  • Here I present what you must consider when using long blades, like Feather Professional, in your IBC Shavette.

Thank you for the info. I will keep this in mind for a future purchase.

That you for your review and pointed out that issue. Definitely, in my opinion, an aspect to considering in a possible acquisition of such shavette.

It would help to ask the company before buying if they have changed the length of the pegs in the meantime.

Thank you for the video. I'm thinking about getting one of these. I'll have to check my hand position next time I shave. Not sure it will be an issue for me or not, but I will certainly take this into consideration. Wish more folks would take the time to post "heads up" videos like this.

Thankyou for your comment. What does your hand position have to do with it? If you're not strictly into shaving with long blades, go get one! Best shavette in my opinion.

I had to re-watch the video to see what I meant by "hand position". I must be getting old, or was very tired when I posted that. I believe what I was referring to was weather or not my finger ever touches the spine of the razor while I'm shaving. If it doesn't, I wouldn't need to worry about the error in design that you mention. I don't believe it does by the way. In any case, I'd likely just use this for the regular half blades anyway. I have a couple of Artist Club razors - both a DX & SS for the long blade. I'm just cheap I guess. Will use a half blade a couple of times and recycle it. The feather long blades are too pricey to do that. Thanks for the reply!

I’m getting close to pulling the trigger on this, but was a little surprised by the price - gulp. Still, I do like the design, despite the issue you mention in this video. The problem that I have with the vast majority of shavettes is the possibility of slicing open your finger when loading and unloading the blade. I have a couple of Parker shavettes, and while I think they give a good shave, loading and unloading can be a nightmare. Just getting the blade properly seated can be a battle. From the looks of your video, this doesn’t appear to be an issue at all. In fact, it may be even easier to load than the Feather Artist Club series. Thanks again for taking the time to do this video. There’s very little info on this razor out in the “wild”, and I doubt I would’ve found it without this.

Thankyou for your comment. I say in the video that I wanted to use long blades and that that was a reason for buying the IBC. That's not the case anymore. I use half DE Feathers by now and am very happy with them. Don't forget that such a shavette is a once in a lifetime purchase. I bought mine when they were fairly new to Europe and payed around $ 140 for it. The latest price is around $ 95. Despite the flaw with the long blades it still is my go-to shavette because of its design and weight. It is very simple and also very easy to clean. No place for soap residue to hide in. I don't like the Feather Design and the price is pretty hearty as well. Nudge yourself and buy the IBC if you are happy with DE blades. Also using long blades is not impossible if you no what to watch for. :-)

@@RackwitzG Just wanted to let you know that I did pick up this razor about 10 days ago, and am very happy with it. About the only thing I'd change is I'd prefer it had a tad less blade exposure, only because sometimes I'm like a bull in a china shop when I shave. I'm been using shavettes for so long now, I no longer have the proper respect for them that I should have, and as I'm sure you know, that can result in... BLOOD. However I have not had that problem with this razor so far. It is a very well made product produced from quality material, and I look forward to using it for years to come. In fact, I've used nothing else since I got it. So thanks again for putting this video together. Even though it wasn't directly your intention to make pitch for Irving Barber, you brought it to my attention and I'm sure others as well. Hope you have a great day (or evening or whatever)!

yeah screw that, that would drive me insane also.

If you use half a DE there's no problem at all. The design is very simple and works great with DE. The screw doesn't scrape your face or anything if you shave at the correct angle.

Can you not get it tighter to eliminate the slip?

    • @RackwitzG

I have strong fingers, but the screw is not designed to be tightend ultratight.

Have you seen if the blade moves with the same manouvre when you put a half double edge blade?? I think this defect is very important

    • @RackwitzG

No. The DE is thinner and they work fine with the IBC.
