  • Full journey from Millom to Barrow-in-Furness along part of the Cumbrian Coast Line on board a Northern class 156 Super Sprinter. This journey was filmed on the 1408 Carlisle to Barrow-in-Furness service on Monday 21st September 2020, which departed from Millom at 1607 with a 1639 arrival time at Barrow however the service arrived a few minutes early.
    Skip to:
    Millom (depart) 00:03
    Green Road (request stop) 03:49
    Foxfield 07:11
    Kirkby-in-Furness (request stop) 11:45
    Askam-in-Furness 16:37
    Barrow-in-Furness 28:44
To continue this journey further along this route to Preston see my Barrow-in-Furness to Preston journey video.
Services on this route are usually from Carlisle along the full Cumbrian Coast route round the edge of the Lake District with a limited number of services only completing part of this route, some services continue round the coastal route to Lancaster or Preston and throughout most of the day services operate hourly in each direction. All services are operated by Northern using class 156 or 158 Sprinter units.
A number of stations along this route are request stops meaning you have to let the conductor know if you want to alight and signal to the driver if you want to board. All services stop at Millom as it is one of the busier stations on the route past Barrow.
This route is double track for most of the journey between Millom and Barrow however there is a single track section between Askam and Barrow. The direct distance between Millom and Barrow is much less than rail route due to the rail route going north to Foxfield before coming back south to Barrow going around one of the larger lakes.
