yeah me too, I finished paying off my $35K loan two months ago. it took me like 3 years, and it was the last year when I started throwing everything at it.
Right! I graduated with $15k of student loan debt & 10k of credit card debt and will have it payed end of this year. Basically taking me 2 years to complete. Meal prepping definitely helps. Paying off the cards that have the highest interest is the best move and making a huge payment to one of them at least once a month helps too.
$115K in debt.... And she only makes $70K a year. Was the Masters even worth it?! $5K in Paypal that doesn’t even gain interest. Is Paypal even insured?! She could put that in a HYSA. Wow.
I mean in the long term that's not so bad. Assuming she continues to raise her income and is easily employable then those degrees will definitely be worth. Now the people who are $100k+ in debt with $25k salaries are those who wasted their time.
Tigerkem I actually agree. Her income will rise but she’ll have to stay in public service for 10 years. She would make more money working for a bigger private company. Imagine she tries to get a loan and the loan officer has seen this video. She chose to go to college and then says she won’t pay off her loans and doesn’t care about them. SHE TOOK OUT THE LOANS!
You guys are ridiculous! She spent years studying for a degree that she is passionate about and is in a contract agreement with the government regarding her loans. She is giving the government a service by working in a qualified sector so no, she should not pay a single dime more than the $60 that she is already paying toward her student loans. Had she chosen to work for a private sector which would likely pay her a much higher salary then that would be a different story. And with the amount of savings that she has accrued, especially years after the video was made, I doubt that she would have any issues getting a loan.
I appreciate that CNBC finally had someone who is more relatable to millenials in terms of finances. For lots of folks who do not have financial support from their parents, being thousands and even hundreds of thousands of dollar in debt is a reality. Many of the people featured through this series have been people who have had their education paid for by their parents, so this is a nice change for the series. Given all the debt Leah has and living in New York, I think Leah's relationship with money is healthy and overall balanced.
@Brian you sound fun at parties.. you don't like a good cup of coffee now and then? weird.. people wouldn't own businesses if others didn't contribute.. ur comment is so odd to me lol
The 3,50 USD icecoffee definitely makes a difference. If you would drink it daily it would be about 1200 USD a year. Not saying that this girl drinks it daily, but for me that was definitely a wake up call. In my twenties I was really yolo with money and never understood where all my money went. Well... spending 200-300 a month on coffee was just very stupid but I was so oblivious because each time I was like ; ahh, its just a few dollars. Talk about some huge denial. haha
Yeah but, if I don’t do coffee if I eat garbage food if I don’t go out with friends what’s the point of life.I don’t give a fuck honestly for 1200usd that I’m going to spend anyway on something stupid like new IPhone or something that I don’t really need. Save money on bigger things not on small that gave you joy. I’m from Europe so I don’t need to worry about student loans, but honestly I think you Americans should chill out a little because giving 100 bucks, a month it’s not that big of a deal. And whay all of you put pressure on yourself to save money every single month. If I have something left I will put it on my saving account if not what ever.I mean what are you saving for anyway?
Such a cool girl! I seriously pray to find friendships with people like her. I come from a lower-class family and now that I am making 60k per year as a single woman, I have the same mindset about food choices, money and giving as her.
She also said if you have money you should share it, but has built up over 100K in debt and plans to play virtually none of it off.. she outta share that 70k to the banks who hold the loans.
Her attitude towards money is so refreshing and inspiring! Doesn’t matter how much she’s in debt or how much she’s earning at the moment, she’s already living the life she wants and she knows how to use money as a tool to live her values!
