  • This one starting out with me trying to get some retro/chiptune sounds out of the MicroMonsta 2. Then i though "hey, i bet some crunchy 8-bit drums would work great on the EP133.. then one thing led to another.. and suddenly there was a Jam :D
Micromonsta 2: Lead and performed bass. Bitimbral set to split, so i can play both parts on the Exquis. (On the last part i set it to stack and play both presets combined)
EP133 Drums, Sequenced Basslines + chip style arp in B section.

Thank you so much for your kind comment! The Exquis is a MPE midi controller. It's really fun for expressive playing. :)

Hey, nice beat. BTW, how do you like your Exquis? Someone told me to wait a year or so before buying it because the app is not working and you need the app for the snaps button and the loop button, etc. I was told it was very limited and can only be used as an MPE controller with limitations. What are your thoughts/impression/recommendation? Thank you for your time.

Yes, I generally agree with that assessment. You have to be ready to be an early adopter.
The app, for what its is, is good and works fine, but its PC and Mac only for now, and is more like a nifty VST host with some looper functions.
Viewing the device as a MIDI/MPE controller is probably the best way to see it as it is right now.
All that being said, the devs seem pretty responsive, even if updates do take a while. And the community right now is in a healthy space with a small amount of enthusiasts sharing their experiences and having conversations with the devs about what they want from the product going forward. The only thing giving a "sour" taste is that their marketing isn't very clear on the current state of things and the current limitations, but from my point of view this is the case for a lot of kickstarter products, sadly. I spent a few months hanging out at their discord before i decided to buy the device, just to know what i was getting into. :)

it isn't clear to me if you're using the exquis connected solely to the micromonsta 2 or if it is being routed through a computer to utilize the app. i am strongly considering exactly those 2 devices and would like to know if i still retain the mpe features without a computer. i would like to remain dawless.

The MM2 is MPE compatible so the Exquis is connected to the MM2 directly over 3.5mm trs. Midi out to midi in..
      They work great together.
Be aware that there is a waiting list for the MM2 since they are hand made by a small team.

@@elecblush this is incredible news! thank you! I've been on the waitlist since September of last year, so I'm well aware, but i appreciate the warning!
as for the exquis, I'm definitely marking that as my next purchase! but if you don't mind I'd just like to ask one last question of you: what are the major functions that i lose out on by keeping the exquis as a dawless only controller? aside from the lack of built in synths, of course.

For now the buttons on the bottom row and encoders are hard coded to specific (and weird) Midi cc# so you either need some sort of midi filter, be lucky and have something match up, or have a synth that you can set what midi cc# to receive (very rare) - I'm pretty sure the Devs have at least indicated that they will look qt this at some point later.
All the "looper functions", ability to choose patches are also of course not there, as they are a part of the app.
I'm using it for both cases. And I think the app is pretty nice as is, but it's going to be great if they keep developing it. I see myself using it in live performances a lot more if it just gets some more basic functions in. :)
I would suggest having a look at the manual and tutorial videos for the Exquis. It will give you a bit more of an idea of it's current state.
