"A real lesbian" , "do you know those kinds of people", "did you have a lesbian on set", " but you're not a pornstar" I cringed through the whole interview
I like how she described the film as 'it's not a lesbian film, it's a story about love.' I think this is how people, especially the interviewer, should view this film.
Yeah, not really. Most of the issues that made the movie interesting centered around the idea of homosexuality and how it is viewed in society, specifically in France. It is a love story, but it is a love story affected by the underlying issues that surround lesbianism in France. I personally felt very sorry for the character Adele because in many ways her life mimics some issues from my own life. I'm referring here to the secrecy and double life that lesbianism in a homophobic society implies, the need to fit in and to try to change your sexuality to be straight to be accepted by your community and to not be shunned by your parents, colleagues, friends etc. Her story is essentially sad as she ends up alone, without any support, regardless of how much she tries to fit in. It is a sad story, a love that doesn't really blossom. A lot of this is not discussed because of the obsession with the lesbian sex scenes, very pornographic indeed, and it is a shame since in essence the movie has a sad ending. It is not a love story with a happy ending, but a very sad rendition of how romantic life tends to evolve for most lesbians I know who live in such contexts. The shame that one inevitably feels for being homosexual does not let love flourish normally, like in the case of straight couples, no matter how deep that love is. In a normal setting, with a straight couple, they would have ended up married with kids, living happily ever after until they died ...which ironically is a boring ending for a movie.
Haha. Yes Just a few days I was with my beautiful girlfriend partying and some old guy said: nooo you two are way too beautiful to be lesbians. I said: this is a freaking chlichee.
This movie changed my life. I don't know why but while everyone is ranting and raving on how gorgeous Adele is, I just can't stop staring at this lovely womans face in interviews. I was super attracted to her as a tomboy at first when I saw the movie, which is strange because I am a femme lesbian who generally likes other femmes. But with or without makeup this is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life. I'm just so astounded, even the gap in her teeth is gorgeous. Maybe I'm feeling a little too single right now
She has a very strong power of seduction, all over the world, many people who watched the movie were completely enchanted with Emma / Lea. I'm delighted, fascinated... She is simply amazing! I had never seen her before. A person really impactful. I found a blog that has all about Blue, many informations and many messages from people passionate about Léa.It's a phenomenon! Take a look. blueisthewarmestcolormovie.wordpress.com/about/
***** i'm too...I'm obsessed with her beauty, I've seen all the interviews and have watched the movie several times ... I think I need a psychologist!! hahahaha
I don´t like when he just aks about the "being a lesbian" parts. The movie was not about that. It was about passionate love, how it changes lives and how it makes you discover not just the world, but yourself. People need to start to understand, homo/hetero/bi love, it´s that...love. I do admit, even being a straight woman, i found the film hot as hell. But i found it equally beautiful. I was shipping this couple so hard that when the movie ended i cried because they didn´t end up together. So sad. I mean, i´m still thinking Emma still loved her. :(
Sure, the film was beautiful, a story about deep, passionate and devoted love. The lesbian part was secondary the the very matter of the movie. You already spoiled the movie to some of those who haven't seen it yet, but what the heck! My interpretation of the plot is such that the fact that Emma kicked Adele out of her house in spite of the latter truly regreting and apologizing multiple times to Emma was because Emma had already had an affair with the woman she finally ended up being in a relashionship with at the end of the movie. Adele's infidelity was just an exuse for Emma to dump her. Truth be told, though, I agree with you that Emma didn't stop loving Adele, and she somewhat regretted letting her go that night and not accepting her apology.
That is a very legitimate question, because both actresses are straight, and even though they are very professional, it has to be difficult to play a lesbian role. On the other hand, i understand the LOVE factor, but shit this movie is pornographic big time. You can express love and passion in a more implicit way when it comes to a movie. This is my opinion.
The accent of the character is terrible. That's fiction, a character in a movie. The description of "terrible" has nothing to do with the accent of Lea Seydoux, the real life person.
His questions were utterly morbid, totally focused on the sex scenes rather tan other aspects of the film, which, by the way, I loved. It´s an intense and heartbreaking love story, and not a movie about lesbians. Love is orientation-less. And this guy could have done a better journalistic job, no kidding.
