Europe and US have sanctioned Russia but ultimately, no country can intervene in domestic affairs.
You need a JFK or Reagan-style response to Russia. Every new president we get, they pretend to want to "reset" relations with Washington DC.
Personal sanctions are effective, but the main difficulty is in how sanctions, as Navalny himself recently said, shall not only target officials, but the power base of the regime, i.e. businessmen with ties to the regime, propaganda actors with ties of the regime etc. Currently these get a get out of jail free card because they aren't considered "officials".

However, he is now able to continue to speak out against Putin because he is alive. He could advocate for the citizens of his country from almost anywhere (take Malala Yousafzai for example). When I initially heard of his poisoning I was deeply sadden; I just don't want him to meet the same fate as Jamal Khashoggi and Kim Jong Nam. May they rest in peace!

Navalny never said that it belongs to Russia. He only stated that it's a complicated problem and if you follow all the international rules it will take years to resolve. You can't just hand over people and territory to someone.
@@wserthmar8908 most Russians believe that, perhaps they have a point, historically speaking. The way Putin did it wasn’t right, highly illegal actually, but even he had his reasons some of them credible.... but that doesn’t give him the right to poison his enemies as well as innocent bystanders.

Instead, he kept him alive to ridicule the opposition, because Navalny was "first of the kind" who uploaded his findings on RUclips, people were full of doubt when they saw his videos. So if you save the status-quo people would just see an untrustworthy leader of opposition, resulting in benefit for Putin and his party. Sadly for Putin, Navalny got stronger over time and now he has gained support from the west that is already putting massive pressure on Russia.
