I have owned two original Orange SKX 781 Monsters. Back 13 years ago I bought my first and wore it out. Sold her on e-bay for 125. Then I bought another never worn on e-bay for 125. Gotta say I love the first Gem Orange Monster. Own maybe a total of 4 today. I have always loved the Monster Bracelet as I own one for all four of mine. What an amazing tribute from Seiko to the World of Horology. Great video and thanks for the memories.
I agree with your views about the bracelet. I originally bought my SKX781 on a rubber strap - but upgraded and would never change it back. I also own an SKA385 Yellow Kinetic Caesar with an equally stunning bracelet.
I have that exact Gen 1 Orange Monster and it is superb. It looks great, it runs great, it is the lume king, and it is never going to leave the collection. I love the easter egg of hands lined up at 1200 showing off its little rocket ship! Love it.
Thank you, Rob for educating us about Monsters! Waiting on my 3rd gen coral blue in the mail now - my first Monster. There are so many varieties at so many prices, your videos really helped me to choose.
I remember back in the day, the "ego" watch collectors scoffed at the monster, said "low-end" watches would never hold value or increase in value. The monster is a Legend!
Lost my 1st gen orange monster after 7 years of use. Had to quickly get another one straight away, it's definitely a keeper for me. Got a 3rd gen + Alpinist along the way.
Hello Rob, just saw your video on your gen 2 orange twins. I get it. I've recently found 2 orange gen 1's in super shape, love em. I also recently found and purchased a gen 2 sea monster. I am now hooked on the MONSTER. Thanks for all the info.
Cool, wearing mine. I have the 7s26a version... watching the Klein videos has me thinking that's a good route. Someone is gonna get a good deal, that one is clean.
Finally got a gen 1 orange dial monster and I am so stoked. It’s in great condition as well. Can’t wait to get it on my wrist. Will go great with my black dial gen 1!!!!
Rob I share your passion for the Seiko Monsters and Casio G-Shocks squares. Currently I'm very happy with my collection and what I'm about to add to it. I have the the 2nd generation halloween monster, the 3rd gen blue coral reef, and the 4th gen SRPD75...and surely I will get the original orange monster as a birthday present to complete my monster collection. Thanks for sharing your passion with us.
Still have mine after all these years. Remember that guy with a website that compared this with a Doxa? Fun times. Edited to add: These were all the rage on the Poor Man's Watch Forum and Seiko/Citizen Watch Forum, back when they first came out. I got the Orange model first and was so impressed with it that I thought I'd never buy a 'normal' looking watch again. Then I got the black model and it was just as cool.
Ive had my first gen BM since 2002 and its been on my wrist almost every day. Other than the black paint wearing off years ago, this watch shows almost no signs of wear. That's almost 18 years of abuse. Backpacking, mountain biking, raising a child, and numerous other activities that are not suppose to be good for an automatic. If it ever dies, I think Ive gotten my moneys worth.
An ideal work and leisure watch. I wear it for work but it manages to stop on wrist on most rest days. There's something reassuring about wearing a tank on your wrist.
I’ve had my SZSC003 for almost a year and love it (minus the cyclops). Wish I got the 2nd Gen SRP307 or SRP313 back when they were $200 new. Not willing to pay the going rate to get one now. Didn’t really think the monsters were that good looking when I first got into watches a few years ago but I almost bought a n SRP307 back in the day as my first automatic (wish I had). Now I think it’s probably my favourite Seiko Diver. Can’t wait to see the new 4th Gen. Leaked photos are taking way too long to come out.
im a proud owner of a first gen. pieced mine together all from new parts. was only 400 canadian to do that.mine has a black day date wheel as i used a 7s26 from a seiko 5. i wear it all the time
The 1st gen is the best, Have 3 now sold 5 or 6 over the last 2 years, No longer selling any Monster's. Keep up the good work. Still looking for a Rootbeer?????
Just managed to snag one of these on ebay for 335.00. Its in beautiful shape for being pre-owned. A small scuff on the clasp and that's it. Seems I got lucky. Most of the ones I looked at were really beat
I have mine! Beautiful watch, so classy and you can use it at any occasion, I can believe I just bought it in Japan for 14500¥ like 145USD at that time, and a just saw my watch for 999UsD on eBay! Crazy!!! I love my swoop Monster! Sometimes i wanted to buy like Oris, Hamilton Khaky or citizen pro master but I feel like cheating
Good Review. I have a SKX781K3 that is new and never worn/used. Has the original blue box with white slip cover, pillow, hang tag, instruction manual. Bought it new from Island Watch in 2013. Not selling but I am wondering how much it is worth. Also want to mention that it has the black rubber strap.
Nice I still kept the orange monster with number series 8D1811 with the rubber was changed to bracelet ones, but I still missed with to the black monster ones😂😂😂, both was got around 2008/09...
Just a question. What is it about the orange monster that's so popular? Just asking because I've seen a lot of orange monster videos. Mind you orange is not my color. But it does look nice.
It's very polarizing. You either love it or hate it. The most unique thing about the monster is the design itself. It's a very aggressive-looking tool watch. You don't really see any other bezels like the one on the monster. There's no insert or anything-- it's just one piece. It also has the shroud part on the top and bottom which is similar to the Tuna line but not exactly. Add in the killer Seiko lume and the simple, but super legible dial and you have yourself a Seiko monster.
It was actually called a Monster before the Gen 2 came out, so while the triangle teeth contribute to the “monster” feel, it’s not the origination of the nickname.
Does anyone out there have a 781J with a yellow chapter ring? I’ve seen about five of them.Mine is not faded at all the ring is bright yellow and the original owner was Japanese and bought it in Japan at a Seiko store. Serial number 240053.
I have a first gen monster, my gateway watch to Seiko. I want hand winding. Would it be worth swapping out the movement? Would it lose value if I swap the movement?

