    I own a jackery and love it as it has a passthrough feature that allows you to charge and power devices at same time I also use a regular panel with mine

    • @ljshowto
      @ljshowto  4 месяца назад +1

      The "pass through" is a great option, however, Jackery recommends using a power drain that is less than the input from a solar panel. Here is the quote from the Jackery page: "All Jackery power stations support pass-through charging. Pass-through charging is a feature which allows the power station to be used at the same time when it is recharging. However, we recommend this feature to be used only on your device(s) that drain less power than the input wattage shown on the screen of your power station, to preserve the health of your power station in the long run."
      In more layman terms, if you are getting a 30 watt input from a solar panel (i.e., the 40 watt Jackery panel in this instance), you would want to avoid plugging in a 13" macbook pro laptop drawing about 61 watts. I don't think it would destroy the unit, but I'm guessing it might reduce the amount of charge cycles? Hmmm.

    Two SolaSaga 40w Mini's can be connected in series to the Explorer 100 Plus via the Jackery Solar Series Connector according to Jackery. Have 2 x SolaSaga 40W Mini's. Ordered the Solar Series Connector. Will try it out soon and post results here.

    I don't like the fact that the solar panel connects via USB-C, such a fragile connector with a huge cable hanging off from it.

    I bought a 40W solarflex portable solar panel and I hadn't used it ten times the wiring in the hinges came disconnected. I had another brand and it did the same thing, which is why I bought a new one. The absence of a kickstand doesn't bother me at all if the wiring is right.

    I wonder if you could hook up two 40W panels connected to the Jackery 100 Plus thereby doubling the wattage to 60W as in your setting e.g. two cables from both solar panels connected to both of the Jackery 100 Plus USB-C ports.

      Interesting question- I’m wondering if it would allow two flows of input also.

      @charlesfinnley5106 Got it & yes, it works fine. 2 x 40W solar saga in series through this connector pulls in 55W ~ 65W on average.

      I saw a 30 watt ip67 solar panel on amazon for about $40 - it's made by "Wastde". The question is, how low in wattage do you go while considering how fast it can charge a power station?
      Thinking about doing a review on it....

      The panel is now available to order separately on their website. I just ordered one now on April 30th 2024. Also managed to get a 15% off coupon code from them to reduce its cost to $110 from normal $130 price.

      @@LordTimelord Thanks for the heads up. Kind of high price for a 40 watt panel, but I haven't found any other solar panel that range that's rated the very high IP68. I'm going to review a similar panel soon that's the same wattage and IP67 - still not bad for waterproof that's around 60 bucks. Thanks again for watching!

      Amazon has a really good selection. I just ordered another 40W portable panel it's a Chinese name but I feel good about it and I bought the insurance this time. I wanted the jackery but I had problems when I tried to use my mailing address at the mission I get my mail at and I've had success with the boxes of theirs that you can have delivered to so I had it sent there. "Yujeny" is the brand and I got the 40W . I think I will be fine.

    Just curious what’s the most watts the unit can take in from a solar panel ? Thank.

    • @ljshowto
      @ljshowto  3 месяца назад +2

      It shows right on the panel 100 watts max in or out. You can see at the 3:00 mark also so I would imagine that a 80 or 100 watt panel would be fine.

    Has anyone has an issue with the jackery 100 where it stops charging via solar on usb c until you have unplugged and replugged in? I would setup the unit to charge either using the jackery 100w or a third party solar panel and it happens with both. I wou
    D set it up, see it is charging at like 55W and the time estimate, leave it be to witness it continue to go, then walk away. It would estimate 3 hour charge time, so I’d c9me back in 5 hours and witnessed no increase in %, as it had stopped charging a few mins after walking away. It’s hard to read the screen in sunlight, so I started using some usb c cables that report the power flow through the cable (easier to read). I will see the correct wattage and then notice after a brief time it just drops to 0. The panels don’t have this behavior when charging a 300 or 1000.

      Even though, I didn't review the 100 Plus in this video (I did a few reviews in other videos), I have a few thoughts on the 100 plus.
      First, I found that the usb C input is sensitive to usb cords other than the supplied orange colored jackery and have to pushed very firmly to get a proper connection. Even then, I have found that I've had to do exactly what you did - pulling the cord in and out to re-establish a connection.
      I have also noticed that the Jackery generators will start to "throttle" the input as it nears full charge - as I think it's to keep the battery from overheating. At full charge, my Jackery generators will totally stop any input and show zero watts at the input display.

      @@ljshowto I’ll check out your review video on the unit. Everything you said is correct. I immediately thought the usb cable might be the issue. I happen to have the original orange jacket cable and tried that - same result. I tried the other port - same result. You are right about the charging stopping when reaching a threshold or if batteries heat up. Likewise in both cases, I was at 37% charge and unit was itself was both in shade and not hot. It was happening with both the official jackery 100w solar panel and a third party 30w panel. I was getting frustrated and my last resort was trying to plug in both panels into the unit via the two usb c ports. I was able to get it fully charged using this method. It might be either the product is defective or there is a design flaw. I can’t monitor if a cloud passing by is causing the unit to stop charging until replugged in or if there is some other fault in play. I’ll probably open a support ticket see what jackery has to say.

      @@DylanDurdle Sounds like there is something wrong with the unit. Best bet is sending it back to Jackery for a repair or exchange. It sucks that you have to go through all of that diagnostic instead of just plugging in and charging the way it's supposed to do.
