@@savemoneydiy4 Hi Mike, I can't believe this was two years ago. Crazy. Anyhow, I have a question, hopefully you see this. The fan in my daughter's room seems to be slowing down. I just walked in there a minute ago and although it was set to high it seemed as if it was moving at the lowest or close to it. Any idea why it would do that? Could it be a loose wire or maybe just the fan itself. I'm not sure where to start and the thought of taking it all apart is 😫😫😫 Lol
What kind of wall switch are you using…just on/off or does it have multiple fan speeds on your wall switch? We have multiple speeds on our switch, and once it looked like our fan was slower even on the high setting. Turned out it was because the pull chain for the fan had to be kept on high speed position, but it had been pulled and was on lower speed. If that’s the case -Turn wall switch to high -Reset the chain to off, then pull once more to be in high speed position If not that, it may be the fan motor getting weaker. Could it be wiring? Maybe but I kind of doubt it. Wiring tends to be either totally working or not at all. I hope this helps!
@@savemoneydiy4 Ugh, completely forgot I turned off my notifications for RUclips so I missed this earlier. Sorry. It's just a regular on/off switch. After a little research I thought maybe it was the bearings, although I never in my life remember having to lubricate a ceiling fan. But, who knows, so I tried that with a TINY bit of motor oil. 😬 But, although the fan seemed to turn smoother after a while of being on high it just completely stopped. I left it off most of the day. I do think the motor definitely has an issue b/c I'm pretty sure I did the wiring good. Thank you for the response, appreciate you!

Hi we have both in our house and are happy with both. The 42" Walmart Mainstays we have in three rooms that are about 10x11 feet each. It's good for this size of room. The 52" Armitage is in a room that is about 15x18 feet. We first had the 42" Mainstays in this room, but it didn't blow the air around enough so we traded for the larger 52" Armitage.
Not if your wire colors are the same as in the video. White goes to white. Some houses have older wires and/or different colors. You can browse comments for some external references on that.
Great vid - thank you! We have three of these. Had them for a few years now, but 2 of them make an awful humming noise and one has even started making a buzzing noise at points when it's on the slowest setting. Both forward and reverse flow. Do you know whether these have an oil hole anywhere? I can't find any info that states if they need lubricating. Thank you!
One pull chain is for the fan, the other is for the light. If your fan is on low speed, pull the fan chain and it should slow down until it stops. Pull again for high speed. Again for medium. Again for back to low. If that doesn’t work, do you have a dimmer switch? If so, turn it all the way up then try the chain again. If still no, you may have a problem with the fan.
@@savemoneydiy4we were successful in installing this fan in one go, thanks to your super helpful video. Thank you! And we were two noobs to home stuff.
The fan doesn't work unless I flip the wall switch to on . So I have to use the pull chain to turn off light to use just the fan or visa versa. Any ideas There is a red wire also in the ceiling box and only one wall switch. I have same setup in two other rooms and I don't have this problem. Any ideas? Thank you.
The way you describe it pulling the chains for either light or fan is how I would expect it to work with a single wall switch, sounds like it’s working as intended. Wondering how your other rooms are wired...does the fan turn on without the wall switch turned on? It has to draw power from somewhere, maybe it’s wired to a second switch that’s on or some kind of active connection always on without a switch? But the red wire in ceiling box is for the ceiling fan’s light, which you use if the light and fan will be controlled separately (like a combo switch). I didn’t put pics of switches in this video, but there are in my other video, start at 3:19 ruclips.net/video/yq5lPkVtzDQ/видео.html Sorry don’t have a complete answer for you but hope it all works out. Let us know if you figure something out. Thanks!
@@savemoneydiy4 Thank you for the reply. Yes in 3 rooms fan operate whether wall switch is on or off. Difference is the fan I can't control is in Florida room which was an addition to the house some years ago. Well it's not a critical issue, So I'll leave it as is. Just though there might be a simple solution. Once again Thank You :)
Wiring for the house can be different, especially if the home is older. Wiring for the fan could be different, just have to check the specific fan you are working with.
Hmm ours were pretty easy. They were in tight, but not tough to get out. Does your screwdriver match up well with the screws? Try a thicker or thinner screwdriver head, it might help. And stay straight on with the screw, don’t come in at an angle. Hopefully it works for you!