Love my first gen Orange Monster one piece that will always stay in the collection
Absolutely iconic. Keeper status for so many of us. (Not me though) lol
Same here. So unique. Love that deep orange dial compared to the brighter orange with the later gens. I’ve had mine since 2007.

I still have mine. Out of my collection this is the watch you wear when you go to war, it's a tank.
I have a first gen Orange Monster, love it. You can still get them NOS in Australia. They are going for $800+ AUD.
Thank you, Rob for educating us about Monsters! Waiting on my 3rd gen coral blue in the mail now - my first Monster. There are so many varieties at so many prices, your videos really helped me to choose.
My monster is an original and it runs +5s in a week. I’m astonished at how accurate it is with all the work I’ve put it through. Love this watch.
I have this model...it's absolutely beautiful...bought it for $250us,now it's worth about a $1000us
I remember back in the day, the "ego" watch collectors scoffed at the monster, said "low-end" watches would never hold value or increase in value. The monster is a Legend!
Awesome looking watches (all 3)!!👍
Thanks for sharing 👍🍻

This one was always the coolest to me

Awesome and interesting review on an awesome Seiko watch 👍🏻
Finally got a gen 1 orange dial monster and I am so stoked. It’s in great condition as well. Can’t wait to get it on my wrist. Will go great with my black dial gen 1!!!!
Pre ordered the Sbdc075 for my first monster. Can't wait until February!
I’m definitely going for an orange one, I’ve previously owned a black monster. Thanks Rob.
I’ve got a 781,almost like new it’s a great watch very solid.
Very cool watch. Thanks for the review.
Best watch ever👍💯
I've had my big orange over 20 years and still love it. I had it 10 years before I realized the hands form a rocket when all hands are at 12. Duh!

Halloween? I assume it’s a brighter orange face?

By far my favorite watch. I love my og orange monster.
Im with you on character marks Rob... on MOST of my watches. If I see a mark on my Aqua Terra I freak out 😁
Great video and topic!!!
Thank you Rob!
An ideal work and leisure watch.
I wear it for work but it manages to stop on wrist on most rest days.
There's something reassuring about wearing a tank on your wrist.
And I'm a proud owner! 👌🤗 Great vid as usual! 🖐🍻
Most that have the skx781 are committed to them at this point. That is what is so cool about them.
I love my 1st gen OM. Fancy also a black 1st gen one :)

Great review...thank you!
Probably the favourite watch in my collection. I really don’t wear it enough.
I have the second gen orange and the second gen blue limited edition love them both and wear them at least once a week
The srp455 blue? Miss that one much
im a proud owner of a first gen. pieced mine together all from new parts. was only 400 canadian to do that.mine has a black day date wheel as i used a 7s26 from a seiko 5. i wear it all the time
I love mine - have a stainless band and rubber strap - great watches
The 1st gen is the best, Have 3 now sold 5 or 6 over the last 2 years, No longer selling any Monster's.
Keep up the good work. Still looking for a Rootbeer?????
You should wear the watch and use them! Well said, subscibed !! Gr8 video.
I have one in mint condition and is my favorite watch!

I have a first gen orange monster and an skx009! Got it from a guy that used to go by the name pokemonyu on ebay!

The price on this orange monster will only appreciate!
Bought the black (SKX 779), in a Seiko outlet for $159. Should have grabbed an orange one too. Grrrr
All 3 geerations have their strengths so you could easily collect one of each.
We need to work on your gen 1 love Rob
I still like the Gen-1 Monsters the best. I can't help it.
Hi rob, how true is it that the 1st gen SKX781 comes with a Sapphire crystal and not hardlex as the next gens? thanks
2nd gen is my favorite and it’d be the one I’d go for.
I have the same model…whats the size of the strap by the way? Will it be more comfortable if I put a Nato strap on? Thanks
agree

I spotted one for sale locally for $150. Thinking of offering $100 since it’s about an hour and a half drive
Why wouldn’t some one like the triangle teeth? That’s part of why it’s called a “Monster”. I love the green markers.
wpherigo1 I agree about the teeth.
It was actually called a Monster before the Gen 2 came out, so while the triangle teeth contribute to the “monster” feel, it’s not the origination of the nickname.
Bought one today in Austin pawn shop. $220

初代のオレンジモンスターを所持しています。狂いもなく正確に時を刻んでいます。
For all I know this is the same one I sold on ebay a year ago haha
Roy bought at Seiko AD
Orange goes only good on 2 watches for me Doxa and planet Ocean. But s gen 3 monster looks sweet but prices to high still.
Hi Rob. I know that you are super partial to Seiko Monster watches. is there any special reason or reasons?
Just curious, rob. have a good weekend.
I wasn’t at first, then it just clicked. Now it’s a pure love that will last forever.
How much is it worth now in 2019?
300-500 range. Any more then that and it’s not right.
Anyone selling for $300 is gonna regret it in 5-10yrs. I see these going up in price.
I have a first gen monster, my gateway watch to Seiko. I want hand winding. Would it be worth swapping out the movement? Would it lose value if I swap the movement?
** Something to *Spend *My *Stimulus *on ???
Didn't the name "monster" originate with the triangle teeth?
Fake news
No at the time of release it was considered big. Only the second generation had shark teeth.
I thought the name come from it being an ugly watch
Lando Cruissian it’s far from ugly you heathen!
how much :)
350
Tengo uno igual, a la persona interesada, se lo podría vender
Hm
The watch is cleaner than your nails
I am saving for a manicure
@@RandomRobReviews how cute and random is that haha
