He also said he liked Mo because Mo took time to talk to him and play with him. He said he didn't like Robin because he never talked to him. In early 1988 they announced that Andy would be joining the Bee Gees as a permanent member but sadly he passed away on March 10th just five days after his 30th birthday. You are correct about it being difficult to grow up in the shadows of his brothers but Andy took so very personal. They said it would upset him if he saw one person in the audience that didn't smile instead of the hundreds or thousands that did. If he won a race in school they would say it's because of his brothers. I think he quit school at 12 or 13. He was never pressured by his family to be anything but himself. He wanted to sing and was exceptional at it.
Andy was a great talent gone way too soon. A song he wrote on his own Fool for a night was also recorded by his daughter Peta (on the Gibb Collective album, the Gibb’s children). Would be wonderful to hear them back to back (Fool for a night). ❤❤

Barbara said she even got on Robin for it, as she felt he wasn't doing enough to support Andy. She knew something wasn't right, which is why she was on a plane the next day. And of course resuming alcohol or cocaine is gonna play a key role in someone's death, who was previously diagnosed with Alcohol & Cocaine-Induced Myocarditis. Any cardiologist will tell you that. And whether others know someone has myocarditis or not doesn't matter, when the end goal is to be a support system to that person once they're clean & sober, which is how their family was in the US. And how they all were when Mo finally became sober in '92, in the US & the UK.

The Bee Gees wrote the song for him and performed Backing vocals for him on the Studio Version. The plan was for him to have a Solo career and sing part time with the Beeg Gees. He was announced as joining the Bee Gees but passed away before it could happen.

He did have symptoms that he didn't even tell the family but that appeared in his medical records. It is not unknown that he had a childhood illness. Lesley said he did, perhaps scarlet fever, not always recognised as such at an early stage. It is a result of a strep infection, occurs most frequently in children and can have consequences for the heart. Any questions?
That performance was live and every note absolute perfection. Their mother said she knew when Andy was only 4 that he had the same gift as his brothers. She would be sitting with him in the back of the auditorium during Bee Gees rehearsals and Andy knew all the songs and sang along with them in perfect pitch. At 13 he was fronting bands in clubs, even when too young to be paid. Entertaining came natural to him. He followed in his brothers footsteps and dropped out of school at only 14. They wanted him to spend 5 years in Australia perfecting his skills, but after only 2 or 3 begged to go to Miami where his brothers were. He wrote all of the songs on his first album, Flowing Rivers, except 2. Barry wrote, produced, and sang backup on those two and both became #1 hits. He was instantly the hottest, most in demand talent for every variety show or special. He was probably the most genuinely talented “teen idol” ever. He could write, play by ear, and sing anything including harmonies, and could act, including comedy skits, and hosted Solid Gold for a season. Everyone loved him. Please keep reacting to his videos. I'm a bit older than you but I also look into the past trying to find good music these days I grew up in the prime days of metal into the beginnings of grunge style music. I enjoy the music from the past because nowadays music has become too manufactured and commercialized and everything just sounds the same. Keep exploring and enjoy your journey into Great music.

Barry always said Andy was going to become part of the Bee Gees fulltime after Andy was done with his acting career. Had a few issues I believe and turned to cocaine. Remember when it all went down, not in deep detail and less now with age lol but what an era to grow up.

He died Mar 10, 1988, five days after his 30th bday, after consuming vodka over a period of a few weeks. So why did he begin drinking again? Because he was experiencing writers block in the UK while at Robin's, which was close to Island Records in London. He had already written & recorded 4 songs with Barry & Mo in Miami, so was in the UK to finish his album. Andy also told their mother AND Robin it was getting him down. But sadly it wasn't enough for Robin to step-up & help him out with writing, a time when he really needed him to. Andy died from Cocaine & Alcohol-Induced Myocarditis, so using either one again when his heart was healing from past usage, would likely cause anyone's death.

Second, a brother (who's a songwriter) doesn't accidentally turn his back on his brother, especially when he knew for over 3 months, he was coming there to work on an album. After all, the plan was for Andy & the Bee Gees to release albums together at the same time, followed by their first world tour together in '88. It's not hard to figure out, considering it's the reason why Robin left the group in '69, not to mention he didn't want Andy on stage during the Spirits tour, so of course he didn't want Andy to become a Bee Gee. Even though Mo did help on Andy's comeback album in '87, sadly he went along with Robin by agreeing for Andy to not join the Bee Gees.