Yeah, stupid questions and even stupider answers. "Play the man"??! She did a good job in the movie but apparently she doesn't have the slightest idea about the whole thing. Adele too.
***** I believe the reason is exactly the fact that is in English! It must be hard for a person that doesn't speak english everyday to find the right words! I am quite confortable speaking english even without being my mother tongue but when i am nervous, for exemple, I have problems in expressing myelft!
I don't get why every journalist is asking the same question. Enough already about the sex scene. Léa's clearly getting uncomfortable but being a professional she deals with it well! C'mon ppl be a bit more groundbreaking and do an interview with depth. How about that incredible fight scene or that emotional café scene. I rly would wanna know more about those or the emotional journey they made more than the constant focus on the SEX. What's wrong with ppl...they must be so sex-deprived...
Very good point. The entire breakup scene would be fascinating to discuss, and especially the last meeting between them, in the cafe. Beautifully played, very wrenching, emotionally.
I find the gap in her teeth incredibly sexy. I hope she never has it closed like so many actors and actresses do. I'm a big believer in natural beauty because it's timeless and isn't affected by trends that come and go.
I feel like this guy has never been around a gay person before. Being femme doesn't mean you aren't a "real" lesbian. Neither does being butch or masculine looking make you "more" lesbian.
Jonmad17 I didn't do in-depth research on the interviewer and website for a video I just stumbled across one night so I didn't know that. I explained the reasons I found him off-putting above. Regardless of his sexuality, he doesn't have a great grasp on gender theory in my opinion. But I see you commented elsewhere that you enjoyed the interview, so that's good for you. I just disagree.
weatherby551 I think by 'real' he meant openly and identifiably lesbian. Adele's sexuality is left ambiguous by the end of the film. And she never comes out to her family or her coworkers, she never quite socializes with other gay women or identifies with the lesbian subculture. I don't think he meant to imply that only butch lesbians are real lesbians.
Daily Extra is a Canadian based Gay/Bi/Les/Trans Daily News Site, so this guy presumably is gay himself which is even more appalling with his ridiculous questions he asked Lea! She is so intelligent, very engaging and I really enjoyed her answers despite the awful questions!
I find it kind of ironic how Lea's character, Emma was supposedly bad at English and how Adele was good at it. In real life, she actually speaks English well! Adele is not bad at it, but Lea is definitely much better at it lol. Love both actresses though! Their performance in the film was superb!
I had the stop at his description of emma and why she's a "real lesbian" and whether Lea even knew lesbians in real life... like are we living in the 50s or something, what is that? Here she is, a real lesbian in the flesh! Oh but those aren't real are they?!
You guys all know that the French language is constructed very differently to English, in that everything, even tables and chairs have gendered names. When Lea says things like "to be a man" just remember how much can be lost in translation, because English is her second language.
She is describing the way she created her character in the film. As written, Emma is sort of butch, a very experienced and confident pursuer of this shy and inexperienced girl. Seydoux is saying that the way she achieved the right mindset to be that character was by imagining how it feels to be man in the same situation, confidently pursuing a girl. All part of the process of creating a character. Actors do it all the time.
***** What do you mean by "the sex scenes make it clear that they're straight"? I've heard that before about like lesbian porn... about it not being authentic. But I don't get it. What about it makes you tell that they're straight? I'm insanely curious!
She said she wasn't a lesbian, but she didn't afirm that she is straight. She could be even bisexual, but she doesn't know why not? And so what if she was a lesbian? Would it change something about her talent or about her personality??
what the heck are these questions, he went from asking genuine questions to wanting the juicy details about lesbian love-making. glad lea handled it with such poise
She's very graceful and elegant in the interview and I fully agree that the interviewer is cringeworthy, but I also think that referring to her character as "the man" and that she had to be "the man" in the sex scenes it's a bit binary and therefore constrictive. Although I love how open minded she is and I know she doesn't mean any harm, it would do more justice to the complexity that this movie offers to talk thorugh a more broad gender perspective/lens :-)
Very impressive woman, and talented actress. See Farewell my Queen (2012), and you will see why. Emma was not her first gay role. Practically, so far, both of her big leading roles in French cinema were gay characters. I would not be surprised to hear her coming out in a few years. After all, as she says, its just love.
