young Guns ,The Quick And The Dead and a few others before retiring. He trained Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin. He trained Jerry Lewis as well..He worked with other fast draw professional trainers. A guy called Kid Colt tried to discredit him in a post a while ago. It's all baloney. Joe was as good as any and gave exhibitions as well as training.

Over seven decades ago, I spent my Saturday afternoons watching B Western movie Cowboy stars, with their "wonder horses," do their gun-spinning, win their fist-fights, hear bad jokes from their "cowardly" sidekicks, and sometimes sing to a pretty, young woman. Popcorn, cokes, and candy bars were all a nickel. There were always two cartoons, and sometimes a fifteen-minute serial (from the 1930s) and we sometimes sat thru the whole thing twice. That my friends, was the high-fashion, social event of the week for little boys in the early 1950s! And you think celebrities wearing badly, fitting gowns on a red-carpet mean excitement' HAH!

Guns are NOT toys. I understand the attraction, but it breeds a certain lack of respect for what they are designed to do. I shot a downed bison in the chest with a .45 SAA, and that slug literally destroyed the chest cavity.

U need to think back in time… before internet, before TV, before electricity was a common thing… back then, before toys stores existed, the circus and itinerant shows were IT! guns and a horse were the ultimate “FUN” for any kid. Of course they’re a dangerous as are many other “tools” but they are a lot of fun also: be IPSC, fast draw, fancy shooting, trap, collectibles, precision shooting, and so on…

The must be loaded to function. It is a weapon and must be ready for use by some one competent to handle it. Weapons are not safe things. Perfomance of any feat is counter intuitive with a empty gun and will cause a performer to be shot by any real man.