He was a coke addict who wasn't nearly as talented as his brothers, particularly at songwriting. I love this song and Shadow Dancing and always will. But let's not get carried away just because he died at 30.

And whether others know someone has myocarditis or not doesn't matter, when the end goal is to be a support system to that person once they're clean & sober, which is how their family was in the US. Andy was gonna be in bee gees but he passed away just before that was to happen...he was stuck in drugs an alcoholism going through hard times but Barry his older brother helped him write songs to hopefully help him in his future..he was just ready to join his brothers in bee gees but faith was too late and he passed away at 30 years old..he was so talented gone to soon..
Prior to '87, Barry was outvoted twice by the twins for Andy to join. Andy wrote & recorded 4 new songs for his album with Barry & Mo in Miami. He was staying at Robin's in the UK while trying to finish the album. Sadly, he developed writers block & started drinking again. He died a few weeks later from alcohol-induced myocarditis.

@@kthor - Thank you for your lecture on cardiac conditions to someone who used to teach cardiology to nursing students. He did have symptoms that he didn't even tell the family but that appeared in his medical records. It is not unknown that he had a childhood illness. Lesley said he did, perhaps scarlet fever, not always recognised as such at an early stage. It is a result of a strep infection, occurs most frequently in children and can have consequences for the heart. Any questions?

That performance was live and every note absolute perfection. Their mother said she knew when Andy was only 4 that he had the same gift as his brothers. She would be sitting with him in the back of the auditorium during Bee Gees rehearsals and Andy knew all the songs and sang along with them in perfect pitch. At 13 he was fronting bands in clubs, even when too young to be paid. Entertaining came natural to him. He followed in his brothers footsteps and dropped out of school at only 14. They wanted him to spend 5 years in Australia perfecting his skills, but after only 2 or 3 begged to go to Miami where his brothers were. He wrote all of the songs on his first album, Flowing Rivers, except 2. Barry wrote, produced, and sang backup on those two and both became #1 hits. He was instantly the hottest, most in demand talent for every variety show or special. He was probably the most genuinely talented “teen idol” ever. He could write, play by ear, and sing anything including harmonies, and could act, including comedy skits, and hosted Solid Gold for a season. Everyone loved him. Please keep reacting to his videos. Barry always said Andy was going to become part of the Bee Gees fulltime after Andy was done with his acting career. Had a few issues I believe and turned to cocaine. Remember when it all went down, not in deep detail and less now with age lol but what an era to grow up.
Twice Barry was outvoted by the twins for Andy to join, and both times prior to 1987. If they had as much concern for his well-being & welfare as Barry did, he may still be here with Barry today.

He died Mar 10, 1988, five days after his 30th bday, after consuming vodka over a period of a few weeks. So why did he begin drinking again? Because he was experiencing writers block in the UK while at Robin's, which was close to Island Records in London. He had already written & recorded 4 songs with Barry & Mo in Miami, so was in the UK to finish his album. Andy also told their mother AND Robin it was getting him down. But sadly it wasn't enough for Robin to step-up & help him out with writing, a time when he really needed him to. Andy died from Cocaine & Alcohol-Induced Myocarditis, so using either one again when his heart was healing from past usage, would likely cause anyone's death.

Second, a brother (who's a songwriter) doesn't accidentally turn his back on his brother, especially when he knew for over 3 months, he was coming there to work on an album. After all, the plan was for Andy & the Bee Gees to release albums together at the same time, followed by their first world tour together in '88. It's not hard to figure out, considering it's the reason why Robin left the group in '69, not to mention he didn't want Andy on stage during the Spirits tour, so of course he didn't want Andy to become a Bee Gee. Even though Mo did help on Andy's comeback album in '87, sadly he went along with Robin by agreeing for Andy to not join the Bee Gees.

I think the pressure to achieve what his brothers did overwhelmed him and destroyed his self esteem. His brothers had each other on stage. He was out there alone. Must have been nerve wracking.

The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988.
Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically.
Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1967. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced).
From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them).