***** LOLO I don't even remember that part of the movie omg I played the movie on TV and my mum was in the room so I was more or less focusing on skipping the lesbian sex LMAOO
Blue is the Warmest Colour lies beyond the reach of the politics of lesbianism and gay pride but i am disappointed to hear the actors and director constantly dismiss the truth that it is more a lesbian love story than a love story. A third of the film (1 hour) deals with a teenage girl's discovery of being turned on by women. That trauma belongs to lesbians and gays. Its a shame we go through it , but in the acknowledging spirit of this film (real heart break is forever) the realisation that one is bent as a banana is not an experience shared in any straight love story. Although I hear the marketing wisdom in repeatedly dismissing that it is a lesbian love story for the more digestible concept that it is a love story that everyone can relate to and enjoy, I just wish after making such art. they would celebrate, not glide over, the strongest contribution to the sensuality of the film: the fact that it is sexual love between two women. LBTQUI alphabet soup people are always having to distill the love from straight stories which for the most part are barely relevant to us, and so why not own the indisputable fact that this is the best lesbian love depiction every presented on film and have the grit to own it.... :)
She's really a versatile actress. I first saw her in Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, and got kind of scared of her, she played a ice princess and ice cold killer, but she's a lot warmer in the warm color blue. Suddenly blue is a hot color. At least she's hot. Even better impression I get watching interviews with her, and now I watch as many I can. She's humble and very normal, so you can get a feeling like knowing her... or at least wish you knew her. I adore and love her as an actress. Look at that smile, so charming that it cut stright into your heart.
***** He means that Emma is a "real lesbian" in the sense that, at least, early in the movie, when she has the blue hair and wears jeans and jeans jackets, she is deliberately projecting the image of a lesbian (even of a butch lesbian) and is therefore recognizable as one. Adele is not recognizable as such and hence does not fit this definition.
I like adele but i looove lea. Omg! She played the role so well. The way her eyes looked at adele my gosh! I can’t handle it. It made me fell for her & i am straight. 😁😁😁
"A very erotic scene, a very sexy scene, a very graphic scene" 🤢🤢🤢 dude stop I wish he'd gone more into the emotion and feeling and whole aura and point of the film and how Lea experienced that. Because really the entire film is about emotion.
+Naufal Ziqri at 9:06 he thinks there's going to be a part two though the film is actually just split into two parts. chapter 1 and chapter 2 (4 or 5 years later in their story)
+Naufal Ziqri it is just one storyline but there is definitely a distinct moment where the film shifts forward in time and the film changes its course.
Why are people always over emphasizing the "lesbian" element not only in this movie but in other films as well? The questions always relate to what "lesbians" do when they make love, and all kind of technicalities when it comes to sex between women. Guys!!! It is love...and when there is love and passion, trust me.... people ( regardless of the gender involved ) know what to do with each other. Thanks God Lea says it at the end of the interview...it is a film that celebrates LOVE.that's the key
Though correct, the context is this: Julie Doiron, who authored the graphic novel that the film is based on criticized the fact that no lesbians were involved with the film (at all!). Thistroubled her; the story is a lesbian love story, by a lesbian author, and though the issue of representation is a hot topic, her criticism, as a lesbian, is quite interesting ... hence all those questions from various journalists.
Love Movies Is How We Learn To Make People From This Movie It’s About Relationships. Iv Learnt About Gay & Lesbian Pride 🏳️🌈 Love In All In Different Colours. It’s Part Of There Life’s. Being Gay Is Important. Love Is Love.
Of course Lesbians would be into this movie. I however am not a lesbian, but I know quite a bit about art history and I would've been more then happy to have spoken with Lea about the fine art's. We could've gone to the Louvre or Musee d' Orsey and I could speak for many hours about artists from the Renaissance to the Romantics, from the impressionists to pop art. Adele could've come as well. They only mentioned Picasso in the bar, Lea's character being a figurative Lesbian painter should've mentioned perhaps Renoir and Klimt. Ah well missed opportunities!