I have a good question do the metal box has to be ceiling fan rated box or can it just be a regular standard box that originally came with the house?....
Yes good question. Keep in mind the weight of your ceiling fan. The one in this video is pretty light weight, definitely under 50 lbs. Here are some pages that might help: diy.stackexchange.com/questions/21082/how-to-tell-if-a-ceiling-junction-box-is-braced-to-hold-the-weight-of-a-ceiling www.houzz.com/discussions/2970384/does-this-look-like-a-ceiling-fan-rated-electrical-box
Hey man i have a problem . I dont have a bare wire . only thing thats coming out of the ceiling from were the light was is. 1 black wire and 2 white wires. The fan I have is the same thing as yours. What do I do to make it work?
A multimeter may help figure out what these wires do. Here’s what I would try, though as soon as I got uncomfortable with it I would call for an electrician, so proceed with caution and at your own risk. Also risk of shorting out the fan and breaking it if wires are connected wrong, so again proceed at your own risk. With power on to the room (careful!) you can test each wire. (Remember to turn the breaker off again before connecting wires later.) In general, you want to find the wires that are always hot - my guess it is the black one and one of the white ones, but could be wrong. If black is always hot, connect that to fan’s black wire. If one white is always hot, connect fan’s white to that one. If one white is hot only when wall switch is on, connect fan’s blue and red wires to that one. If a wire from the ceiling is never hot that is likely your ground. If no ground, take a look at these, and you may find other helpful info too. Good luck and be safe. diy.stackexchange.com/questions/29459/what-do-i-do-if-there-are-only-two-wires-coming-from-my-ceiling-electrical-box www.google.com/amp/s/answers.yahoo.com/amp/qna/20100406090119AAldgnb
Hi Mike. I want to thank you for your video but I have a couple questions that you might be able to answer. I do not have a ceiling light or any electrical supply except for plugs in the wall. I want to connect the fan with a "swag" type cord that plugs into the wall. Does this particular fan haave that cord? How do I hook this fan up using a swag plug in?
Bro, I tried and it was so simple to install. But when I turned on the fan and light, i could see a spark and it shorts. Why so? One update, my house wires are so heavy. So not sure even after I tug them it touches and shorts. Or could that be fans problem? It’s brand new though.
Hmm sounds like wires are hooked up wrong? Sounds like not your fault though. House wire colors may be wrong - like your black house wire is actually a white and vice-versa? Exchange the fan just tell the store you installed exactly like instructions said and it didn’t work. I would then get a pro to install the new one. Tell them what happened with the first fan.
Did this set have screws for the blade assembly for you cause my set didn't come with screws, lucky I could use the old screws on my old ceiling fan, not gonna deal with hassle of returning it to customer service, but still shitty.
The bracket needs something sturdy to attach to. Attaching just to a drywall ceiling is a definite no-go. Need a joist or something sturdy. But the junction box is also important for electrical reasons. It helps protect against fire risk in case your wiring ever comes loose. Check this out on junction boxes: diy.stackexchange.com/questions/82173/mount-ceiling-fan-without-electrical-box
Not sure what the max is, but I switched the LED bulb that came with it out for a 65w incandescent so I could use it with a combo light/fan dimmer switch, and it works just fine.
This was very helpful, however I would like to add something. Once the wiring part is finished and you are ready to mount the motor, the side that’s hanging while you finish the wiring STAYS in that hole and mounts to the bracket underneath, while the other side with 2 holes in the motor mount attaches on the underside, or the floor side. I finished the wiring, then took motor mount out because I thought both sides attached on the underside of the mounting bracket. In doing this the hanging side that goes into the hole to hang, which only has one attaching screw, would not tighten. After watching this video closely, I saw that you never removed the fan mount from the hanging hole, and therefore the receiving thread for the screw was in the correct position and it tightened right up. Initially I thought the receiving hole had been stripped at the factory, but not so. This was an easy mistake to make, you would think the fan would mount on the same side of the bracket, but it clearly does not. I hope I explained this clearly, I just want to save some one else from the same aggravation I experienced. Videos are helpful, but some things you just have to figure out yourself
Good eye, yes the “one-screw” side of the mount stays above the bracket while the “two-screw” side stays below the bracket. Thanks for pointing that out!
Please pin this comment. I could have saved so much time since the video (or the manual for that matter) didn't really explain that very specific thing. Thank you!
If your circuit breaker panel has breakers labeled for what area of the house they control, that really helps. Also test switches and outlets in the room after the breaker is off to verify there is no power to the room. Otherwise, you can turn all breakers off and that way you will be sure you’re safe. Good luck and stay cool!
In a small room yes. 100 sq feet room we are very happy with it. Had it in another room around 225 sq feet and it wasn’t blowing enough air around for that, so we traded for a 52” fan and it’s much better.
I installed one of these today and everything worked fine. But after running it for about an hour, it started to give off a burning smell. I checked all the wiring and it looks good. Is that smell normal with a new fan?
No, definitely not normal. If your wiring was straightforward and done right, then I would return the fan and try again with a new one. If still a problem, I would call a pro.

