I actually thought it was an ad at 2:50
CoWinkKeyDinkInc whats the name of the cartoon in your avatar :D ?
CoWinkKeyDinkInc just at that moment, i came down here hoping that i wasnt the only one. THANKS INTERNET
When is it never an ad
CoWinkKeyDinkInc
lol, same. I was just about to say "You almost did it Linus! You almost made a video that's 50% ads!"
CoWinkKeyDinkInc I didn't even realize it was not an ad until I starting scrolling down and read your comment
linus says "and speaking of", and doesn't mention an ad... my perception of reality... shatters around me...
2:49 for the moment I thought he was going to do a segway to his sponsor
ikr lol
That would be one long ad!🤣
2:24 that squee always makes me chuckle.
I know that feel, bro.
***** ikr! That also implies that someone there knows the show enough to identify and use that iconic sound clip! :)
Jordi Santini wtf u gay?
Isac Degmez dude, what does being gay have to do with anything he said? i`ll tell you, *nothing*
Joe Habana *something
2:20 ahh linus. that's why we love you XD
qwertopchicken Brohoof
gheeeeeeeeeeey
Squee
Yasss
Does anyone know, what happend to episode 7 yesterday? Wasn't it aired an TV or just the internet not working anymore?
you just taught me more in 3 minutes than my cisco teacher did in 2 years...
Nathan Jones Funny thing is he didn't really explain anything of value other than the DNS server factor.
Me too
Nathan Jones Your Cisco teacher must have been quite terrible, or you simply didn't pay attention. Linus didn't even mention routing protocols or anything similar, which is something you should have learned by your Cisco teacher along with quite a lot of other things.
Sanya IV Litvyak he was awful and was only ever a willing to help the 2 girls, we only did virtualisation through a programme called packet tracer even though he had a shit ton of equipment, once he left we started using the hardware and made our own Cisco class.
Nathan Jones Have you ever considered that some things might not be other people's fault?
Internet infrastructure is definitely not as fast as possible >.>
GlenwingKyros Sure it is but it's only as fast as the slowest node in the route. Which is probably the ISP that likes to throttle the connections.
Grymyrk True in theory, wrong in practice. Speeds given are often arbitrary and artificially policed to a low rate, yes that is a real inter-networking term.
Case an point, Google Fibre moving into certain cities in the states and miraculously speeds offered by competitors are up to 6x faster for the same price OVERNIGHT.
And yes, I work in the industry, I'm not just blowing smoke.
Saelaniify I have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science majoring in Computer Networking. So there. I don't disagree with what you say but I already said it.
Grymyrk
You didn't tho, you made more of a blanket statement while while true in theory, just isn't the issue is in the real world.
Saelaniify I said some service providers like to throttle. You said some ISPs stop throttling when there is competition. How is that incompatible?
Hey Linus, I really enjoyed the video. I've been watching all your videos and gotta say, there great! this one especially just now because I've been studying CCNA and it helped answer some stuff I've been stuck with.
Keep up the great work!
I would have appreciated a mention of the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) which has a lot more to do with Internet infrastructure than ICANN does. That's where standards for IP, TCP, UDP, HTTP, SMTP and all the rest are created and maintained.
2:24 I love the little squeak noise that played for the my little pony packets. LOL
It's known as a squee.
ruclips.net/video/ZBMD6c2RDsg/видео.html
Linus I love your videos and I applaud your pride of Canada. Sadly you're slightly mistaken. You talked about ICANN running the internet but because you are not employed by the US Federal government, as I am, you may not know that ICANN is controlled by the US Dept of Commerce. This is done through ICANN's administrator NTIA, a section of this federal department. Now to be fair for over a decade their has been an international push for IANA, which controls IP addresses, to fall into international hands. The opposition for this is that many concepts that led to today's internet came from the US such as NSFnet. This is a US science foundation for advancing education to higher learning institutions. Predateing that is ARPAnet, a US military agency for federal projects. It should be no surprise that the internet has been largely controlled by the US and maybe even rightly so.
College 2nd year killed me with these packets and theory RIP protocols and other stuff which i forgot.
that shirt is giving me OCD
I know! GAAAAH!!!
tacoburger5 haha, I did not even notice it until you said so.
that is funny!
tacoburger5 Didn't you know he has an invisible second head. The only way to cope with OCD is to get creative.
i cant watch the video properly because of his shirt
tacoburger5 I'm pretty sure you don't know what OCD is.
MLP in an As Fast As Possible video, my life is now complete!!!
2:20 OMG THANKS LINUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Slim Dashie might just be the 5th of the pony fans. weird
*squee*
Woot ! Woot ! made it into a Fast as Possible video :D :D :D
best day ever !!!
givingtnt lol haha kind of jelly oddly xD
givingtnt wait, could you send me a time link? (ie. 1:00)
DoctorPC pelailut @0:05
im the second tweet
givingtnt wow... didn't notice that :D Congrats, buddy!
givingtnt Jealous...