I don't believe that he just said that a lesbian movie has never been done before. Yes they're aren't that many but they are some. And I'd like to see a lesbian movie with woman of color for once to bring something new to the table.
Hello there! Thanks for your love and support towards me. You have been a considered valued commenter. This is my private channel I opened to reach out to my fans randomly. You are loved!!!
I feel like as soon as they hire a square-type interviewer there's going to be rather awkward political correctness in the interviews with people of the arts. He just had to delve into her literal sexuality for clarification, as if she weren't perfectly straight there'd be even heavier speculation around her involvement/relationship with Adele. I get it, but half the off hand comments he made were just ??? so unnecessary and cringe-worthy.
He didn't ask about the torture this director did to the actresses during the filming. He's a psycho. It's appearing as time goes by and more artists are speaking up. If he keeps working justice will be done. 8:47 *... But your not a porn actress.* I have other things to do. Il do my laundry. Suddenly sheet listening to this interviewer a felt like ... 🙄🙄🙄 Were Marlon Brandon and Maria Schneider porn actors?🤔 Catherine Deneuve... La Belle De Jour As porn movies. Shades of grey
***** That's a good analogy. I felt the sex was a little much in this film, but I'm not used to French films, so that's probably why I feel that way. I loved the film though. All the praise is well placed.
Is it that the actor was uneasy about the method the director used to evoke the most out of the components that will present the best out of the character. She has admitted herself that she becomes the character. Granted that says one is a good actor but you can use the light brush of the reins and stirrup to get a horse to move or you can yank the bit, dig hard into its sides and whip its haunches to get the same effect. We the viewer enjoy being entangled with facets of the actor ( the employee ) and facets of the character they play. It's a fantasy. The tragedy in being a player in the industry is the after effect.
"A real lesbian" , "do you know those kinds of people", "did you have a lesbian on set", " but you're not a pornstar" I cringed through the whole interview

she just doesn't only speak english very well, she also is so beautiful.
+Lynette Nataly you think her English is well? It's crappy English to me :p
i really like her. genuine and beautiful.
DAMN Lea's English is really good
NANCAY WANG its ironic since in the film adele is the one who says she speaks english well and and leas' character says she is horrible at it!
***** LOLO I don't even remember that part of the movie omg
I played the movie on TV and my mum was in the room so I was more or less focusing on skipping the lesbian sex LMAOO
NANCAY WANG i remember that part..and you're so funny dear.. =) #skippingLesbianSExScene lol
+NANCAY WANG lol
"Maybe one day"....my day has been made! :p
Her english is very good. Good accent
Léa is the sweetest thing, i could hear her talking all day!
Lea and Adele are such wonderful actresses. Congrats to all the cast of Blue is the warmest colour
"maybe one day" hahahaha,I loved her!
what a queen. look at how natural she is
She's adorable! And SOO GORGEOUS OMG
Damned reporter tried to get her to come out of the closet, but she's not ready for that yet.
+Svein Grimstad You better watch your wife, she's supposed to be the only woman you should watch, love and adore!
+Deva7 Don't be mean 😂
+Deva7 Yeh she supposed to.
she's a very unconventional beauty
very model material-like
Her English is great!
"A real lesbian?" What the fuck?
agree....
he must be speaking as "a real ass."
What he meant was that she was real as opposed to a phantom lesbian :-) hahhahahah
Gah I despise bad interviewers. What does a "real lesbian" even mean?
***** He means that Emma is a "real lesbian" in the sense that, at least, early in the movie, when she has the blue hair and wears jeans and jeans jackets, she is deliberately projecting the image of a lesbian (even of a butch lesbian) and is therefore recognizable as one. Adele is not recognizable as such and hence does not fit this definition.
I like adele but i looove lea. Omg! She played the role so well. The way her eyes looked at adele my gosh! I can’t handle it. It made me fell for her & i am straight. 😁😁😁
Terrible interviewer but she answers brilliantly. Beautiful actress. :)
Lea is such a powerful actress and extremely dedicated to her craft
A real actor!!