How do you change the speed on it? I just had mine installed but no breeze is coming from it, it is barely moving
This was perfect. I have the same original light as yours and I lost my instructions 😅
Glad it could help!
Thank you made my installation a breeze.
Cool! Glad to hear it!
I dont have red wire from ceiling so where I connect blue too?
Most likely the black wire. If no red wire from the house, you may not be able to do a combo switch? Watch starting at 2:36 and see if that helps.
Wow this was amazing
Thank you so much🤘❤️
You bet! Thank you!
I can’t get the 2 screws out of the bracket. Any suggestions??
Hmm are they stripped or just stuck? If stuck maybe some wd-40? If still no luck I’d get it replaced.
Tutorials are soooooo much better than figuring out written instructions from the pre RUclips age, lol, yes,I am that old.
You and me both! :)
Does this kit come with wire connectors or do I need to buy them separately?
Mine came with them
@@savemoneydiy4 that's really good to hear. Thanks for the reply. Gonna try and install it tomorrow 😁
@@savemoneydiy4we were successful in installing this fan in one go, thanks to your super helpful video. Thank you! And we were two noobs to home stuff.
Hello. Im installing a fan to a old house in san francisco. I only have black...red and bare wires. What do i do?
It's been 7 months, did you figure it out ?
See if anything here helps: diy.stackexchange.com/questions/29459/what-do-i-do-if-there-are-only-two-wires-coming-from-my-ceiling-electrical-box
Best tutorial yet! Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
Is the wire setup for the single light switch all the same for all ceiling fans?
Wiring for the house can be different, especially if the home is older. Wiring for the fan could be different, just have to check the specific fan you are working with.
The 4 screws on the side are impossible to take off! My husband and I are nearly stripping it! How did you take them out so easily??
Hmm ours were pretty easy. They were in tight, but not tough to get out. Does your screwdriver match up well with the screws? Try a thicker or thinner screwdriver head, it might help. And stay straight on with the screw, don’t come in at an angle. Hopefully it works for you!
@@savemoneydiy4 we think the factory just made ours a bit tight so we used a needle nose vice grip and it worked like a charm 😆
The McDonald’s on gudgell road in independence Missouri has these in the play place.
Does the green have to be connected because I dont see my ground wire
Hello take a look at this it covers some options for when you don't have a ground wire from the house: diy.stackexchange.com/questions/29459/what-do-i-do-if-there-are-only-two-wires-coming-from-my-ceiling-electrical-box
What color is the bare wire?????
Copper
@@savemoneydiy4 okay thank you I attempted to install my ceiling fan in my bedroom but it has a red wire and my light switch is a single light switch so stopped and left it alone until I can have somebody who knows why my single switch light has a red wire coming out the ceiling
Good call. When electrical is not straightforward best to have a pro look at it.
This video was a life saver!!!! Thank you!!!
You bet!
What if you only have 2 black wires... how are you supposed to do that

I have a good question do the metal box has to be ceiling fan rated box or can it just be a regular standard box that originally came with the house?....
Yes good question. Keep in mind the weight of your ceiling fan. The one in this video is pretty light weight, definitely under 50 lbs. Here are some pages that might help:

Unfortunately I am not familiar with how or if that could be done. Keep the question here, though, someone else may find it and have an answer.
Thank you for the clear directions
You’re welcome 😊
Problem could also be in the switch-house connection instead of the fan-house connection.
Did this set have screws for the blade assembly for you cause my set didn't come with screws, lucky I could use the old screws on my old ceiling fan, not gonna deal with hassle of returning it to customer service, but still shitty.
That’s a hassle. Glad it worked out though. Yes mine had the screws included.
Can you install the bracket directly onto the ceiling or you need to mount it to the junction box?
The bracket needs something sturdy to attach to. Attaching just to a drywall ceiling is a definite no-go. Need a joist or something sturdy. But the junction box is also important for electrical reasons. It helps protect against fire risk in case your wiring ever comes loose. Check this out on junction boxes: diy.stackexchange.com/questions/82173/mount-ceiling-fan-without-electrical-box
Hi,
What is the maximum wattage bulb that can be used with the fan?
Not sure what the max is, but I switched the LED bulb that came with it out for a 65w incandescent so I could use it with a combo light/fan dimmer switch, and it works just fine.
@@savemoneydiy4 Thanks for the info
Awesome video. Thank you. That was a time saver
Glad it helped!
This was gold!!!
Please pin this comment. I could have saved so much time since the video (or the manual for that matter) didn't really explain that very specific thing. Thank you!
Great video! Question: Should I turn off ALL of the possible circuits? If not, which exact ones?
If your circuit breaker panel has breakers labeled for what area of the house they control, that really helps. Also test switches and outlets in the room after the breaker is off to verify there is no power to the room. Otherwise, you can turn all breakers off and that way you will be sure you’re safe. Good luck and stay cool!
Simple install. Thank you.
You bet and thanks for commenting!
Does the fan blow decent air?
In a small room yes. 100 sq feet room we are very happy with it. Had it in another room around 225 sq feet and it wasn’t blowing enough air around for that, so we traded for a 52” fan and it’s much better.
I installed one of these today and everything worked fine. But after running it for about an hour, it started to give off a burning smell. I checked all the wiring and it looks good. Is that smell normal with a new fan?
No, definitely not normal. If your wiring was straightforward and done right, then I would return the fan and try again with a new one. If still a problem, I would call a pro.