Fast As Possible
as Fast As Possible
Love techquickies. Seriously learn so much haha
as fast as possible: how can you program a programing language (how to give life to a machine in the first place)
I loled at the fart noise and the toilet flushing when he started talking about people putting stuff on the internet
Linus finally understands ponies and their importance.
Tortilla Flipper Will do.
To Athanatos stop talking to yourself
Isac Degmez Oh no, I was talking to YOURself!
To Athanatos no no no
locoperson Elf Wow you are all the same person... how sad...
Why the fuck do people dislike it before they're even done watching the video?
Alexis Wynter Because they didn't like the subject?
Alexis Wynter miss click
Alexis Wynter have a bigger problem with people liking it before they are done watching
Trolls.
***** Giving a dislike on youtube is not trolling, you ignorant, part of the problem fuck.
When you said "Speaking of jumbled messes..." at 2:48 I thought you were going into the ad.
"(...) here, wherever it is you're watching it."
*takes a look around the bathroom
Alright Linus, you got me. I now fully subscribe to Nature's Harmonic Time Cube Principle.
Would be nice to have updated videos of these
Howdy! Long time fan! I'm sad to see you didn't cover prime time ISP bog down for the US which is a major issue still for some places or the fact traffic isn't always rerouted when everyone in an area is streaming netflix(as am example). This is a major issue for us in the US. I would like to see this information covered in the future or more insight on why the route isn't always redirected when an ISP or ISP peering partner like Level1 or tcore nodes is dropping packets or having issues.
Thank you! Keep up the great work! You guys are amazing!
great video keep it up and despite not beeing my favorite chanel i watch and watched every single video
The analogy to the sewer system is more apt than many would realise...
This is easily my fav channel on youtube.
2:24 & 2:30 Dat *squee* tho! I love the reference and the shoutout! :D
Great video, Very informative and good refresher for me.
I would love to see a follow up video about the hardware infrastructure of the internet, too.
2:43, I thought my pc was slowly dying, I peed my pants
I like how people react that that mlp joke, thinking its so innocent (and it is) but if it was made on some other, smaller channel, that video would get so much hate
Literally had my networking exam 4 days ago. Would have been amazing to watch this before that. Extremely consise
the internet is not a big truck that you just dump something on, it's a series of tubes
If we refer to the term "internet" as interconnected networks, the video applies well as an explanation. But the mention of the HTTP protocol was somewhat unnecessary and could have been replaced to define TCP / IP, Internet socket, or the differences between TCP and UDP, in a simple way of course.
Also, *squee*!!!
Waiting to see another good video
it would have been awesome if they would have covered a little the physical infrastructure of the internet as well. :D Say more about how the data actually/physically moves around the globe. Does all the internet rely on cables or do some companies provide internet using satelites?
Next Tech Quickie. Explain the OSI model. Great stuff btw. The way I see how stuff get routed/switched. ->
(Layer 1)10101010 [Binary] [ethernet protocol] ->
(Layer 2) Binary encapsulated into a frame [Switches] ->
(Layer 3) Frames encapsulated into a packet either ipv4 or ipv6 depending on the application ->
(Layer 4) the sending method is decided uses either TCP or UDP for reliability or unreliable traffic.->
[now the packet is routable by a layer 3 switch or wan router using eigrp/ospf/ripv2/or a static route]
Then the packet is sent to the ISP who uses either BGP or ISIS routing protocols over an MPLS network (hopefully).
As a network engineer we normally don't care about Layer 5,6,or 7 but some times I have to troubleshoot those >.
Why can't my mail be as efficient as the internet, they're always sending me Barrack Obama's mail.
That packeting image was part of my presentation for computer science when we researched gateways and networking :D
0:00 This example has aged very well and will probably age even better.
Could you please do more Networking TechQuickie videos!
I love it how this comment section isn't a total mess. It does say something about the majority of Linus's fans.
2:49 "speaking of ...", almost quit too early there :p
Ah, an oldy, but a goodie!
"WTF are you talking about?" lol
2:50 "Speaking of jumbled messes... Lynda.com!"
your videos are like lectures, but not boring at all and I acutally learned stuff. XD
that perfectly timed squee
Having to explain how to turn a computer on to your grand parents 0:00
2:20 I love you Linus
I think it's about time you made a ping jitter FAP.
I work at a NOC in one of the world's largest IP networks, and I can safely say that congestion is normally not "dynamically" avoided. Though there are ways to go about it of course. There are ways to avoid congestions though, mostly through network and traffic engineering.
