I'm actually surprised at the comment section. Typically comments following a BMW loss is denial, insults, "if the BMW had this and that", "bad driver" etc. But here, people seem to accept the reality. I almost can't believe it's real lol!

Each to their own. The Tesla is excellent from 0-60 and has a great 60' time - both recipes for success in the quarter mile. True performance enthusiasts have moved on from the quarter mile as a representation of straight line performance; it is simply biased towards 0-60, 60' times, and traction. 60-130mph times and 1/2 mile roll races are the new metrics for high performance cars. Metrics that Tesla's aren't tested in because their numbers are less than appealing.
Brooks always is straight to the point and has no filler nonsense or promo crap put in. Just great race videos with the best times out there. Often bettet than major auto journalist reviews like Motor Trend, Road&Track ect

I took a ride in my friends Model 3 the other day. I can honestly say the experience ruined all other cars for me. As I was driving home, all I can think of while looking at all the other cars around me is, "boy look at all these dinosaurs". Folks, you can't compare a Tesla to any of the modern cars. I should note I have always been a Tesla hater, until I actually rode inside one. Adapt to the future boys and girls.
Chip the BMW and it matches the Tesla quarter mile. Add a procharger to a $35K Mustang 5.0 and it does low 10's pushing 650 - 700 HP.

@@kairecords6148 On the Nurbergring track, BMW M3 and Tesla Plaid have = lap times. Majority of true racing enthusiasts don't give that much value in mere drag racing as it's a test of how deep your pockets you have. I personally would rather watch a race everyone driving the same exact bone stock vehicle on a circle track as it's a test of the driver not the vehicle.
I will concede an exception to my drag racing view for those nutcases willing to pilot a 10,000 hp funny car. Where it takes true 🏀🏀's to even subject yourself to such power and g forces of deadly potential risks. Yet, as I previously stated they are regulated of equal deep pockets and power.

first race was around 95%, after 93%, is was 2% of battery per race, this kept up for every race I did that day (I regened the length of the track though)
not until 80%, and only slightly, so we all think that Tesla is 'sandbagging' the P3D+ atm (I got 10 races in before I hit 80%)

Did you ever tried a Tesla? I think it would make you question the validity of losing more money on that BMW while also make you seriously consider to switch.
Be warned, lots of reports on the net, of now ex-BMW owners, that simply could not go back to their ICE vehicle after experiencing the revelation that was driving a Tesla.

I agree. I have never even touched a Model 3, but I sure as hell have watched all the videos about it :) It's said (and seen) in many videos that Performance version launches kinda softly and then starts pulling heavily. PxD:s start pulling like crazed apes instantly. I sure hope there will be an update at some point. Not a crazy one, but perhaps down to 2.9'ish.
a month after I bought my Model S P100D, it received a software update over wifi that shaved another tenth of a second off the 0-60, while simultaneously increasing its max range (due to an adjustment to the algorithm governing the regenerative brakes).
0-60 times and quarter miles times are what EVERYONE uses as metrics. The Model 3 doesn't overheat like the Model S and its lighter. It'll do much better on longer races with more turns than previous electric cars and probably much better than most ICE cars.
Also has a track mode for track metering lol
$10,000 more for a slower car that needs more maintenance, costs more to run, and will overall have a much shorter lifespan..... whoops.

The m3 does get a combined mpg of 20. While the model 3 gets ooo... 126mpg(e).... pretty close to the same on yearly fuel costs I'm sure

I can't stop driving my Performance Model 3 !!! I've got 1947 kms on the Odometer and I've only had it 9 days. I can't wait to go to the track (Toronto Motorsports Parkway) and drag AND do some timed laps around their circuit (w/ Track mode of course).
I was like that when I got my Subaru STI back in 2004. After one season I had to get the brakes replaced (O shit) OEM wanted $4000 but I was able to replace with aftermarket for $2500.
The good thing with the Tesla the brakes may last a lot longer do to the regenerative braking.
O yeah new tires after 2 years. Cost a lot of money to have a sports car. Kids and wife = no more sports cars, just a regular Model 3 (not a bad compromise).
Could imagine the 3 is more fun around a track than the S. It’s lighter, shorter and more nimble. Have fun!

Curtish8892 H Model 3 regen goes to 0.2g without track mode 0.3g with track mode, so the friction brakes will still be doing about 70% of the work on a road course. Still, should equate to 20 or 30% more friction brake life.
I'll take the Tesla anyday, here's why, how often are you on a drag strip or on a highway where you can max out your top speed unless you in Germany. So for me on a normal road, or UK motorway you ain't leaving me behind, I'd leave you at the lights and I'll pull away faster than you on the motoway doing 70 and you wanna try overtake me. This is just the beginning for electric cars, 5-10 years and they will be the norm as battery tech gets better.
Depends what you race. You can leave behind those with less power. Don't try to race a 911 Turbo though.

