    I LOVE this style of compressor! You can easily get pulled into the weeds with too many options and turning a knob until it's "right" then matching the gain is just perfect😌

    I have the 3A and the 2A, both solid compressors! I've had the 3A for like 3-4 years now and I just got the 2A in 2022. I use them on Vocals, but still I absolutely love it.

      Glad to hear you are still happy with the 3A after a few years, it really is great tool to have in the studio. COMP 2A is another underrated piece imo. Cheers!

    I own a Comp-2A and can highly recommend it. I did the tube mods to come even closer to the original and with good tube recommendations from tube doctor I am super satisfied. Since everyone is raving ’bout the 3A I‘ll also probably buy that one too. We‘ll see… :)

      Thanks for the info and recommendation on the 2A. I would be interested to know which tubes you ended up going with and whether you also swapped the opto cell. Cheers!

      The 2A is great, definitely worth getting, since they're affordable. For kick drum, snare or especially bass, guitar I'd reach for these over a 2A. So in some ways, it can be used on more sources and worth having a pair of. Whereas with the 2A, one might be fine, since it might mostly live on vocal chain. The 3A don't cost much more than a second hand DBX 160A, at least here in Europe. But I think they are better and also more versatile.

      I didnt swap the opto cell. I like the 2a more on vocals than on bass but it is still a great bass comp. I bought some tad tubes. Went for „more bass“ and „clean“. But still the bass frequency response is a bit different (better?) on the uad la-2a plugins (which are my reference comps).

      @@joegridl They're both (LA-2A & LA-3A) quite nice guitar amp cab compressors too.

    You do us a solid by opening the gear and being scientific about stuff!

    Been using this for about almost a year now for tracking Vocals, been a huge game changer very pleased. For its price you can't go wrong :)

      Thanks for sharing, this is a great tracking compressor. COMP 3A/2A are among the best values around...as you said, you really can't go wrong with these. Cheers!

      There still are good values to be had in hardware. Glad you're enjoying them both! Cheers!

    Ah i was going to ask you when i saw that golden age project in the background ? i wonder when he will review it thanks i got one too and its awesome !Also was going to say ! i like your channel and your style take care !

    • @askdrtk
      @askdrtk  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks and I'm glad you are enjoying the channel (and that you noticed the GAP "hiding" in the background...) I think the COMP 2A and 3A are a couple of those pieces where those who have them know how good they are, but they often fly under the radar as they are perceived as too inexpensive to be good. Sometimes expensive gear really is incredible, but as we test enough gear it becomes apparent that price is not always the deciding factor... Cheers!

    I find the normal mode has a lot of noise when engaged from the bypass, so it seems better to use the mod mode instead, do you find this as well ?

      @@eancurtis9333 Thanks for confirming this ! its a lot of hiss or white noise, so why bother using it other than the mod mode !

      I find the same thing...I think this is why Bob Clearmountain invented the mod in the first place lol. I generally use the mod mode unless I have something that I want to get really grungy sounding...