“When you send out a tweet about a new graphics card you can’t afford”
2021: nice foreshadowing there Linus!
"it's just like, beep beep boop"
Oh Linus, you're so good with words!
What is the brand of shirt that linus is wearing?
Great video!
"HTML and CSS... programming languages"
*TRIGGERED*
Well, the internet is like a sewer,
and my computer is a toilet!
I just spit out crap through my toilet and it ends up in the sewer!
This comment is a good example!
lol. Computers like "WTF is this shit man?!"
1:01 I was just looking to understand the subject more . glad you made that pun ;p
I am from there .
Best explanation ever I saw
I only have one question what about on our phone or other hand held devices when we browse the internet we receive other forms of the site y can't phones or other handheld devices show the same exact page is it like another computer language or is it the same just formatted differently and I just wasted me time writing this comment? plz anyone u actually knows, answer me that I'm truly curious and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about computers and other things to computers
2022 here figuring it out more
I learnt something today
Thank you
YO Linus, thanks for the Ottawa shoutout!
Let's you someone was planning to move to a new city. How could the find the connection tower (or whatever it is called) to where they plan to live?
linus may i ask you make a video about the difference between air flow fan and static pressure fan please
8.8.4.4 isn't google.com ip
it's google dns backup server
Finally someone who notices
I thought this would be about the physical infrastructure-like the fiber optic cable that runs through my back yard.
Could you do a fast as possible on pci latency timing and the best settings for that in the bios for gaming
1:57 Great! The LNIK is in the description :P
linus stop using "speaking of" while ur still in the main part of the video,it tricks me into thinking that ur bout to advertise some thang :(
that's just him using the phrase "speaking of X..." correctly unlike all the other times that he usually uses it for.
Truth 2:50
goddammit, i will never be able to escape time cube
How did I already know this? Old techquikie?
Static electricity as fast as possible please
Why no mention of the OSI model? :P
can you explain the difference between the new hdd-s, green, blue, I know the basic differences of the old ones but today they all seem to be the same, samo rpm, same 6 gb/s sata 3, same cache. Google only shows me old results from 5400 rpm drives.
Back then when ltt was actually good
So I have 2 questions how would a new ISP start up and not piggyback off of a bigger company and if everything was connected wouldn't the speed of the Internet not only depend on me but on the server that's hosting the website
You didn't explain about TCP/IP or the OSI model could you do a explanation on that as well. Thanks
Interesting and learn a lil bit with the great Techquickie channel :3
I like how a search suggestion was 'linustechtips malware' lol
0:12 I actually pay attention to the mechanical processes of my toilet.... it tends to clog or not flush every now and then and I have to know about everything technological (which is why I'm here)
Loved the MLP reference.
But who's a brony at linus teck tips ?
but how does packet loss works, if 2% of your packets do not reach destination in time, they are lost and not received by the destination I.P. are then resend by the source or they are lost forever, and if a destination IP received 98% packets does it interprests the unreached 2% or waits for them ?
I swear Linus made a fullmetal alchemist brotherhood reference. Breaking down and reconstructing won't make much sense for human arms
Damn i LOLed so much, great job on this vid Linus :)
little add on note, depending on the protocol your using to send the data it may not arrive at all. there arr 3 common protocols,
TCP - packets are guaranteed to arrive and can only be accessed if the preceding packets have arrived, this is good for file transfer, no corruption, no disordering
UDP - packets are not guaranteed to arrive, BUT packets can be accessed as soon as they arrive regardless of order, this is good for things like skype and games where only the most recent information is important
HTTP - this is the protocol used by your web browser and for the most part is and extension of TCP, it has certain rules in place to communicate with webservers which aren't needed in most TCP connections outside of HTTP.
Scott Howell What about FTP?
Yemto if you'll include that in common ( I suppose it is quite common actually)
FTP is quite similar to HTTP, its built on top of TCP, its basically TCP with some username and password stuff lumped on top, not that much interesting about ti, I usually just consider it TCP.
When he was talking about Mac and PC I thought he was going right into sponsors and plugging Dropbox. It sounds like something he'd do.
In fact there's Paragon NTFS for OSX that works out for reading and writing to all types of external hard disks.. Even without it installed if I connect my hdd to my modem(setting up a SAMBA server) I can r/w to the disk using osx.
Maybe some explanations about FinFET? It will become more and more interessting in the near future^^ And big thumb up for the "Squee" :3
2:50
I thought that that was the sponsor spot :,D
sounds like the internet is the basis of teleportation?
3:27 NO!
Uhh... doesn't the "SA" in the licence of that animation mean that works that use it have to be CC-licensed? RUclips says that this is under the "Standard RUclips Licence", that's not CC right?
2:00 yay Lnik in the description.
Never saw 4k, So smoooth!
