Most modern songs are ripoffs of better music from the past. It's either lazy writing or a sincere homage by fans turn musicians or the writers think modern fans don't know the original version and can pass it off as new. Sometimes nice to hear a modern take on an old sing. Sometimes it sounds better and sometimes it reminds you of a song you once forgot and brings you back to that song. Right or wrong when you copy old music the orginal artists deserves compensation and recognition.

Nicki Minaj is from New York therefore, I would say that the song is known by most people who know of it because of Tracey singing and the reggae remix to it. That’s where Nikki got it from it was a huge hit in the 90s, that’s why most people know the song you and everyone born after I’ll say 1995 may not know it, but that song was a crazy hit underground. Re: "Justify My Love", actually that wasn't the first song to sample "Security Of The First World" by Public Enemy. My Bloody Valentine had sampled that 2 years prior in 1988 on their track "Instrumental 2", which came with early vinyl copies of "Isn't Anything" but I reckon MBV probably did get permission to sample it.

I still don’t hear the similarity between “Deja Vu” and “Cruel Summer” but the Paramore one is pretty obvious aaaaand on top of that she took something from Elvis Costello all on the same album.
But I agree with Sheeran, all musicians borrow from other music.
I’m gonna add my own here. The Offspring completely ripped off…The Offspring on Can’t Repeat. Sounds like they can repeat because it’s just The Kids Aren’t Alright.

They are way too similar and you can easily hear it if you sing The Man Who Can’t Be Moved over his song. The Script filed a copyright lawsuit and it was settled out of court. He cried about it and called them names after they settled but really he was butthurt he got caught stealing from a great band.