I freaking love her
Everyone of us do
i don't think the reporter did a bad job, some of the comments below are really negative
"A very erotic scene, a very sexy scene, a very graphic scene" 🤢🤢🤢 dude stop
I wish he'd gone more into the emotion and feeling and whole aura and point of the film and how Lea experienced that. Because really the entire film is about emotion.
He comes off as being a little ignorant.
The two main ladies of this movie are just gorgeoussssssssssss.
how did he not understand that the film had two parts within it? he was actually expecting a second film...
What two parts are you talking about?
+Naufal Ziqri at 9:06 he thinks there's going to be a part two though the film is actually just split into two parts. chapter 1 and chapter 2 (4 or 5 years later in their story)
+James Emery oh, ok... Tbh i didn't know that the parts were divided, i thought it was just in one storyline straight
+Naufal Ziqri it is just one storyline but there is definitely a distinct moment where the film shifts forward in time and the film changes its course.
Beautiful interview!
"a love story, a lesbian love story, that's never happened before". ummm... it has? I can think of about 10 movies that are about gay couples.
Love watching interviews with her, she seems so unique and smart 🙂
Okay
lmao her english much much better than Adele yeah! (just opposite comparing to movie lol)
exactly what i was thinking!
her english isnt that bad, it's just her thick accent that gets in the way
so when did you film this film? gee...what a great first question. so well phrased..
Love Movies Is How We Learn
To Make People From This Movie It’s
About Relationships. Iv Learnt About
Gay & Lesbian Pride 🏳️🌈
Love In All In Different Colours.
It’s Part Of There Life’s. Being Gay
Is Important.
+Mathilde Owusu-Ansah he meant a lesbian movie with prizes I suppose, cause that's what they were talking about.
The best English interview by French actress.
Hello there! Thanks for your love and support towards me. You have been a considered valued commenter. This is my private channel I opened to reach out to my fans randomly. You are loved!!!
She's really good at speaking in English, oh my God..
She is so charming I can listen to her all day❤
just like call me by your name its a film about the complexities of young love and also wanting to explore that dynamic of same sex relationships
I'm glad I'm not the only person baffled by this interviewer. He should planned out what he wanted to say.
She’s no Catherine Deneuve, but now I know why she got the Bond role.
I think for a Brazillian is easier to understand the english talked by her than by him.
I'm a Brazilian girl too and I was able to undertand both of them in a whole context.
No contexto ok, mas se você tentar se atentar aos detalhes ele fala deveras rápido e embolado. Minha opinião sobre o inglês dos EUA. O sotaque dela que seria por muitos criticado facilita.
danylively
This interviewer is so cringey... I don't know how Lea kept her composure as he's asking all these invasive questions about the love scenes.
terrible questions but she answered gracefully, he's so stuck on the lesbian part of it it's beyond frustrating!
"Maybe one day." Awwwww...x_x
What a plot twist, in the film her character cant speak english and irl she has an amazing accent xD
Dare asking an american actress if they are gay! I wish she had put him in his place
I don't get the complaints. The guy's questions were perfectly reasonable, and in step with all the press surrounding the film
Her English has strongly improved.
He didn't ask about the torture this director did to the actresses during the filming.
He's a psycho.
It's appearing as time goes by and more artists are speaking up.
If he keeps working justice will be done.
8:47 *... But your not a porn actress.*
I have other things to do.
Il do my laundry. Suddenly sheet listening to this interviewer a felt like ...
🙄🙄🙄
Were Marlon Brandon and Maria Schneider porn actors?🤔
Catherine Deneuve... La Belle De Jour
As porn movies.
Shades of grey
This movie was OKAY but...I really feel like it was SLIGHTLY too heavy on the explicit content...only slightly...
Guys everywhere will disagree with you
***** That's a good analogy.
The tragedy in being a player in the industry is the after effect.
this is the best interview i have seen so far. The questions were great and he was respectful. No so many interviews to this movie had been. GREAT!!!
I was so mesmerized. fasted 11 minutes of my life.
Léa Seydoux ressemble vraiment à Scarlett Johansson, mais Léa est encore plus jolie que Scarlett!