At 1:43 it mentions that she is apart of the Public Service Loan program (since she works for a public agency.) Essentially the philosophy of the Public Service Loan program is we'll forgive your loans if you work for in a public position for 10 years. The reason this incentive exists is to draw people away from the private sector who could make more money there. This isn't illegal, its an incentive (ie mostly free college tuition vs making more money + college tuition.)
EliMarx I was so puzzled by her $60/mo payments until you explained it better. I’m in the PSLF program as well and make a little more than her and my min payments are $700ish+/mo under IBR. And my loans are about half of what she owes. I was baffled.
I'm not on a public service payment program like her but I pay more than her per month with half her salary. She is living in la la land. Someone missed a zero on her paperwork.
I am also a social worker like her but I just couldn't wrap my head at her reaction about her student loans. I don't believe in the loan forgiveness program and never will. The interest alone will make her loans double and I feel like she has that much loans now because of that. I did both my undergraduate and graduate in social work and my loans were already half of what she stated. For the amount of side hustles she gets I think that she could definitely increase her monthly payments! Anyways, to each their own.
She makes 70k, she saves 1k a month and has 5k in her savings account. Something doesn't add up. Well even if I count in her roth at 240 a month it leaves $750 a month so it looks like she started saving six months ago. Beside that she has 10k in her roth, that means she's been saving in it for 3 to 4 years. Math just doesn't make sense. And BTW $3.5 ice coffee makes a difference, and this agriculture subscription also does make a great difference. Also why would you invest $115k in a degree that makes you earn just a few thousands more than if you were uneducated. Do you really need that level of education to be a social worker?
Fun fact: most of our financial literacy education comes from our parents! Studies show young adults internalize these conversations and habit sharing better than formal education. Yet parents often depend on the school system to teach their kids financial literacy. Point is talk to your kids and kids talk to your parents about money so young adults can have a healthier relationship with their finances. The second best way we learn FL, making mistakes🤷🏼♀️
Note the attitude if you have the money you should share it....What an unsurprising view from someone who has none and isn't working hard enough to pay off her share to help others. This girl is obnoxious with privilege.
I think a lot of people are missing the point. People have different values. The woman has an MSW, I imagine it's not because she wanted to be comfortable, let alone wealthy.
Guys 70k at 25 is good. At 30 years old she should be at 100k or near it. Then at 40 she should be at over 100k a year. I make 70k in RI and I'm 26 and I am also a public service worker. Sure, my loans aren't 115k but I'm sitting at 94k and I contribute 200 bucks a month for my student loans. Trust I know social workers that make over 100k a year. Dont underestimate their earning potential. However, if I were her I would definitely relocate to a cheaper area.
She is what is wrong with US student loan epidemic. You went to school and knew you got into debt, owe up to it and tackle you debt instead of hoping for forgiveness in 10 years.
So why don't you and others go and work with one of the most despised populations then? People in adult bodies yet with social and mental capacities of 12 year olds in many cases, violent criminal offenders, people with untreated diseases and sicknesses, the traumatized, mentally unstable, impoverished individuals, etc. There is a reason why the government created the PSLF program because more often than not, people do not want to work with these sorts of populations. She is in a legal contract with the government and it has been both verified and approved. Why ridicule her when she is fulfilling her end of the agreement? She is doing great with the amounts that she is saving and investing each month and especially at such a young age. This is public service at its finest and she deserves all of the benefits awarded to her.

