    I've used one of these to tow over the Transcanada highway between Vancouver and Calgary. It has held up on numerous motorcycles (KZ1000, BMWF650GS twin, ZX14, and BMW R75/5). I have put on thousands of km's with one of these and I've never had a problem. I have heard some people say it will wreck your transmission because the oil won't circulate, but I have never had a problem with any of my bikes afterwards. On my F650GS, I did have to watch the paniers, because on full-lock turns with my SUV, the bike leans so much that the paniers would skid on the road. Best to plan your trip and try to avoid "full-lock" turns. Make sure that when you snug down the front with straps that you don't bottom out the front suspension. Again, I haven't had a problem with fork seals, but you don't want to wreck your bike.

    You can also use carriage bolts which have a rounded head which will allow the front tire to fully engage inside the front wheel holder cage.

    I see a big problem with this kind of tow. Number one the rear wheel suspension and bearing are still in use. Since the oil pump is not working there is limited oil to lubricate the output shaft output shaft bearing and seal. I myself would not use this tow method unless it is a short trip less than 100 kms

    These cheap ones work, ,but you get the LEAN so badly it is almost scary. Also for those asking questions about lights...If you are pulling any trailer or vehicle that does not block your turn signals, brake lights and tail lights. You don't need extra lights. However if people cannot see the bike behind your car they could slam into it. That said, I always use a flag, and also tie on a blinking led flasher like that comes for bicycles. 2 of them. These will cause your bike to lean badly. The only way to keep that from happening is to create an outrigger that you can then tie the bars down to, and also the rear of bike to them as well. Keeping the bike straight keeps it from leaning badly and tilting to the point of being fearful it will fall over! Some tie the bars to the tow vehicle, Which only helps. But until you cinch the bike to some type of outrigger, you will have issues with dangerous leaning.

    I have one just got 2 weeks ago. One of the bolts broke that goes into the hitch., had to another bolt not come with a nut. No instructions included. So when I tried it this past weekend, never again. It trailer isn't stable at all. Driving and turning to see your bike almost on its side is scarey. The leaver to push the trailer up is hard to press down. I even bought extra straps because it came with 4 black straps that aren't good for anything. If you use this, only real short distance. I would not not not buy this, hate i did. You better off getting the one from uhaul.

      Nice, i used to have one of those elite 110's. Now riding a honda sh150i. Prefer the 110 honestly. For the scooter i would just get a moto carrier instead. The scooter is so light. The reason i got this was to haul my bike in a pinch, but the vstrom is 500lbs so a career would be too much weight on it.

    • @robertp9370
      @robertp9370 3 года назад

      @@VehicleHunter ok that’s what I’m going to do then but guess what. I found a tow hitch for my 2008 Corolla finally, plus a straight adapter for a 1.25” to 2” receiver. The you max toungue weight rating is 200lbs or 2000lbs towing capacity. The elite weighs like... 254 minus 12lbs if the gas tank is empty. so with the carrier and an extra 40lbs over the toungue weight rating I may be pushing it but I’m just going to get on of those stabilizer things plus a bunch of ratchet straps to tie it down. I may be 50-80lbs over the suggest tongue weight but I think my hitch and 2008 Corolla can handle the elite. Only going short distances anyway. I once towed a 383lb ninja 300 with a huge 60lb motorcycle carrier on a hitch rated for a 350lb toungue rate and it performed super well on my old Honda Odyssey that I sold. So I think it will be able to handle such a small scooter on my 08 Corolla. Plus the ground clearance is about 9”, which is an inch higher than a Toyota Sienna.

    • @VehicleHunter
      @VehicleHunter  3 года назад +1

      @@robertp9370 You have to be careful. The weight on bumps is transmitted to the hitch. There is a guy named vegasromaniac and he was doing that with his toyota yaris with dirt bikes. But he reenforced the hitch mount to the frame. You should consider that.

      It puts wear on the rear tire, but if you mean will the odometer increase the answer is no. Odometer reading is usually based on how fast the engine is turning while or the front wheel is turning. With the front wheel up and the bike off, no mileage increase on your odometer.

    I don't know how I feel about this product, the concept seems too good to be true. and it is as I bought one. What I did not like was the Ground clearance. its maybe 3-4inches off the ground and my cars suspension was drastically lowered, then again who hauls a motorcycle in a Prius. in this video it looks like its 2inches and he has a truck and can only imagine the road scrapings and sparks. you can make adjustments to the support arms however I felt it was unsafe for a 250cc on a 800 mile journey. Lets just say it was a Failed Idea , a mistake, and try to return it as fast as possible.

    • @patrickhimebaugh775
      @patrickhimebaugh775 2 года назад

      @@VehicleHunter something like a donut tire recommended for 10-20 miles till you repair your full size tire. That’s kinda the vibe I got. The sad mistake is that the 04 Prius needs rear struts replaced, never been done. So my 2 cents is that it depends on the car. The uhaul receiver hitch was a 1.25, I went to harbor freight for a conversion adapter to a 2in that extended it out, I also had a full tank of gas on the cycle. What I’m saying is that there are other factors to consider. Other people say that the Transmission is turning which affects the clutch. Then other reviews say they have had no problems with long distance. If it’s mixed reviews then I say try at your own risk. The video did help me, thanks for that totally much appreciated for how to put it together v hunter.

    Never liked these...mostly because the system does not articulate like a trailer would. This causes the bike to lean in turns and the rear wheel of the bike "chatter" as you go around any sharp corners. Puts a lot of stress on the bike and is scary as hell. Plus, the "jack" to raise the bike is crap if you have a heavy bike. I built one that articulates for my 1100 cruiser, but I only use it to haul the bike across town to my mechanic. Never would I consider taking it long distance.
