This might be the best one yet. Rome was the tragic hero, pulling together Atilla and Nobunaga in a triumverate against the Mongol horde. They pushed the Mongols back, and things looked great, but his trust was his downfall when Atilla betrayed them both and ruined everything.
I was thinking right around the fall of Japan that Rome had a fair chance of winning if and only if Augustus didn't get stuck in a war with both the mongols and Attila. Against one he would have won (I think) but against both it just wasn't enough. Mongolia was great once it finally got its momentum back after Rome pushed it out of the southwestern provinces.
#AIBattle I’m amazed at the rate you’ve been making these videos while still being able to keep each one interesting and giving them their own unique spin, keep up the good work my man!
ThatOne Latvian just like in any game never trust anyone mostly in this game I had a alliance with Rome from the Med evil era to the modern era and they got ahead of me in tech and kicked my ass
Rome was ascendant for a time, but then, their Hunnic allies betrayed then when the Romans needed them the most: During the 3rd Mongol assault against the Eternal City.
Ah the irony; The Romans were holding back the Mongols but the Huns turned on Rome and help Ghengis destroy them, only for Atilla to get destroyed in return.
I wonder how Rome would have done without the great wall. That Wonder did serious work for Rome while the movement penalty was in effect. Rome would have crumbled way sooner without it.
ナナシさん more like Rome's failed offensive against the Japanese. They wasted their army and their capital was pinned. THEN the Mongols took Rome (and the Great Wall with it)
Attila ruins everything every fucking time. Their aggressiveness trait is not only other peoples downfall but their own. Him, Rome and Nobunaga were clearly holding a strong defense against the Mongol invasion, but they just had to backstab their allies. Taking Kyoto and then making Rome fight on 2 fronts. Idiots. Obviously, they were doomed from the start of this and the mongols easily swept the floor from there on out. smh.
But they had to, did they not? Rome would have captured the West and then Attila would have been destroyed. But yes maybe he made his move a little too early.
Rome's greatest strength turned out to be its greatest weakness. Because of the dense forest they were able to slow down invading units, but at the same time slowing their own. Ever hear the phrase "All roads lead to Rome?" yeah, they didn't do that.
I’m curious if one of the nations AI is programmed to act in such a way (being too cautious, friendly, reserved, etc.) that is is nearly impossible for them to win no matter how good of a start you give them compared to everyone else.
Its pretty strange, how Romes ai is concistently one of the most incompetent in the game. They were several techs ahead, so how the hell can the ai be so damn stupid that they dont even build new cities or conquor their surroundings?
Theres a thing in vox populi called supply limit which limits the amount of military units you can have. You can gain supply from population, buildings, cities, or wonders and lose supply over increasing tech or war weariness. So at most a one city Rome could I'd say at most 20 units, and I'd say that AI was doing really well, but was too preoccupied with building wonders.
how does the ai manage to produce units from puppet citys?? ive never been able to do that myself other than buying them, but here they actually produce units - unless he can buy a unit every 4 turns in every puppet lol
Honestly, Atilla has the most overpowered A.I. it always does great. And Augustus shouldn't have recalled a majority of his troops to Rome, otherwise, he could have defended Nimrud, and it would have been a choke point.
Rome almost always screws themselves over by going for tradition rather than liberty in the early game, probably because of the Glory of Rome trait. They end up without a settler and get boxed in almost every time. Glad to see that this time at least Rome managed to use a one city strat properly.
@@silvertehrandom Yeah - in Vox I believe they're replaced with 'skirmishers' and 'heavy skirmishers' - since it's more realistic for all civs to use horse archers. The Mongols were the ones to use them most effectively in history but they certainly weren't unique in having them.
вместо того что б вести свой войска на помощь по захвату последнего города японии, рим мог продолжить гнобить монгола, и нагнул бы его как раз к моменту подхода войск гунских к границе. было бы больше шансов))
Top Tip, sacrifice some exploration and just kidnap every single settler and worker with a scout or two. The AI will eventually make a warrior to get them out safely but that's usually by like Turn 50-70 so you have ample time to set up while they're effectively on turn 10 with no cities, military, or improvements

Et tu, Atilla?
@@rougehawk Most underated comment ever.
Well said.

It was very ironic how Huns saved Rome from invasion
Then betrayed it to get instant regret and be crushed by the very Mongols Rome warned them about