Have you read the stats on how badly the student loan program is? The success rate is 0.5% 41,000 people applied and only 206 got it. I wouldn't bank on those odds.
This shows why Financial literacy needs to be incorporated into high school curriculum. Knowledge is power! Imagine if young kids go into college with basic knowledge on budgeting, saving, investing, debt, retirement, taxes, etc.
i agree! But starting today almost anyone can just google it! it's not like this information is being hidden so that only straight white males can access it. my mom is on point with this stuff, and my gf knows more than me.
She got her degree in NYU which has great social work programs etc. But here me out, other schools in New York not just public colleges have great social work programs as well. A few that come to mind are Hofstra and St. John’s which are also private uni but tuition is significantly as compared to NYU. Everything else in the video is spot on this just in the few instances where one should view Tuition cost for their projected outcome
I make 89,000 a year with out a college degree in Virginia. I think it's crazy to accumulate that kind of debt when all you need is to finish high school and pick a field start at the bottom and learn and work your way up in the field.
I think she can make extra money with her love of cooking by starting a RUclips cooking channel or become a food blogger. Not only would she make extra money but she would be able to get some of her food for free with sponsorships and brand gifting. I felt her view on those student loans.

And with the amount of savings that she has accrued, especially years after the video was made, I doubt that she would have any issues getting a loan.
Millennial Money is the one of the only things that makes Graham happy 😃
I appreciate that CNBC finally had someone who is more relatable to millenials in terms of finances. For lots of folks who do not have financial support from their parents, being thousands and even hundreds of thousands of dollar in debt is a reality. Many of the people featured through this series have been people who have had their education paid for by their parents, so this is a nice change for the series. Given all the debt Leah has and living in New York, I think Leah's relationship with money is healthy and overall balanced.
You already know that $3.50 coffee comment is gonna trigger Graham lol
@Brian you sound fun at parties.. you don't like a good cup of coffee now and then? weird.. people wouldn't own businesses if others didn't contribute.. ur comment is so odd to me lol

Graham Stephen is gonna have a field day with this one

keep uploading so Graham can make more videos!
Who else thinks it would be a great idea to have Graham Stephan on Millenial Money?
Then watch him critique his own money management on his show.

*sees that every one here is already waiting for him*
I love her cavalier attitude about her student loan debt
Yeah, I didn't consider that, that's BS I really hate how your health system works. And it's totally unfair.
yeah she could put that in her student loans...
I mean she looks happy and healthy. I think that is all.
Just waiting for Graham to make a video out of this!
Who is Graham
Graham Stephan does reaction videos to millenial money (he’s a millionaire and also a millenial). Search on RUclips, he’s great
@@LimitlessLovely I know who Graham Stephan is. Didn't know he did that though.
Graham!!! Time to make another video... Great stuff CNBC, keep them coming!
Graham and Borris are going to fight next friday at 8 PM. CHECK IT OUT
Cole Manceri Keep them common but also focus on a different area of the US besides New York and LA
She has such a positive spirit! Love it
Such a cool girl! I seriously pray to find friendships with people like her. I come from a lower-class family and now that I am making 60k per year as a single woman, I have the same mindset about food choices, money and giving as her.
$0 entertainment, $0 clothes, $0 holidays, $0 eating out....
Jesus Christ, the way she dismissed her loans, very concerning. And shes from NYU, imagine everyone else..
0:43 "I don't use budgeting apps, those things give me more anxiety than anything"
I cracked up at this point
“I don’t think the 3.50 coffee is gonna make a difference.” Graham Stephen is gonna love this 😂
Honestly her job seems very rewarding in terms of connecting and helping others! Though being on Rikers must take a toll on mental health :/
I didnt make that until my 30s so shes doing well.
Well she lives in New York so...
I love this series. I'm also dying that all these comments are awaiting Graham's reaction video. 😂

She's living a happy and well rounded life.
“I have about $115,000 in debt” Then cracks up laughing.
Wow that’s so funny.
I think that's nervous laughter of sorrow and feels so overwhelmed by it. The only thing to do is laugh because you know how ridiculous it is
3.50 ice coffee doesn't make a difference! Only 1,277 dollars a year she could save for debt..
She also said if you have money you should share it, but has built up over 100K in debt and plans to play virtually none of it off.. she outta share that 70k to the banks who hold the loans.
@@amylieu6084 hey, if that's what makes you happy in life then hell why not? Life is too short to save on the things you love!
She’s laughing because she knows she doesn’t have to pay it off
Crazy how 70k in NY is hard but several states you can live without worrying.

