How gently he is expressing it, too many are shouting this piece at the top of their lungs turning it from an agony of love to the loudest guy in a pub contest.

Meraviglioso... Un Don Giovanni per un attimo sensibile, affranto, innamorato...
    Superbo!!!

Prodigious. The best rendition I've ever heard. This is the only time Don Giovanni's been sincere, not sincere to the girl he's singing for, but genuine to himself. The only time he dares to confess what he dreams of deeply, secretly : being loved, simply, totally, for ever by a woman who accepts him as a human being, and not to be the seducer. Maybe he's talking to the first woman, the one who never gave him the love he so badly needed: his mother?

What is so interesting about this is that Donna Elvira truly
loves him, even after seeing all his worst flaws.

@@tawnyamorse9883 Good evening my dear. Not so strange actually... Many women loves men who only give them disappointment, misfortune, betrayal ... At the beginning, Elvira is angry but always in love with DG. Going to the end of the story, her love seems to turn into an impossible mission: the redemption of DG. Alas, again, she fails. Nobody can save a man who wants to suicide... Best regards.

@@francette19380 Oh, I completely agree. What I thought was interesting was the disconnect between DG's desire in this aria and his understanding of the situation. His song, according to your interpretation (which I like), expresses a desire for the unconditional love of a woman who can accept even his flaws. Donna Elvira does; she even has maternal tendencies (though expressed mostly to Donna Anna). But Giovanni misses what he desires, even when it is right under his nose. Maybe that says something about human nature, too.

Never thought of it that way. I always assumed Don Giovanni is playing the poor victim again (frequent tactic of manipulative people).

    Deh, vieni alla finestra,
    O mio tesoro,
Deh, vieni a consolar il pianto mio.
Se neghi a me di dar qualche ristoro,
    Davanti agli occhi
    Tuoi morir vogl'io!
    Tu ch'hai la bocca dolce
    Più del miele,
    Tu che il zucchero porti
    In mezzo al core!
    Non esser, gioia mia,
    Con me crudele!
    Lasciati almen veder,
    Mio bell'amore

Now I know, its a serenade played for/with the voice. ❤

Stunning. The acting is particularly fine in this production as well. At first one sees in the Don his trademark swagger and bravado, but as the second verse goes on, one sees more and more pain in his visage, until at last there is nothing left but the agony of an empty life squandered in endless pursuit of sexual addiction. The lady never appears, and he's left alone on his knees in the darkness below. At least that's how I interpret it. Truly remarkable.

His Italian pronunciation is superb, and the diction is wonderfully articulated: the words are so clear and are easily understandable (which often in opera they are not). It is so perfect that (at least in this rendition) he does not even have a hint of the accent I would expect to hear from an English-speaking person. Truly, what a performance!

This aria should suggest what a female response might be - it is, after all, one of the loveliest tunes ever penned. And most women are unlikely to respond to being bawled at ff. So this interpretation works very well on that level, as well as on the purely musical.