Top 10 anime betrayals:
The Huns backstabbing Rome
ThatOne Latvian just like in any game never trust anyone mostly in this game I had a alliance with Rome from the Med evil era to the modern era and they got ahead of me in tech and kicked my ass
I really liked how you timed the music with the fall of rome
Wow this was really good. Way better than the normal ones. I feel like there's an actual story here. I almost cried when Rome fell lol.
Music timing is as good as ever.
Rome, you tried...
I almost started to believe that Rome can do it!
I like how the music is perfectly in sync with the fall of Rome!
>already enclosed by forest
>lets build a wall
"Fuck Rome, I have a really nice corner there" Montezuma
Can we all just take a moment and commend Japan for surviving in their tiny little corner without getting crushed for 6000 years?
This should be the top comment, Ive never done a one city challenge, so seeing that was amazing
holy shit this was incredible- so much lore could be made from this game
I wonder how Rome would have done without the great wall.
That Wonder did serious work for Rome while the movement penalty was in effect.
Rome would have crumbled way sooner without it.
Honestly I don't think it did much, as 90% of their tiles were forest anyway.
Me, to the screen: "NO ROME DON'T TRUST THE HUNS!"
the huns betrayed rome to early to be fair.
For the whole video I'm waiting for Rome to take Nineveh...
The drama in this is better than most drama tv shows
Huns to the east of me, Mongols to the west! Here I am stuck in the middle with you.
To be fair, Atilla was called as "the Scourge of Rome" so I did expect them to destroy rome
It’s funny how the game pivoted at the moment the mongols took the great wall.
ナナシさん more like Rome's failed offensive against the Japanese. They wasted their army and their capital was pinned. THEN the Mongols took Rome (and the Great Wall with it)
7:03 that betrayal
and what did we learn from that? that backstabbing can backfire xD
Rome: *everybody betray me I fed up of this world.*
*YOU'RE TEARING ME APART ATTILISA*
Oh, hi Marcus Antonius
Skozerny crap. now I can't stop picturing a tommywiseau Julius Caesar saying that.
The dream that was Rome...
Follish Foolish Fallish Attila, Too dumb to attack Rome
That comeback of Mongolia was fantastic
The Aztecs built a frigate in thier capitol?
You think it was just the Aztecs? Japan had a frigate just chilling a tile north of their capitol for almost the entire game!
No. A free frigate is the reward of one of the World Congress project.
Its also worth mentioning that a ranged ship is a very worthy defense unit for a city.
Attila betrayed Rome too early and it cost them the win.
that was close, so much back and forth fighting
Agony. Despair, even.
I’m actually amazed Rome held on for so long. The Mongolian horde and the Huns were hammering away at its defences the entire game
Idiots. Rome had a most impressive network of forts.

Top anime treatment in history..
Rome was at 50 size once 😭😭😭
So sad that Rome died
Actually, I wasn't surprised. According to the history, the Hunns were something about 700 years earlier. Mongols just have more advanced horseman :D
Make a battle where the ancient greek states compete on islands.
That poor Hun ship in the corner
Rome's greatest strength turned out to be its greatest weakness. Because of the dense forest they were able to slow down invading units, but at the same time slowing their own.
Ever hear the phrase "All roads lead to Rome?" yeah, they didn't do that.
So frustrating to see Assyria didn't had a chance at taking Rome because the Huns were being annoying af the whole game.
“So was life for uncle Claudius”
... thats all nice and dandy ... but how did they get frigates in their capitals ...
probably from the world congress project
Atilla doomed us all.
Spoiler alert
Wait for it
The.....
Mongols
Max Bergmann Intense though... Looked like the Romans were about to just make it
Mongols boolin hard in the first half
I’m curious if one of the nations AI is programmed to act in such a way (being too cautious, friendly, reserved, etc.) that is is nearly impossible for them to win no matter how good of a start you give them compared to everyone else.
Arakiven Yes that is possible (like gandhi) it's pretty annoying too.
Depends on their competitive score in combination with their backstabber score. Lowest sums would be your civs
How did the Aztecs made a boat tho?
Treasure fleet project - World Congress
Its pretty strange, how Romes ai is concistently one of the most incompetent in the game. They were several techs ahead, so how the hell can the ai be so damn stupid that they dont even build new cities or conquor their surroundings?
You see, the government was couped by Enrico Dandolo and secretly renamed to the Merchant Republic of Venice, so they couldn't build new cities.
Theres a thing in vox populi called supply limit which limits the amount of military units you can have. You can gain supply from population, buildings, cities, or wonders and lose supply over increasing tech or war weariness. Falcon of Honor AFAIK Vox Populi with being in a major war will almost always incentivize Puppets and City States to make units for you.
Honestly, Atilla has the most overpowered A.I. it always does great.
And Augustus shouldn't have recalled a majority of his troops to Rome, otherwise, he could have defended Nimrud, and it would have been a choke point.
I guess the phrase "all roads leads to Rome" inspired you to make this video?
Atilla messed up by not declaring war against Ghengis or Rome when they were fighting. awesome stuff
romes mistake was stepping into atilla
Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sigh....mannnnnnn they were so close!

So, it came down to the fire nation, Rome, and the European Mongolians?(huns)
Very nice video
Why do so many civs have keshiks? Rome, the Aztecs, the Huns all have them that I noticed. Is Ghengis gifting units or is it a mod?
It's the vox populi mod. Units and combat are much more complex
@@silvertehrandom Yeah - in Vox I believe they're replaced with 'skirmishers' and 'heavy skirmishers' - since it's more realistic for all civs to use horse archers. The Mongols were the ones to use them most effectively in history but they certainly weren't unique in having them.

Love the video. Can you give me the names of the songs though?
How did rome support that massive population
SlayTheRake I think AI always cheats
SlayTheRake cuz it's Rome.
Forest tiles have +1 food I'm pretty sure and I believe theres either buildings, cultural bonuses, or tech that helps bring that number up
What, do you not have double the population of every other player/AI Civ when you play Rome?
... Is it only me?
I'd never seen a 50 pop city before lol
How did everybody get diffrent uu
How did Japan and other random civs end up with Keshiks?
Vox Populi mod.
Reminds me of that time I was Venice and got Attila and Khan as neighbors 💀

By not taking any cities and waging a long slow war you don't even get a warmonger penalty afterwards
How did Assyria get Keshiks?
What are all the mods used in this video? I don't recognize the money symbol or the unique units.
Vox populi. Its a mod pack