I wonder how well the BMW would drive if you had to pick just one gear and keep it there for the whole race. More than anything else, that little test truly defines why an electric motor is superior. At most, each race uses 500 watts of power. A Model 3P could do 20 races before any performance degradation took place. That's 20 times it would kick the M3's fender up and down the track before it needed to get a quick 10 KWh recharge. 2 hours to recharge? More like 50 minutes, tops, to recharge at a supercharger for every 3.5 to 4 hours or 300 miles of driving during a road trip. And anyone who owns one charges at home overnight, waking up with a full tank every morning. Do you have a gas station in your garage?

72k is Model 3 Performance with the Performance Upgrade option. The latter has 20 inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, Brembo big brakes, spoiler, etc.

FYI, Comparing the 72s at $250k to a $72k car is a bit pointless. The Tesla is fast. We all know it. The 720 is faster. But if you throw enough money at a car, the Tesla can be beat. At somepoint, you need to price categorize these cars for a reasonable comparison. The BMW comparison is fair for drag racing. Anything within $20k of the Tesla is fair game in my opinion.
To answer another posters question, I think a rolling start of 20 MPH would not help the BMW. That BMW would have needed 1/2 mile to catch the Tesla. Seems the gap between the two cars opened up until around half track (guessing 70 mph).
Wait for the $200k Tesla New Roadster. Will outperform Chiron, Koenigsegg, etc. at 1/10th the price. More range too.

Whether the sound a car makes is good or not is very subjective. Coming from a nice sound from a Lexus IS350 (had an aftermarket catback), I prefer my quiet Tesla P3D. The sound the battery makes inside the car is actually like a Tron sound, its very futuristic and makes you grin everytime. The car just puts you in the back of your seat every time. I'm not missing any loud muffler sounds. Try it before you diss it though, I now see why Tesla has so many fans. I think people who don't know the taste, need to taste it first.
That awesome sound comes from the motors, not the battery but I agree very futuristic sounding. Those who been in my Performance 3 are as blown away by the experience as I continue to be.
Tasted it plenty of times. Give me a loud ICE car any day of the week. 1/4 mile drag races are boring. Especially in those ipads on wheels. Absolutely no driver involvement whatsoever. You don't beat anything in one of those, the car does. You're just 'along for the ride'.

I still love seeing vintage cars at shows and have plenty of nostalgia for the days when cars like the '69 shelby cobra were in their heyday, and i still like seeing the newer cars but after driving the electric Teslas and learning more about them, I will never go backwards to an internal combustion engine vehicle. The Model 3 is by far my favourite car other than the model S. Doesn't matter which variable i look at, the electric car rocks. Zero emissions, made in north America, advanced technology, a car constantly improving with over-the-air updates, cutting edge engineering and plenty of superior performance.....and its SO much fun to drive!

I was racing everything, it was fun, the red ford gt(I think it was twin turbo'ed) was the craziest one though, he couldn't get traction, and as I was closing in to the end of the race, I see something coming at me making the craziest sounds I have ever heard, and pass and beat me by 40mph trap speed, wish I had this on video lol - I don't care for the wins or loss's, it's fun every time. I'll race anything (can't use the excuse for wasting gas anymore lol)

there is no way the BMW M3 has a chance. Model 3P has AWD and as Elon says you can pretty much get a perfect launch due to the E motor unlike an ICE.

Great video, thanks! In the beginning when comparing the prices, hp, etc, I would also include the total cost of ownership. It would be something like $90K vs. $150K (Tesla vs BMW) for 10 years. Just guessing.

Yea, you can spend more money on a car that is already more expensive...why not just buy a Bugatti and be done with it? You can also drop the Model 3 from a 3.3 sec 0-60 time to a 3.1 sec 0-60 time just by changing the wheels. Free future software updates may make it even faster. "Track mode" is coming soon!

Your information on Tesla 3 dual motor cost of 70K is incorrect. The model costs 58-60K (58K is standard black color, any other external color is 1.5K-2K). So, we are talking 20K+ price difference between Tesla 3 performance and M3.

@@carljr.99 Depends how long the roll race is. Have you seen the races when they run a dragstrip backwards on Tesla racing channel? A lot of drag cars that would normally beat it lose hard.

The only Tesla that can hang with Supercars is the P-series car. I wouldn't want one anyways because if anything goes wrong outside of warranty you can't take it to a normal mechanic. Also another fact is Tesla is on the verge of bankruptcy.