Graham Stephen :Its free real estate
This does not have as many likes as it should 😆
Graham taking his real estate expertise further than brick and mortar, smart move
GRAHAM! If you see this, what is your perspective on going to a expensive college and inexpensive college in today’s age. THANKS
Her attitude towards money is so refreshing and inspiring! Doesn’t matter how much she’s in debt or how much she’s earning at the moment, she’s already living the life she wants and she knows how to use money as a tool to live her values!
Her last 5 sentences are GOLD
Her first mistake was going into over $100k in debt for 'Social Work.'
Are they private or public loans?
@@user-td7xf3gz4l if that's public then that's wrong
Is no one going to comment on her work? Helping incarcerated men who have diseases... like that's amazing.
$60 pm on a $110k+ debt...
I’m South African but that doesn’t sound right girl 👀
I'm on PSLF and I pay $11 on a 20k loan. We are just lucky I guess.
@EliMarx no you're wrong. There is nothing wrong with her numbers dude.
It’s because she went to nyu for graduate school, that’s about 30k a semester
Graham is definitely going to lose it on the PayPal savings account omg.
She seems like such a good human.
Hahahahaha 😂😂😂😂 she said I’ll just keep giving them $10 a month 😂😂😂😂
Girl okay! Same here lol
This is beautiful........a person who knows how to manage their finances.
Except that she's 100k+ in debt and has no plans of paying it off.
Yes you need a master's degree to be a social worker
Fun fact: most of our financial literacy education comes from our parents! Studies show young adults internalize these conversations and habit sharing better than formal education. Yet parents often depend on the school system to teach their kids financial literacy. Point is talk to your kids and kids talk to your parents about money so young adults can have a healthier relationship with their finances. The second best way we learn FL,
making mistakes🤷🏼♀️
Oh my gosh how relaxed she is on her student loans! 🤩
I can’t even sleep when my credit cards pass $1,000😄😀
Me too give me heart attack of 500 debt
Note the attitude if you have the money you should share it....What an unsurprising view from someone who has none and isn't working hard enough to pay off her share to help others. This girl is obnoxious with privilege.
She’ll just give them like $10 a month

She is just so lovely- so nice to see such great people
Such a nice personality for working in a jail. I’d expect those types of jobs to be soul-sucking.
I think a lot of people are missing the point. People have different values. The woman has an MSW, I imagine it's not because she wanted to be comfortable, let alone wealthy.
I bet Graham’s filming a reaction video as we watch this haha
really liked her vibe! hope she always stays happy.
GRAHAM going is to freaking flip it out with excitement
Guys 70k at 25 is good. At 30 years old she should be at 100k or near it. Then at 40 she should be at over 100k a year. I make 70k in RI and I'm 26 and I am also a public service worker. Sure, my loans aren't 115k but I'm sitting at 94k and I contribute 200 bucks a month for my student loans. Trust I know social workers that make over 100k a year. Dont underestimate their earning potential. However, if I were her I would definitely relocate to a cheaper area.
Where’s the .20 cent coffee?! Oh nvm wrong channel
BH 2002 😂
Hahaha
she seems like a genuine good person. if only everyone had principles like her.
*More fuel for the Graham Stephan Fire!*
This is public service at its finest and she deserves all of the benefits awarded to her.
my savings account is my paypal account...okaaaaaay then
I love her quirkiness and it gave anxiety at the same time. She reminds so much of myself and I am trying to really good at financial literary.

$880 is impressive for rent anywhere let alone NYC. I live in the middle of upstate NY in the woods practically and good luck finding somewhere under $750 a month regardless of size.
It's really $1760. It's a one bedroom shared with her partner. That $880 is only her share.
Not gonna watch, need Graham’s video to go up first want to watch his reaction alongside the video
First normal, unpretentious video regarding this topic. The girl is smart, humble, and rational. My prediction: she is going to get far in life.
Have you read the stats on how badly the student loan program is? The success rate is 0.5%
41,000 people applied and only 206 got it. I wouldn't bank on those odds.
That's because those people shouldn't have applied in the first place. They didn't meet the eligibility requirements. This person should be eligible.

Like how they finally watched one of Graham’s videos and added a graph that shows the difference between her monthly earnings and expenses.😂
It's the difference between equity and equality? Am I missing something? What does that even mean??
It means giving everyone what they need instead of giving everyone the same thing
